It's absolutely great that you posted this!!! It would've been one of Smetana's greatest pieces, had he finished it, and a counterargument to those who think him a limited nationalistic composer. However, there are many other pieces of his that show that his view was much broader. Why, the symphonic poems Richard III (Shakespeare) or Hakon Jarl (inspired by Swedeish history) and so on. He didn't make his name by writing Czech music - he made the name of Czech music by giving his talents to it.
