Lost in Space was the best low budget sci-fi next to Star Trek (tos). Just goes to show that big budgets and special effects aren't everything. Just a thought: can you imagine today's family trying to survive in space like the Robinsons....they wouldn't make it past Jupiter ;^)
I never missed this show...and now I'm 62 years old and still enjoy watching it. I wish Mark had had a bigger role in the show. I didn't like that in the later episodes Dr. Smith got so much attention and his character became so goofy. In the early episodes Dr. Smith is very dark and evil.
I wonder if Mark got to or even wanted to keep any of the props from the show, it's almost 50 years since the launch he still looks great even in 2011
A giant sized Jupiter 2 in a mall area, as a restaraunt-bar, with the virtual vibration seats for public flight simulations, and virtual space flight screens and wait staff in space suits (and robot B 9) for the kiddies and fans would become a permanent fixture in major cities. Tie it to a network of users nationwide, who can see and hear each other across the depths of cyber space. I'd eat there regularly.
Actually, the video was made by Bill Hedges....he was at wonderfest a few years ago with MArkGoddard and Bob May as guests...Bill asked Mark if he could shoot some fottage of him doing various things, and Mark agreed. Bill then edited the video with the scenes. Mark was very happy to oblige. He is a gratious person and loves his fans.

Amazing Major West still looks the same. Anyone know why he dropped out of show biz ? He was always one of my fav. Funny thing 40 somthing yrs later at 3:17 he tells Judy to stap in the children. lol.
The SciFi channel needs something new. They got rid of SG1 and SGA,there best shows the dumbasses. Now they got wrestling WTF ? Heres a better idea for you. The Robinsons - Lost In Space. Check out the pilot.
Gosh that was some computer on that ship, all those white flashing lights. What did they mean when they flashed?.Could be if they all flash at the same time its coz the computer is loading in windows 95,or it could be a commodore 64 hooked up for the lights to flash when playing jet set willy. I used to love this show when i was a kid, but i always wonderd why the jupiter 2 always went behind a big hill when it crashed and you see a little cloud of smoke come up. HI-DE-HI robinson family.
AWESOME! I loved it so much that I was able to have my friend Kenny a professional computer/internet GEEK download it to a CD disc. I have EVERY LOST IN SPACE episode except the encounter with the alien IDAK. I have just not been able to capture it. I do have the IDAK remix which I just picked up yeaterday. The fact that you were able to have Mark Goddard in was even more AWESOME.
Hulk was suplanted by the far superior The Incredible Hulk movie only a few years later. Why not let wiser heads lead the charge for a re-worked movie? Also, let the original stars again make cameos(I'd like to say here that the choice of stars for the movie were just great! The family dynamics were good, too. Conflict is good for movie adaptions as this allows for a 'happy ending' resolution). I was geeking out when Mark Goddard played 'Don West's ' superior officer. MORE
To the Hollywood producers who decide what films get made -- Get off yr fat butts and make a Proper version of Lost in Space, with the original Jupiter 2 and Family ( relize new cast will be needed--but you can make them look more like the original cast members than they did in that efed up LIS 1998 movie.. At least have a red headed Maureen -- geez...) and let the poor Robinsons finally find Earth(or Alpha Centauri)--Their still Lost in Space you know!!!
So right!!!! That Lost in space movie insulted my intelligence. I met Jonathon Harris, a few years ago, when he was alive and he said that they asked him to play in that movie and he told them he wouldn't play in that piece of junk!! He said this with a lot of enthusiasm.
Actually, the official verdict from his own interview said that he wanted to play Smith, since he created the character, and they refused, so he refused a cameo invitation.
The Jupiter 2 became lost because Dr Smith installed Windows Vista service pack 2 onto the crafts computer system. Evil, Evil Dr Smith..... E V I L !!!!!!!!!!
Can we get some updated news on how each of them is now in 2008, except by Guy Williams and J. Harris that we know passed away. I hope all the other ones are ok , cause I love them so much.
Hey man....I think the production value of this shoot.....is actually better than the actual show LOL!!!!! Please tell me that you find someone in future episodes to play Dr Smith!!! Ya just cant have this show without a Dr. Smith!!! He was the best part of the whole thing......well him and the Robot.
Well, I was thinking of asking Billy West, but all he wants to do is play Dr. Smith as a closet pedophile. Definately NOT the material I am looking for.
There was an episide where they located earth and they were going to head back home but Dr. Smith did something to foul that up and they ended up changing course and remained lost in space.
I really enjoyed watching this video. The special effects were fantastic. I am currently building a scratch-built model of the Jupiter 2. I uploaded a video of the upper deck. I am still working on the exterior.
He was my favorite on the show. I think I may be the youngest Lost in Space fan, I'm only 14! I hate the remake, its so trashy compared to the original cast
I think there was considerable merit to be found in both versions.
I enjoyed Gary Oldman's version sf Smith as well, for different reasons than I like Harris. In fact Oldman DID work in nuances of Harris' version as well.
my parents said "lost in space" was bad for me, & made me stay in the kitchen when it was shown on TV, but i REALLY did dig away at the wall under the kitchen table, to see it, i made a fairly good hole until it was discovered 1 day, i got a good beating with the usual wooden coathanger for doing that...haha rock on LiS !!!!
You know, this is what I wish Internet video posting was all about. This was a very creative project, an obvious labor of love executed with a good deal of raw talent. The integration of little more than fanzine-class video, a cool flight simulator plug-in, and the way you utilized effective stock music knocks this out of the park. Thanks for making it and thanks for sharing.
Actually, he did do the "J-2 rock and roll" for this video. At the time, Bill did not know just what he would use that footage for. Bill asked Mark if he could shoot it, and Mark said "sure". He also gave written permission to use his name and likeness on our newest J-2. Very gracious man for his many fans....
Great job. I do indeed "get" what you did. Mr. Goddard, I take it, was talking about the show, the props, pointing things out, etc., and you took that and mixed it in with your own graphics and took soundclips of him from the show to make his fanfest appearance into a miniture "episode". Clever. And you did well considering he wasn't "acting" for your clip, you just made it fit.
This great! It was really great of Mark Goddard to do this. He needed to swagger a bit more and lean on his hip like he did in the show. And who is the guy who rags on the video, doesn't recognize Don and APPARENTLY doesn't even like Lost in Space. You have to feel sorry for people who waste their time searching for things to criticize. It does not compute! It does not compute!
That Don IS Mark Goddard. If you view the "making of" episode, you will note the footage we used is from an appearance he made in 2005 at wonderfest. We used footage we had, and made up new stuff. Thanks for your comments!
That "Don" actor is a real wet blanket, slug - pug. His "sport jacket costume" was very high-tech, though. It's too bad you couldn't have gotten the "real Don"... The "real Don" would have broken out the lasers. Also, that "robot voice" is amazingly unlike the original, (except for when you used the original recordings). All-in-All, however, your show is much better than the original show.
your the next Lucas! Your a genius! This is really really incredible . I couldn't stop watching it. When will the whole story be complete hurry i can't wait!!!

In the movies defense I will have to say it kept the premise and spirit of the original far better than any remake since.
Especially Battlestar Galactica which may as well have been named something different.
