If that netting ( those nets around the deck ) wouldn't be there, these mistakes couldn't happen. The wheel got cought underneath the net, which is invisable to a pilot from above, then he tried to increase power 2 retry the landing, but the wheel dragged them down.
If the deck is even, 90 degree angle, the pilot can retry if he comes in 30 cm to low. now there is no retry. Not the pilots fault. But the combination of the nets and landing 30cm to low, cause of net & heave load.

Its very confusing, you can't tell which way is up, and you may very well have been knocked out by the initial shock of hiting the water. As well as this, when the rotors hit the water, they break and can impale the helicopter, which could also kill people. There is never a "non-violent" helicopter crash into water.

It is a CH-46 Sea Knight...I don't know which model. Either the crewchief or a gunner jumping and he was probably trying not to fall when the helo shifted. The worst place to be when a helo crashes like this is outside, because as the blades shatter thousands of pieces of metal are flying around. Whether they lived or not would depend on: if they survided the impact, weren't killed by pieces of broken rotor, or drowned. The wheel hooking on the safety net is what caused this.
@imsurfdan That 46 was loaded with not only the Navy crew members but a full load of recon Marines. I've seen the interview of one of the surviors. Most of them died. They survived the impact, but couldn't get out fast enough. As you can see, it sank quickly. The survior has lasting effects on his throat/lungs from all the JP-8 and hydraulic fluid he ended up injesting. A helo dunker trainer is NOT fun at all, I can only imagine what they went through...

@001720BC Have you ever been in a helicopter that has been submerged, or anything like that? Its very confusing, you can't tell which way is up, and you may very well have been knocked out by the initial shock of hiting the water. As well as this, when the rotors hit the water, they break and can impale the helicopter, which could also kill people. There is never a "non-violent" helicopter crash into water.

It is a CH-46 Sea Knight...I don't know which model. Either the crewchief or a gunner jumping and he was probably trying not to fall when the helo shifted. The worst place to be when a helo crashes like this is outside, because as the blades shatter thousands of pieces of metal are flying around. Whether they lived or not would depend on: if they survided the impact, weren't killed by pieces of broken rotor, or drowned. The wheel hooking on the safety net is what caused this.

@imsurfdan That 46 was loaded with not only the Navy crew members but a full load of recon Marines. I've seen the interview of one of the surviors. Most of them died. They survived the impact, but couldn't get out fast enough. As you can see, it sank quickly. The survior has lasting effects on his throat/lungs from all the JP-8 and hydraulic fluid he ended up injesting. A helo dunker trainer is NOT fun at all, I can only imagine what they went through...

@corneliogreermedia you are correct. The lever by your side is the collective (altitude). The cyclic controls pitch and roll. The pedals control direction.

this is actually really fucking hard. to fly a helicopter takes tons of coordination and skill. im no pilot but someone once told me. i think you control the elevation (up down) with the lever by your side, use the stick to go foward and back and use 2 foot petals to swing left or right. now try doing all that with a big ass thing like that in the ocean with probly strong winds and a platform not much bigger than the chopper itself. i hope there ok. any chopper pilots correct me if im wrong.

@DisableThis1Bitch There were a few casualties with this crash. Luckily those boats were tagging along behind the ship. I can't remember the exact number, but a few died in the crash, but with the fast boats, a lot of people were able to be saved.
