Timber 901 that's what I first thought I'm from Cali too. But i think its called a jade cricket, it might be a potato bug, most likely is, I think jade crickets have long legs.
Jerusalum Crickets, looks like tho a crossbreed between a bee and a cricket tho. weird looking thing. but nature can be beautiful and well as scary. i love discovering new animals.
20 yrs ago in calif my house was INFESTED with this ugly things..they make a clicking sound and look evil..i had more then one nightmare of them let me tell u!!!
i call it a sand cricket But the real name is a sand scoripin diffent spesy but that is the one the is in glendive i have caught on the have a small nerotoxin that kill blood cell not harmful causes slight sweeling if deep bite
@jeffreychang13 no its not a mole cricket. ive caught mole crickets. but it is a cricket. this species can withstand freezing temperatures and can freeze and unthaw later.
They call it Potato Bug, Baby Face, and many other names; but it is in fact a type of cricket called the Jerusalem Cricket. It eats mulch and decaying matter in the forest and dig very well that's why they're so robust and big.
@viperd419 Called a Cricket Mole by the locals while living in the State of Georga and used to find them myself as a child in California years ago. The folks in Georgia claim that that they bite into regular PVC water pipes under ground systems looking for water. My own parents claimed much damage on them and when fixing the pipes they would only be bitten again in another spot. They changed out the PVC pipe for black pipe instead of the white pipe and the problem stopped as the plumbler said.

it's a scorpion-spider kind of Arachnid. it counts as a kind of spider, even if it has many insect-features. So it's not an ant or a be, and yes it may be poisonous but not to man, only for its preys.
most of you fools are also idiots. it could very well be a jeru. crick. as well as mole crick.
here in Southern California. there known as potatoe bugs. they start there ugly journey as potatoe worms, big,fat,pus-white, worms with little red; Mechanical-like faces.
It looks just like a mole cricket to me, if so it is not poisonous but it makes me uncomfortable when they try to burrow between your fingers, theyre quite strong little guys.
is that what it is a potato bug, what are they really called.Ya they do look like they would bite really hard enough to draw blood.Tho is does look like part of the termite family.

dude these things are harmless it is sometimes called "child of the earth" or "mole cricket" & they actually eat scorpions. so yes they are very good for your safety and CAN NOT HURT YOU!!!!
Well in Trinidad well call them ground-puppies... but we know it is also called a mole cricket... and they can 'dig' you with their sharp claws and bite, if you try to hold them... O_o
In México this is call "Cara de niño"... Cara = Face... niño = child, boy... i saw many of this thing here.. when they are about to die, they scream... and caution, because they bite pretty painful !
Yes, I know exactly what this is b/c I've studied them for decades. It's called a tarantula (means giant spider in Spanish). Careful they are extremely poisonous and are known to be ferocious toward humans

it's called "potato cricket" "jerusalem cricket" or "child's face", thou it is not a cricket, doesn't come from Jerusalem nor eats potatoes. Completely inofensive (except for small and poor bugs), comes out from earth in rainy days and makes a sound like crickets... but still not a cricket... it's helpful for plants and gardens. Hope this information helps everyone who has seen one of this amazing bugs, don't kill them!!
Its a potato bug. When I ws a kid, my mom caught my brother with half of one in his mouth. He didn't get sick, so I would guess they aren't poisenous. That was in the early seventies, and I havent seen one since. You brought back a strange memory.
