....since when do ninjas wear bright colors when they need stealth...and while were at that what the hell is the point of wearing a mask AFTER the enemy has seen your face....and when the hell does the mask go on? And ninja didn't use katana (most of the time) they used Ninja-to's because they were assassins and needed to get away quickly, their weapons were cheap. A katana costs A LOT....who made this movie again? who funded it?
@Mar6979 "And ninja didn't use katana (most of the time) they used Ninja-to's"
there is NO evidence that the ninja-to ever existed.
"their weapons were cheap." uh no they werent...
"A katana costs A LOT" cost was never the issue, besides, katana were by no means rare... dead samurai were all over too, easy to rob a corpse, or an oaf.
if you are only going to regurgitate what is written in children's books, why bother trying to sound like your an authority.
hilarious, they make it very clear he has only one bullet in the gun... then bang, bang and bang again. Hey what? or is it his super ninja speed that let's him reload the gun so fast you can't see?
@Dropkick32X you damn right about that because i have one ninja that was hardly no ninja but use guns through out the whole movie called ninja assassin.
He did get shot and was badly injured, but thanks to a healthy diet of Steamed Crabs and relearning the way of the Ninja by his friend's Jaguar Technique, he came back better than ever and starred in two dozen more movies. :D
Favorited!!! This explains a lot about ninjas that I needed to know. Like - How do you know a guy in a ninja suit is a real ninja? His headband says so!! Finally! An Answer!
Richard did a few more while I was in Hong Kong but he pissed off Joseph Lai and he reported him for Tax evasion. Apparently they paid him about $10 000 a month to make as many movies as they could. He set up another deal on the side and that didn't go over very well.
There is a documentary about Richard on the Nanarland site where he talks about the Ninja movies towards the end. He was surprised that there were plenty of films featuring him because he was given the impression that he was just working on one film.
I put up the link to it on the Far East Films site. To find it, go to the forum and look for the 4th page of the interesting trivia topic within the Chinese cinema message board.
This is actually really funny... cause whenever I show this flick to my students I say ... Now who's the bad guy cheater here! > At least I do what I say!
As for the AAV guys I do not remember. I barely even knew the story lines and they would gives us the line just before the shoot.
I spent a lot of time with Stuart Smith and Richard. Stuart was an Auzi and was a really great guy.Richard was an American living in Italy (at the time anyway) and his claim to fame (other than these flics was he was the last cut for the 'Good the Bad and the Ugly' Apparently they liked some other American Clint somebody lol
reality is we made so many I have no idea. But probably about $500 a film > it was during the hostel days when you would take any job for cash. When everyone else was teaching English I was hanging out on sets playing cards or .., not working as I usuallygot payed double the teachers (work less pay more now that's the way to travel)
I responded with, "You know the main idea of a story."
"I KNOW WHAT A PLOT IS!" he yelled ...
"Day don care about da plot ... all day want to see is da fighting!"
So needless to say the plots in these movies were less than thin. In fact they cut us in to some Japanese film and then resold them. Apparently I was really popular in Uganda >>> At least that's what Richard laughed about.
thanks for sharing the story :) Yeah, it seems Godfrey Ho did not focus much on the plots. Do you happen to know who the "AAV Creative Unit" is? They were credited for most of the "plots" or storyline. I have so many questions for you, but its been a while i'm sure :)
Mr Temple, do you still have any of the props used in this film or other godfrey films? Such as Photo's, the golden ninja warrior figure, bandanas? I need these items of power to establish my supreme ninja power.
@granttemple Read the story(s) on Nanarland - those alone would make a fine film by itself (possibly with cameo appearances of the 'stars' themselves).
I cannot say about Uganda but I grew up in Tanzania and every local videostore had dozend of Ninja films (yes, we watched them all like zealots!) - it was almost a sport to put together the right costume color and combination with the right film with the pals.
One day while we were shooting I asked him what was the plot of the movie, I went on to say, you know if I knew the plot then I could rewrite my lines so People could actally understand them. (They were written in pigeon English) and he said, "PLOT ... What you mean Plot!"
Wow! Its Grant Temple! You have many fans man! :D We absolutely LOVE these films now (probably for all the wrong reasons). Yeah the dubbing is atrocious, haha.
Awesome this is true ninjutsu, I know all their moves. I can also make things appear in my hand, like guns, crossbows and firecrackers. My sensei just taught me to shoot laser out of my eyes. Maybe one day he will teach me to turn into a true fire-breathing dragon....
what a load of bollocks to play A-ha music as a music score for this pappy-show! I suppose Godfrey Ho is gonna play Humpty Dumpty as his next music score..!
This is some corny shit! But I cant stop watching for some reason. Also I think they bought thier gear from the local swap meet cause i got the same throwing stars as they do...anyways thanks for the entertainment!
