My family is from Japan and I agree, the future is more important than the past. I live in Canada now and recognize the past of Japan but I think people shouldn't get mad at the Japanese people of today who weren't even born in that time. It's okay to be mad at the individuals of that time who are mostly dead now. Also many times if was the government of Japan's fault, not the people for what the military did.
In my experience there are always a small group of bad people in every military from every country. I'm sure a lot of bad things happened in WW2 from both sides. For myself since I and most people I know were borned many years after the war and have nothing to do with it, it would be more constructive to focus on the future. I don't see the point on trying to 'force' Japan to apologies for something done by a different government from a different time.

We should not forget history. What the Japanese did back in WWII was atrocious, and it should not be forgotten. However, we should not get stuck on the past either. Let's accept that it happened, that the Japanese textbooks don't mention the full truth these days, and that many people today still suffer from what they did. All we can do now is work hard and make the world a better place, not bringing more war upon ourselves by focusing on revenge.

How can you promote peace between China and Japan by threatening Japan with military action if they don't apologize for WWII? Once the two countries go to war, casualties would be heavy on both sides. That is hardly a peaceful solution to the problem.
Also, what is this "timebomb of Okinawa" incident you were speaking of? Google turns up nothing. In addition, to my knowledge Japan has repeatedly denied support for Taiwan's independence. Care to enlighten me about the issue?

My family is from Japan and I agree, the future is more important than the past. I live in Canada now and recognize the past of Japan but I think people shouldn't get mad at the Japanese people of today who weren't even born in that time. It's okay to be mad at the individuals of that time who are mostly dead now. Also many times if was the government of Japan's fault, not the people for what the military did.

In my experience there are always a small group of bad people in every military from every country. I'm sure a lot of bad things happened in WW2 from both sides. For myself since I and most people I know were borned many years after the war and have nothing to do with it, it would be more constructive to focus on the future. I don't see the point on trying to 'force' Japan to apologies for something done by a different government from a different time.

It's the same with me. My grandfather owned hundreds of acres of farm land just east of Vancouver, Canada before WW2. And lost it all because the Canadian government put his whole family in a prision camp because they thought they were Japanese spies even though they were just living a normal life. After that he was just low middle class and his previous land was worth millions but it was sold by the government. But that's just how people were in WW2 and revenge will lead to more suffering.

Europeans killed Native Indians centuries ago, Americans dropped atom bombs in Japan killing 300,000+, Iraq soliders killed people in Iran in 1979, Chinese soldiers kill Tibetians and take their land. Not for the Japanese because today they aren't the same people as their 1943 government. Even the normal Japanese of 1943 isn't the same, it's just 'some' of the government of 1943 who are dead now. Yes I'm a Canadian now and I just go back to Japan to visit family once every couple of years. Anyways you said Japanese doesn't deserve forgiveness? I'm half Chinese and I love China but I enjoy Anime and drive a Honda Civic and have many Japanese friends. Why not they make the best stuff. Now we have ours and the world knows now what happened in WW2. So to me and everybody I know, that's more than enough. I thought I already explained this to you before, same thing IIeverfreeII just mentioned. The Chinese government has encouraged their own citizens from a young age to hate / discrimation towards the Japanese to promote their nationalism. That way when they grow up, they'll continue to hate Japanese, sort of like you. Japan also took a lot of economic damage from other countires too such as the US during the war. Don't forget Pearl Harbour was a US inside job so they could enter the war.

Indeed, Japan should not have denied history. Denying history was the fault of the government, and you shouldn't blame the citizens for their ignorance of what really happened. Thus, asking the Japanese people to "pay" for what their government did is morally wrong. Holding a bias toward Japanese people simply because you don't like their gov't is equally stupid. We should not forget history. What the Japanese did back in WWII was atrocious, and it should not be forgotten. However, we should not get stuck on the past either. Let's accept that it happened, that the Japanese textbooks don't mention the full truth these days, and that many people today still suffer from what they did. All we can do now is work hard and make the world a better place, not bringing more war upon ourselves by focusing on revenge.

Also I talked to some American professors and regular people when I visit the US for work and many of them point out that of course Japan did a lot of bad things but also the US did too. At that time WW2, everybody knew the US had to enter the war but how, only if Japan attacked first but how? This was part of the reasoning behind the US resource embargo placed on Japan to starve them unless they attacked. So US knew Japan was going to attack and only of course when / where was a surprise.

By the same logic, Nationalist China was systematically killed and robbed by the Imperial Japan to rob the resources that they couldn't get abroad due to US Naval embargo. USA actually helped tremendously the nationalist china in fighting against Imperial Japan's aggresion in Korea, Philipine & vietnam too.

To be fair we don't know that for sure. That's just like saying if Hitler was never born the world would have been a better place. How can we know that for sure? You can pretty much imagine whatever you like with such kind of assumption. Virtual history is inherently problematic.
