  • Now, I know the difference between those. Thanks!

  • HDR is the one on the left, for those of you that are confused.

  • @Leijonasisu Most graphics cards have a control panel that lets you enable AA while HDR is active. Just make sure the AA in the game options is set to off when you activate it in the graphics card control panel.

  • i want my priiize :B

  • The voice cracked me up irl xD

  • Well I got it right but I say the difference is so mundane even pointless

  • bloom = more light

    hdr = less light

    XD?? = XD??

  • Back in the day i ran Bloom and Hdr at the same time Mother board died

  • Oblivion doesn't do HDR properly does it?

  • HDR disables Anti Aliasing for some reason. Then I get jaggies.

  • I prefer the PS3 version

  • Damn i preferred the bloom one way more.

  • Epic radio voice.

  • go into a cave and use torch with bloom on, then with hdr on ^^ or look at the candles bloom/hdr and ask yourself, which one is the better ? :P (or you can test "All Natural" mod without HDR xD)

  • And now, a quick look at the flames, every thing quiet :D

But i haven't noticed that big differens

  • @MrZlicek There is not much differnce but only a little bit

  • iv been waiting for this prize to come in the mail for weeks now.

  • This is ridiculous, none of those are HDR. And the one on the left is incredibly fucking bloomy.

  • @doltBmB you either need to get you eyes tested or you're just a moronic troll. Either way ... begone! ;-)

  • hmm the fire on the right looks more correct. The light is shining from the fire outward, so the podeum it's on should be dark. With HDR the light would have to curve around to light it up. Still I think HDR is more visually pleasing. Is there a difference in performance?

  • why am i only noticing the weird voice

  • I am so glad that my no prize has arrived!!

  • HDR is simply a higher level of mids that is more equal to our eyes fast changes...its not "BETTER"...

  • @knoose I don't know why some people like to get into the technical aspects of the technologies involved. Just look with your eyes and decide for yourself which one looks better; HDR or Bloom. It's a simple enough question.

  • @knoose lol nerd

  • before finding out the answer i say bloom is on the left

  • @adriangunter00 fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • whooooaaaa i guessed rigth i won no price !!!

  • HDR loocks more realistic, but I stay with bloom.

  • my god bloom looks like medium graphics...

  • @crustylion321 you are moron, let's leave it at that.

  • @KoH4711 just to let you know, that as soon as I read your obnoxious comment, I blocked your ass then removed the comment. Thought you should know ;-)

  • It's been a couple of weeks now and I still haven't received my "no prize". Do you think there was a mix-up at the post?

  • i got the good answer :D

  • you sound a little like a microsoft voice ;D

  • @FAWEXX He is using AT&T software, not Microsoft.

  • hahahahahah

    nice intro man :)

  • Stephen Hawking did voice acting for this video...

  • @Damnthatsnotfunny Quote: opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one ;-)

  • HDR has Bloom built in dummy

  • @nintendoconnectvids pay attention to the question before making a pointless comment ... dumbass ;-)

  • @BladeRunnerLives Mean.

  • @minirobot1 only to people who are rude to begin with.

  • how do you make antialiasing and HDR on at the same time?? please help!!

  • @MrWalalaa you have to open NVIDIA control panel, if you're using ati i wouldnt know but i assume you guys have a similar program, then inn the program choose the box that says override option through the control panel not let the program decide. This way you can force AA and HDR/Bloom at the same time

  • i want my no prize !!

  • HDR and bloom really are neither comparable nor mutually exclusive. HDR doesn't even really apply to CGI. I'm not sure why you would want to have an internal representation of dynamic range greater than what can be displayed. It's only useful for photography to preserve source data for some later lossy processing like exposure correction or tonemap compression.

Bloom is a natural artifact of lenses that can be simulated for effect. It's unrelated to HDR. It's not like you choose between them.

  • @Ormaaj as far as computer games are concerned, they are comparable. At least in the way each effect is represented on screen. Simulated or not, we have 2 different choices and I am comparing them here. If you want to get into the nitty gritty of it and argue about the definitions of HDR and Bloom and whether or not they apply here, then I suggest you write a letter to the game developers.

Meanwhile, out of the two choices that are available, most people agree that HDR looks better.

  • @BladeRunnerLives That's interesting. Usually once you have an HDR the choices about what to do with it are all undesirable. You can either clip highlights and underexposed regions, or compress contrast, which you'd expect to want to avoid if you're generating the image to begin with. Instead apparently they use it to make it look like aperture is changing as you move from room to room etc.

I haven't had oblivion working for a while but I'm dealing with Wine so it'll probably take some effort.

  • @BladeRunnerLives On the left you have HDR+Bloom, on the right you have LDR+Bloom. They are independent and non-exclusive.

I don't remember if oblivion allows you to turn bloom off if you have HDR turned on, but in principle nothing prevents it.

  • @Ormaaj Protip: Oblivion has a video option for either "HDR" or "Bloom" lighting. This is a video game, not still life photography.

  • @KoH4711 The concept is the same, though bloom is an effect that's simulated by shaders so it isn't really something you worry about in photography. Bloom most likely implies HDR would be my guess, even though the option says you're picking from the two.

  • left side looks much better with this glowing effect so if left is hdr it looks better then bloom

  • hdr is the left

  • @assasins9876 thanks captain obvious

  • I strongly preferred the look of bloom....

  • I was right about them wich one was wich haha :P

  • Left is in bloom.

  • I have just done a side by side comparing between Bloom and HDR.

And it seems like Bloom is the best.

In Bloom the sword (which I compared) were better looking, in HDR the sword were more blur like.

  • Damn this game looks good even today !

  • @locmcdog Now just wait for November 11 when Skyrim comes out. It will be this times 200000000

  • @kstrehan I know man :D Great Games

  • @locmcdog Great games, indeed

  • is it just me or does the "engaged" sound like the chick from unreal tournament?

  • Thank you :)

  • Rate 5 sta... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF---

  • So what do you mean by Catalyst Control Center with Anti Aliasing??? I want to do that, I imagine there is also a way by editing the config files to but yea???

  • @arowara1 catalyst control center is the driver you download for your graphics card, there you can "overclock" graphic options such as Anti Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering. Catalyst Control Center is for ATI cards

I prefer Nvidia cards because of Physx and Ambient Occlusion in the Control panel along with AA and AF

  • What is starting to annoy me is that grey/black screen that appears when there is some alpha, fog, or whatever when using HDR. I'm using a mod to fix it, but still there is a lot happening, like when a summon get killed outside, NPCs changing area close to me, or some inside places when moving the camera.

  • only reasno i never did HDR was no AA

  • Thanks for the video man! Youre badass =D

  • and i cant use HDr it makes the whole scene black, except for me and my inverntry

  • Freakin creepy robot sound...eh

  • @rashin have u ever played crysis? those voices appear when u change the ability of ur suit (the nano suit), like maximum armor, maximum strength, maximum speed or cloak :)

  • @bezoro2008

    I did play Crysis.

But it got boring so I stopped. Plus I heard voices.

  • @rashin lol what the heck.

  • Thankyou awesome video

  • left is HDR!

  • Shame Bad Company 2 has console shit bloom....

  • i liked bloom better lol

  • HDR looks way better but I won't sacrifice AA for it. :(

  • well bloom looks static but hdr chances the contrast

  • Thanks. It was useful I was also undecided about it!

  • what beautiful music and scenery :)

  • Haha love the video man, i was just googling to see which one to pick after just installing the game and i stumbled upon this gem :)

  • @IntoTheFace HDR or Bloom? What a conundrum. Well not anymore lol. When I searched for the exact same thing a few years ago, I couldn't find anything definitive. Which is exactly why I made this video ;-)

  • @BladeRunnerLives jesus that voice is stuck in my head even when i read your comments

  • Well , There's a Problem with 8000 - 9000 nVIDIA Card's - They Have a Problem With HDR lighting ( Black screen in some areas in interior's and Completely White hands when in jail sell's) I used to have a 8600GT 1GB and now i have a 9500GT - Both have the Problem ^

  • I OC'ed my pc from 2.21ghz to 3.01ghz and its fine and perfect

  • Thanks! Really helped me to choose!

  • excuse me I did not receive my prize in the mail it has been over 3 weeks please message me

  • No it isnt a matter of opinion... HDR is better

  • the left is bloom

  • @jagger1865 no its not stupid 0:54

  • @misthafly ok asshole a simple no WOULD HAVE DONE BE JUST FINE ASSHOLE.

  • @jagger1865 lol don't get a temper trauma cuz when that happens people like you shit their pants

  • the one on the left has better sky and trees but the one on the right has better land and sea

  • Left is HDR I think...

  • How come when I want the game to be HDRmy screen looks blue when I'm playing??

  • as the name says HDR (high dynamic range) is dinamyc so you can notica better when getting outside from a room or in a from a place with less light to a place with more illumination. bloom is just a really basic simple filter

  • @8Maik That's nonsense. Dynamic range is the ratio between the largest expressible value and the smallest non-zero value. FYI the right-side picture is refered to as LDR(low dynamic range).

The dynamic in HDR/LDR does not refer to properly designed tone mapping of the HDR images to the display, which is only capable of displaying LDR values.

  • u...talk.-..like....this...

  • @Renax111

    its

    software

  • @Renax111 It's not an actual person talking.

  • tbh they both look the same.

  • actually if there is no algorithm for correcting exposure in real time in game it is quite hard to distinguish the difference... because all monitors aren't HDR so the HDRI should be tone mapped in order to be viewed properly

  • @Sunamer1 I think modern monitors (less than 6 years old) should be able to handle HDR. If someone is using ancient equipment, then it might become an issue.

  • @BladeRunnerLives the best monitors probably could withstand but only the part of lightness range but the 8bit (or even 10-12bit) interface between PC and a monitor makes it impossible to bear such a big range of brightness without an imagery being jeopardized with visible steps in color gradations. there is no MASS production od HDR monitors... :)

  • @Sunamer1 yet I can still tell the difference on my monitor. And from the comments, so can most people. So long as a difference can be seen, the monitor is doing it's job. From what I can see on my monitor, compared to bloom, HDR is truly stunning and definitely better.

  • @BladeRunnerLives actually what u c on ur monitor is tonemapped imagery but not HDRI itself...different tone mapping algorithms look different with the same HDR image. So I don't know what do u mean saying that a monitor does the job %)

  • @Sunamer1 you seem to be fixated on the technical apects of how a monitor displays HDR. That is not what this video is about. It's about how your HDR capable graphics card shows an HDR image and a Bloom image and which looks better. Most people agree, that an HDR image looks better.

I understand the point you're trying to make and I'm not disagreeing with you on the technical aspects.

  • @BladeRunnerLives yeah :) I stand here for technical aspect, because artistic aspect is missed here...this vid not a masterpiece but only technical demonstration that is why i discuss tech. aspects instead of something else.

i'm only worry many people seem to think that HDRI is what they can see on the output of their graphic cards or monitors. I just try to debunk this myth )

indeed good done bloom is better then bad tonemapped hdri, but I'm for HDR because this is the future of video games))

  • Actually , I know How To change AA And HDR with Nvidia cards WITH NO special Software , Just with the Nvidia Control Panel , Its Quite Easy Actually ! i Use it all the time ( I use a 8600GT)

  • @xXAwsomeManXx well that was what I meant. The nvidia control panel utility. For ATI it's Catalyst Control Center (CCC).

  • You could use ENBseries to enhance quality of Oblivion even more... at cost of abnormal resources.

  • That HDR looks soo out of place....Bloom anyday

  • Well, HDR looks better in the majority of cases, especially in exteriors. But have you ever been to Phintias shop "First Edition" and saw his face blazing like the sun because there's a candle beside him? That's why I prefer bloom.

  • -I THINK THA T IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU CAN USE LOWER RESOLUTIONS THAN 1080P, BECAUSE YOU WILL GET JERKY GAMEPLAY IF YOU USE 1080P..

-yOU WILL GET IT EQUALLY ON THE DISPLAYS IF YOU PLAY 1080I .

I THINK THERE IS NO NEED TO GO ABOVE THT EVER!

  • Wait... isn't bloom an HDR effect?

  • HDR is awesome :D

  • Is it me that I found this vid funny? lol. That narrator sound like my answering machine..."please leave your message after the beep..............*beep*"

  • "A quick look at some flames."

    Nice movie dude^¨

  • HDR with the grass in my game really kills my PC for some reason, so I kinda had to choose between HDR and no grass or bloom with grass.

  • Oh, and do you have any recommendations with what settings I should play oblivion based on my system? I have no Idea what is the optimum. I have a memory of 4gig and a quad core processor, but I don't know if that matters since Oblivion uses only one core wasn't it? (I heard something like that)

  • yeah okay, HDR is better. But it has a very negative effect on performance doesn't it?

I am using a GeForce GTX 260 btw. Does it have any effect on that? And why does HDR disable anti aliasing?

  • left is bloom and the right is HDR

  • HDR wins no doubt!

  • Yeh, at the cost of like 30 FPS xD

  • @Dan4157 HDR did not cause a drop in frame rate on my setup.

  • Oh nice, some benchmarks showed that it did on many setups. Maybe newer cards aren't effected.

  • @BladeRunnerLives my laptop wont display the world when i turn on hdr everything is just black :/

  • the one on the left WHERES MAH PRIZE :D

  • I said 'no prize'. Your no prize is in the mail lol.

  • YAAAAY

  • Omg I know I'M soo stupid but my question is. THe hdr the computer photoghraphy, right?

But is it a driver for the bought video card or it's just a simple driver(program) what able to every body?

  • @ellipszia I just noticed your question now lol. Whether you can get HDR or not depends on your graphics card. It is not a driver issue.

  • @requywolf My no prize just came in the mail!

  • wow i always thought you're logo is a guy holding a gun with silencer...

now it seems different... what is it exactly?

  • It is a gun, with the words 'Blade Runner' coming out of it like bullets.

  • Hdr>Bloom.

anyways do you have a mage character I have big troubles creating and surviving as one..

  • Yes, mage and stealth. If you complete the mages guild missions quickly, you can create powerful spells to kil enemies and heal yourself. You can see evidence of that in the one touch kill spell I used in the first video.

  • It's nice to be able to see these two side-by-side.

Obviously, the one on the left is HDR. It looks amazing!

  • oops, I commented that before the end of the video. Heh, I didn't realize you were going to reveal it ;)

  • Left has to be on Hdr, looks amazing.

  • The one on the left.

  • great
