They call it Potato Bug, Baby Face, and many other names; but it is in fact a type of cricket called the Jerusalem Cricket. It eats mulch and decaying matter in the forest and dig very well that's why they're so robust and big.

@viperd419 Called a Cricket Mole by the locals while living in the State of Georga and used to find them myself as a child in California years ago. The folks in Georgia claim that that they bite into regular PVC water pipes under ground systems looking for water. My own parents claimed much damage on them and when fixing the pipes they would only be bitten again in another spot. They changed out the PVC pipe for black pipe instead of the white pipe and the problem stopped as the plumbler said.

it's called "potato cricket" "jerusalem cricket" or "child's face", thou it is not a cricket, doesn't come from Jerusalem nor eats potatoes. Completely inofensive (except for small and poor bugs), comes out from earth in rainy days and makes a sound like crickets... but still not a cricket... it's helpful for plants and gardens. Hope this information helps everyone who has seen one of this amazing bugs, don't kill them!!
