@TheZhongzheng 柔道(roudao/judo) is just another name for gentle methods. Taijiquan can literally be regarded as 柔道. The throws shown in this video is no different than the throws in Judo. Taijiquan practitioners can make up new throws outside their curriculum; Judo practitioners can make up new throws outside their curriculum. In the end, all throws that utilize unbalancing and leverage as oppose to brute strength can be classified as 柔術(roushu/jujutsu) or "gentle methods".
@ForwardIntent The throws shown here are all Tai chi chuan, they are not made up outside the curriculum. thanks for your explanation concerning gentle methods though, that is a nice term.
@TheZhongzheng Yes, what I mean is that Taijiquan practitioners CAN make up new throws outside THEIR curriculum and still regard them as Taiji as long as they follow Taiji principles. That's how all these martial arts were developed in the first place.
@ForwardIntent Yes I agree, all the techniques in a form are merely suggestions which through practice develop what I like to term as a Tai Chi body, then anything is possible and through practice sparring, wrestling etc new techniques are developed. The way the techniques in the video are done are done with Tai Chi principles and that is what makes them different from that of Judo. Externally they may appear the same. :)
