Wow, thank YOU David Geffen, for making them take out the sound. I PAID for this album. I just want to SEE it, too. It's not like I can flip the tv to MTV and see this. So how am I expected to watch it? David Geffen is greedy. :(
Never mind, you can find the video (with sound) on Aimee Mann's official Yahoo! Music page. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate the efforts of mannfann. :-)
Vendictiveness runs rampant in the corporate world.. Aimee didn't like getting ripped off by Imago so she said FU.. now they are saying FU.. and YT is due an FU.. YT, no one is profiting from this unless you allow it.. so stick up for 1st Amendment rights, remove adds from content copyrighted, and let people post!
A friend uploaded audio from the "Whatever" album (one of Aimee's BEST efforts) for a couple of songss. The label had YT pull all of them down. BASTARDS!!
thanks a lot Universal, or whatever tards own Geffen or Imago stuff these days. You tube is great FREE advertising for artists, you are SELLING music by allowing these videos. If you can't hear the damn thing how is a new fan suppossed to fall in love with it (and this is one of her most beautiful songs) and become interested in her. And people wonder why music listeners are finished w/ these archaic ass clowns. Might as well put that Hollywood Capitol building up for sale before it forecloses.
What they have done is successfull cutting of their own throat. Where the am I gonna watch these old records? Are there any official DVDs? I fuckin' LOVE Aimee since I saw Magnolia, and the first thing I did after that is YouTube search for her videos. Many thanks to all of the uploaders. Copyshit dumbheads don't even care about amount of free high-quality fan-to-fan promotion, their only need is 2 cents as fast as possible.
Best CD? All of them, at different times. I think if you buy every album you'll have some immediate favs and others will just grow on you for one reason or another. Lost in space is one album that has some great music and great meanings as well.
aimee u r great and I love listen ur music...wish to see u live one day. thanx for helping me go through some tough moments in my life...wish u best :)
Whatever is one of my fave all time albums. Her voice is so beautiful. It reminds me, in places, of the late great Karen Carpenter, especially this track. She paved the way for so many current female singer/songwriters. Love you Aimee xxx
I used to think that people that fell in love with an artist for their talent were ludicrous. Gods Aimee, til I listened to you...you gift and the beauty that comes from your soul, through your voice is simply beyond words...
Yeah! I totally get the bizarre sadness/happiness thing too! Everyone I know says that Aimee's songs are depressing, which they are in a way, but they also have this strange, lingering brightness to them. Maybe it's because they're just so damn good.
You really think so? I have Dog Man Star, and I think it's good, but not great. Perhaps I should listen to it some more, I would probably rate any Dead Can Dance album as the best of the 90's...
Cool, I rushed my comment from before, so after a good long think my 5 favourite albums I have come across are:
The Clash-London Calling
Jeff Buckley-Grace
The Cure-Disintergration
Manic Street Preachers-The Holy Bible
Beck-Sea Change
I haven't heard aimee mann properly yet, but this whatever album seems to get some major praise. I hope this album is worth the hype, from the sound of this song I would also recommend to fans the beck album mentioned above. Its heartwrenching...
My favorite album by Aimee Mann is Bachelor No.2 if that means anything. I also love those albums you mentioned and listened to Beck's Sea Change everyday for months after I got it. When I first heard it I didn't care for it because I didn't get it. Now it's one of my all time favorites. One of his best also because of the great songwriting. Cheers mate!
dougd1015--You really hit the nail on the head. So many of today's so called stars cannot hold a candle to Aimee Mann. Same goes for the male "hat acts" in country music who in no way can compare to the true country talents of yesteryear. Long live great, quality musicians such as Aimee Mann!
In a world of money media creations like Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson it is nice that we have somone like Aimee who has real talent and who wasn't created by a record company.
I'm an old Byrds fan who bought their first album in 1965. I bought the "Whatever" album when it was released because Roger McGuinn was on it. Was I ever tremendously surprised with the treasure trove of quality music on this! I had never heard of her at the time but realized immediately that Aimee Mann is a rare talent. What a voice! She is an excellent songwriter as well. Enjoyed Roger's 12-string electric guitar work on this gem of an album.
Only ever time I heard this song was the Live at St. Anne's version. Didn't even know there was a studio cut. Been a fan since Til Tuesday! ***** stars
i luckily stumbled across Whatever years ago and was blown away by her songwriting talent ("Fourth of July" was always a favorite). i've happily followed her brilliant music ever since...
Aimme, I love your work. Thank you. I remember back in the day when Whatever was released in 1993. I called the Image Recording Company. I talked to a real person asking about possible tour dates. Oh, the good old days. A great record. In my opinion one of your best. Peace and Love. G.
What a great song! when Aimee was a member of Squeeze in '95, Paul Carrack sang part of this song at the Beacon theater in NYC. Even Aimee agreed that his performance of it blew her away.
Wow, thank YOU David Geffen, for making them take out the sound. I PAID for this album. I just want to SEE it, too. It's not like I can flip the tv to MTV and see this. So how am I expected to watch it? David Geffen is greedy. :(

aimee has always been a slut 4 money. It's that old junkie itch that takes over. She would be breaking in your house if she wasn't selling music.

Genius. Was there a better album released in the 90s than Aimee's Whatever? Very few, if any.
She has a grasp for melody and phrasing that is pretty much unequalled among modern songwriters. And her voice just seems to flow over you.....

Suede - 'Dog Man Star'

I liked Dog Man Star and was always a Suede fan but I wouldn't rank it up there with the very best of the decade.
For the record, in no particular order, here's my 90s top five:
Radiohead: The Bends. REM: Automatic for the People. Aimee Mann: Whatever. Manic Street Preachers: Everything Must Go. Blur: Modern Life is Rubbish.
