honestly, 80's music kind of sucked (not this obviously) but between the hair bands and overkill on style and electronic shit and 'look at me i'm soloing for ten minutes on guitar' I am not a fan of 80's music. Strangely though a lot of the music I lsiten to has 80's influences, generally from the great 80's bands though like the cure, the smiths, pixies, REM, duran duran, rush, talking heads, etc.
@ChadBennett33 yes, the pixies were excellent but hardly anyone knew about them in '88. same goes for many European bands like the smiths and the cure who rarely broke American charts. rem and talking heads didn't get much airplay either (outside of college radio) until the mid to late 80s. my beef with 80s pop music is that many of the most sterile and over produced one hit wonders were pushed on teens while most the more enduring and influential bands were glossed over.
Excellent point, but this has gone on for a hundred years, beginning with the Blues, through Miles Davis, lesser rock 'n roll acts, true punk, and now world music.

Everything builds upon itself.

Yea there is actually some REALLY good bands out right now that truly capture the magic of the 80's synth pop scene. Check out TESLA BOY, SALLY SHAPIRO, THE FILTHY DUKES, THE OUTRUNNERS, MIAMI HORROR (All of these guys are really creating a buzz with their "NEW" sound)
