Well there is that theory that the Pikachu in Brawl used to be Pichu from Melee. This is mainly because of Pikachu's final smash being Volt tackle, and how one of his costumes includes the goggles that Pichu had.
The majority of these characters being replaced are understandable... Toon Link for Young Link, Dr. Mario being a clone, etc. What I don't understand, is why they didn't make Dr. Mario an alternate costume for Mario?? Maybe he Wouldn't have his pills, but they could have said he went to Rehab or something
@BlacknLucky2011 Understandable, I have no problem with Dr. Mario being in as a stand-alone character as long as it doesn't take a slot away from any other deserving characters... Midna, Bomberman, Geno, Etc. Etc.... I know there's a few 3rd party slots, namely Geno and Megaman, but they fit so perfectly in the Smash Bro's world, and I think Dr. Mario was a great slot, but maybe as a transformation similar to Sheik or Pokemon Trainer? That would be my way to go with that lol

There's a reason that people try to forget about Pichu and Roy. They're both bottom-tier characters. Pichu is a god awful Pikachu clone that's just worse. Roy's sweet spot is terrible, as opposed to Marth's tipper, has bad range, slower than Marth, shorter wave dash, has a less responsive A, and all of his A attacks are weaker than Marth's.
Roy's got stronger specials, but B and side B attacks are terrible offensive ideas for Roy. Again, bottom tier for a reason.
I prefer Toon Link. Young Link is WAY TOO SIMILAR to Link, that sucked.
I prefer Roy more than Ike, because Ike sucks. For a 1on1 it would be okay, but not in 4 player matches. You kick him out, and when he's alive again, he just come to you and the two morons who can't play and just smashing the A-button as fast as they can, then Ike use Side-Smash, and all are dead -.-
And I prefer Mewtwo. He wasn't bad, the only thing that sucked on him in the old Super Smash Bros was, that he died too fast
I feel sad that Pichu didn't make it. I loved playing as pichu. I would fight my friend when he was pikachu and I was Pichu. It was so fun and fulfilling. It annoys me that Nintendo took anyone out. It really wouldn't have been all that hard to just put them in there. People wouldn't complain about more characters. We may not like some characters but that shouldn't matter to Nintendo.

Dr.Mario is Mario in diffirent look, so could have (or is i dont remember) be an alternate mario look. Young Link is replaced by Toon Link. Pichu is a Pikachu who hurts him/herself using Thunder. Roy...he was replaced by Marth or Ike. Mewtwo by Lucario. I don't remember if Roy had similar movesets with Marth/Ike but I guess if not, he's the only one missing.
They're pretty forgotten. I can't say I give a shit about Pichu or Dr.Mario being completely removed. Young Link, Roy, and Mewtwo were all replaced by superior counterparts. So it's all good, imo.

Yeah I miss Pichu for one reason it was fun to hear him say "he chew Pichu" (that's what it sounded like to me) as I'd send him flying off the screen and Doctor Mario would have been nice as a different suit for Mario like how Wario has two different styles of clothes and with Dr.Mario they could have had where it would even replace the fire entirely for him and the final smash would comprize entirley of pills.
OK the only reason Roy and Pichu are not in Brawl is because they were mainly promotional characters. now my opinion on Mewtwo is they had no reason to cut him. He was one of the very few secrete characters NOT to be a shameless clone.

Acrually, he was. Would they put about the same two people in brawl? No. The reason they put sonic in is because they still had a bit of copyright after they made mario and sonic in the olympic games. So they didn't here that they could do sonic while they were making it, that would just be stupid of sega.

I dunno, I liked Toon Link a lot more mainly 'cause Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda game -- but Majoras Mask is my second and those fire arrows were the shiz. Pichu was definitely my favorite character in Melee. He was my most used and is the Smash Champ according to my Melee records, heh.
They should have mad Dr. Mario and Pichu alternate costumes of Mario and Pikachu, respectively. Roy still should have been in Brawl, in my opinion, even though he was a walking ad for Fire Emblem 6: Sword of Seals, which was never released outside of Japan because they were afriad it was to hardcore for us Americans. I know, I played a patched ROM of it, and crap, it is hard. I don't know about Mewtwo, but it still isn't fair to just wipe four characters off the face of the game.

Mewtwo had one of the best second jumps in melee. He could also use his teleport for an little more boost. Roy is faster and can pull of combos. He sword shoots flames. Pichu was just lovable in its playful nature. Young link has no pants. He has a fire arrow and uses the deku shield. Toon link wears pants..
@smashbrosfan13 Roy is slower and cant KO, his sword DOESNT shoot flames, he has a long grab a good dash dance and his sword sweetspot is in the middle rather than on the end.

no they took them out due to time constrats Mewtwo was almost done when sega allowed Sonic to be put in so they stopped work on him for Sonic therefore making no time for mewtwo to be finished it had nothing with movesets because they made clones in this one to and the final smashs obviously they didnt care about cloneing them (landmasters, Triforce Slash)
I miss mewtwo, even though he had the worst moves, they could have improved, and why the f**k do they get rid of thes guys for sucking "roy didn't suck let me clarify that"
and keep jiggly puff the s#!tiest character in all of smash bros.
Those were ones of my favorites all of would be on my top ten of SSB of all time.

Ike and Roy are almost the same, just Ike is a bit stronger but slower.
Lucario just sucks. Mewtwo was so much better.

Acrually, he was. Would they put about the same two people in brawl? No. The reason they put sonic in is because they still had a bit of copyright after they made mario and sonic in the olympic games. So they didn't here that they could do sonic while they were making it, that would just be stupid of sega.
So, Replicatte is right, Mewtwo was replaced with Lucario. Think of the obvious things, not the stupid things.

you are actually dead wrong on that because they have so much unfinished data of mewtwo in the game that it was brought up with the game creator in an interview and that was the reason they have to get individual copywrights for characters for diffrent games nintendo cannot just put sonic in w/e they want cuz of the olympic games they still need permission and look at link and toon link REPLICA CHARACTERS and lucario and mewtwo have one move in common and thats it

I dunno, I liked Toon Link a lot more mainly 'cause Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda game -- but Majoras Mask is my second and those fire arrows were the shiz. It would be weird with both of them in ... maybe Link should've gotten the ability to turn into Young Link through the final smash? Would have been neat.
Pichu was definitely my favorite character in Melee. He was my most used and is the Smash Champ according to my Melee records, heh.

They didn't kick young link out, they replaced him with toon link, because in his games, toon link is a young version of link.

They should have mad Dr. Mario and Pichu alternate costumes of Mario and Pikachu, respectively. Roy still should have been in Brawl, in my opinion, even though he was a walking ad for Fire Emblem 6: Sword of Seals, which was never released outside of Japan because they were afriad it was to hardcore for us Americans. I know, I played a patched ROM of it, and crap, it is hard. I don't know about Mewtwo, but it still isn't fair to just wipe four characters off the face of the game.

i have melee i play it even if i have brawl...
but it's because i miss the caracters like PICHU DR. MARIO MEWTWO ROY... i realy like that all the characters of melee were in brawl incluid the stage I REALY MISS THOSE STAGE :(

The Doc is in the house!
Mewtwo had one of the best second jumps in melee. He could also use his teleport for an little more boost. Roy is faster and can pull of combos. He sword shoots flames. Pichu was just lovable in its playful nature. Young link has no pants. He has a fire arrow and uses the deku shield. Toon link wears pants..

@smashbrosfan13 Roy is slower and cant KO, his sword DOESNT shoot flames, he has a long grab a good dash dance and his sword sweetspot is in the middle rather than on the end.

the thing is even though these characters where part clones they had diffrence's pichu hurt himself making you have to be more conservative with his specail attacks Dr. mario was slower with more power than mario mewtwo and lucario are nothing alike niether are roy and ike and young link could have been made into something complietely diffrent also aout ur dr. mario comment say when was he in a game last look at the virtual console they made a game for him when was Mr g & w in a game last?

Why they were cut:
Pichu: Hurt itself more than opponets. So what nintendo?
Young Link: He basically is in brawl. Only difference is taunt and arrow. they just upgraded his model
Dr. Mario:OK, when was the last time you heard of Dr. Mario being in a game? But still, come on nintendo!
Mewtwo & Roy: Because nintendo loves to see children cry

your very wrong there Mewtwo and Pichu are in the new pokemon games so they have a game Dr. Mario was re-made for the Wii so there is him roy was in a game not to long after melee and i belive has been referred to in recent Fire Emblem games and Young Link is Link just younger and Link was in twilight princess

dr.mario should have appeard as a skin for mario on brawl, young link would of been cool in brawl,seeing him in t.p style would be awsome.pichu should have atleast appeard as an assist trophy,mewtwo was pretty cool thow, it sucks that he's gone,and roy.... who the frick is roy?

well i liked pichu and Dr. Mario although they are unneeded characters and Toon Link and young link could have been diffrent they could hae had Young link be able to change into Zora Link, Deku link, and Goron link (like the pkmn trainers pkmn switch move) and then his final smash be ferstiede(spelled wrong i know) link and Mewtwo should have stayed along with Roy

the only characters i miss are roy and mewtwo, dr. mario was just like mario except for unnoticable differences, pichu was emo, and young link wasn't as fast as toon link. i like mewtwo and roy because i would want to see a fight between lucario and mewtwo and i personaly think roy was better than marth because of the fire attacks, including flare blade which ike's immitation does not match in power

no they took them out due to time constrats Mewtwo was almost done when sega allowed Sonic to be put in so they stopped work on him for Sonic therefore making no time for mewtwo to be finished it had nothing with movesets because they made clones in this one to and the final smashs obviously they didnt care about cloneing them (landmasters, Triforce Slash)
