  • well, he at least looked confident on his approach.

  • LOL

  • Pete Weber-the long lost strike weilding cousin of Dustin Hoffman?

  • OMG... Even I have not failed like that :)

  • the strike before the gutter ball looked like half the ball was hanging over the edge so it's no surprise when was all jacked up it just had a little too much juice. God i hate Pete Weber though.

  • EPIC GUTTERBALL! LOL!

  • FAIL

  • Dumb ass

  • As much as I dislike Weber, I disliked Ballard even more. I was watching this live and I was thinking "gutterball" and when that baby dipped in the channel, I doubled over with laughter.

  • To his credit he came back and WON the very next week.

  • What a retard. Just lob it down the middle and you would easily get 7.

  • After this tournament is when they all started throwing it down the middle when they needed a small count to win...

  • it doesn't matter if he won a title 2 weeks later, he should've picked up the victory this time with ease

  • @iamzbacku Quite the opposite, my friend.

  • He's got the scott the engineer black cloud on top of him

  • I just threw up

  • whoops. i once had the first six and then the next one in the ditch. but hardly the same pressure as here. don't think ballard choked, just rushed the shot a bit and dumped it (right shoulder dropped a bit)

  • Haha-Nelson

  • anyone ever watch Rocko's Modern Life with the episodes of Mr. Fathead purposly throwing gutterballs during his bowling match when he needed only on pin. Then goes to throw the last ball and like destroys the entire bowling ally but not a single pin falls down haha?

    This reminded me of that.

  • Hahaha! I just watched Pete Weber! guy had like a 275 average! Damn!

  • @thegoodnamesrallgone That's untrue. This clip was edited to omit Pete's initial response. PDW leaped out of his seat, running around like Ernie Schlegel with his fists pumping over his head. When he realised the crowd wasn't cheering with him he put his arms over his head in an attempt to save face. Good sportsmanship has never been a strongsuit of Pete Weber's.

  • @20alphabet Starting at 1:58 the video shows that you are wrong.

  • And that's why you don't throw what i call a crank ball. A throw that creates a big hook but flirts with the gutter. If you miss by just half a board, you could be cleaning the gutter for the house.

  • Pete Weber has two words for him SUUUUCK IT! Check out my video response people!

  • That is what you get for flirting with the gutter.

  • lol Pete's like "OMG!!! How could this happen!! :O"

  • "yeaahhh baby! Get ya some!"

    *Gutterball*

    ....get ya none!

  • Weber didnt want to win that way

  • Saved by Zero.

  • Ouch!

  • I can't remember what was the last time when I threw a gutterball

  • OMG

  • I'd almost feel bad for winning that way. However, lessons have to be learned!

  • I remember this match very well I went to one of the days at Kings Point it was a new fair lanes here in Baltimore and they moved it from Woodlawn. and watching the final on TV pulling for Del Ballard. The whole family was watching and could not believe that he ditched the ball. After that year they moved it back to Woodlawn for the lack of room for the stands. Kings Point was an innovated center back then. We were out of Fair Lanes Dundalk .

  • 1:21 For a bowling crowd, that groan was INTENSE!

  • Ballard sets the standard for the big benders: you want to throw 44 boards you pay the price sometimes. Nobody's perfect and why temp fate?

  • yeahhhhh!!!!! getcha some.......gutter

  • @D0nTDriNkTheWaTeR king pin lol

  • That is like a kick in the nuts

  • SUCK IT!

  • Dick Weber pulled him into the office prior to this match. Del Ballard is now ranked within the top 50 PBA Greatest, though he was never as good as most that never made the list. You do the math. This anecdote was well-known during the 90's before Petes popularity with the new owners. This along with many other inside facts and stories will be included in my book.

  • he shudve thrown it down the middle ohh well hahaha

  • 1:10 ed werder to the left

  • When you only need 7 pins to win, throw the damn thing down the middle...

  • PWN !

  • He got nerverous. it happens..

  • maybe if that fucking idiot didnt throw so close to the gutter.

  • no...that was a choke, it was right of target.

  • @Fukkensaved

It wasnt a ''bad break''. There's no wind or unpredictable elements comes in in a game of bowling. The guy choked under the pressure. Its that simple.

  • When I responded to that I thought he was talking about something else, so I was wrong, the missed 10 pin was a choke. However, the oil pattern certainly qualifies as an unpredictable element, if you don't agree you should go play a tournament on a sport pattern.

  • @nso1256 this seems more like viper

  • penis

  • they used to make so much more money winning tournaments back then. only sport that has declined prize money since 91

  • To the poster: Any relationship to Mike???

  • @20alphabet - No.

  • @nso1256 thank you! lol i was born in 1991 so the only patterns i know are the animal patters

  • thanks for the tip

  • JACKASS!!!!!

  • the Fabball Blue Hammer.. greatest ball of all time.. I still shoot with my 1991 Blue Hammer.....

  • @ProfessorIgor I tottaly agree that the Blue Hammer was the greatest ball of all time. If I was still bowling, I too would still use it. I don't know if your from tha Baltimore area but Fab Ball the makers of the Hammers were based here and very popular. I could never quite handle the resin balls. My kids on the other had used them with much success and carried very high avgs. 190s- 218s.

  • @hansk1955 I used a Sledgehammer Syntactive resin ball after fabball was sold and it's almost TOO hyper. I am shooting with a Rotogrip Theory currently. GREAT ball. But yeah, I still bring out the Blue Hammer for 10 pins or when the doofuses at the house run a short pattern.. Earl Anthony style right over the 3rd arrow.. LOL They call me dinosaur when I use it, but there's a guy that's in the league that spares with an ORIGINAL 1987 Blue Nail !!! Some of the old balls still rock (or roll ?)

  • Ballard seemed to be in such a rush and acting like it was practice at Bill Branson Chevrolet League night instead of a championship....soooo wierd

  • Hey..... forget the word 'channel'! It's the 'gutter'! Always was and always will be!

  • Man, That had to hurt. Del Ballard Jr. is a pro and threw a gutterball on his final throw. I would feel the same way if that happened to me.

  • does anybody know which oil patter this is?

  • The audience said OW when he missed the last bowl. They apparently knew how much it had hurt Del Ballard.

  • The strength of anger when Ballard rips his wrist support off.

  • Never saw that and i knew it was coming. Ballerd was playing with fire on every shot and that last one just was do fired up he lofted it a bit to far and did not have the room.

  • lol this never gets old :D

  • @edjr672 I was there. The crowd was in shock. Haha

  • This is worse then missing the 10 pin for a major championship haha

  • I remember seeing this live on TV. That must've been like a kick in the nuts for poor ol' Del. Talk about wanting to crawl into a hole die...

  • what happened to del since that day?

  • Is that a Dick Weber Wrist Master, the irony!

  • asshole

  • That is the choke of the century!

  • Once you saw how close the ball was going into the gutter, you had to know what was coming on that final shot...

  • all i gotta say is....OWNED!

  • Yeah, i saw Mika miss that easy 10 pin. It's got to be the nerves that'll make someone do that. You've got the people watching there at the bowling alley, plus the TV cameras on you, & lots of concentration. Even Mika couldn't believe he missed that single pin conversion. It happens to even those guys once in a while.

  • Did anyone see Mika choke yesterday? Missed the 10 pin to win the title.,

  • Just as bad if not worse than Mika Koivuniemi's 10 pin spare fail at the Lumber Liquidators U.S. Open...

  • OMG that's a LOSER!

  • i didnt realize he handed pete weber $150,000 lol...lesson to be learned here, TAKE YOUR TIME.

  • FAIL

  • should of thrown it straight....lol

  • @JatMane Ballard rushed it & over confident. anything can happen in sports.

  • Sucks to be him.

  • omfg

  • Hope this never happens to me.

  • I think Pete Weber would have felt much better had he come from behind to win the match instead of backing into the title in this way.

  • Del got Munsoned.

  • i would have faked a heart attack!

  • Yep, you're right, sucked for him, but funny for us. lol

  • typical bozo ballard.......just roll it straight down the MIDDLE!!! not that close to the gutter like he did the whole match duhhhhhhhh

  • That sucks for him... but it was pretty damn funny for us!

  • omg that gutterball just cost him $150,000

  • @quietdrive911 No, he got about half that for his 2nd place finish.

  • Some kid in my high school league today needed 3 pins to beat some team. He was on a four-bagger and all he needed was 3 fluckin pins. He goes up to the line, slides, releases, AND...................gutterball!!!!

  • Pete Weber could've been Player of the Year in 1991, but he served a six-month suspension which destroyed his chances. He won three titles on the Winter Tour, then sat out for six months. He should have been Player of the Year in 1987, but he got drunk at the ABC Masters and was told to stay home for a couple of months. The players took it out on him and voted for Marshall Holman. Holman didn't win a title that year, but had other credentials that got him the Player of the Year award.

  • "Git chu some".....haha. I bet that ball isn't in a trophy case.... Probably split like a walnut when he cracked it with a sledgehammer out back about the same time Pete was giving his victory speech. . I've thrown the same thing, but to do it on tv....for the win. That ball earned the hammer logo...probably where it came from...lol.

  • Overconfidence fail.

  • del got a pinch fast with his feet on the gutter ball. a lil off balance and whoops. once i started a game with 6 in a row and threw it in the ditch in the 7th.

  • Now we know why the pros when needing a certain count just stand in the middle and throw the high hard to stay away from the gutter.

  • That happened to me today except I needed 6 pins to get a 200. I got so pumped up and in the last ball of the tenth frame I told myself no gutters and that is exactly what I did gutter ball holy crap I was pist off but the good news i still got my point.

  • "Yea BABY!!! Get you some!" haha LOLZ

  • You're my boy baldtoe!

  • WOW! Del Ballard! Throws it in the channel! This is why we play the game! Right folks! hehehehehe! WOW!

  • YAAAAA!!! BABY!

    YES SIR!

    HUH!!

    Oooooooooohhh no.

  • @worldslayer I reject your reality and substitute it with my own. Pete is my boy !!!

  • OMGWTFBBQ... lol i thought that was going to happen. He plays dangerously close to the gutter.

  • classic example of what happens when you get too emotion and caught up in thinking you've won

  • I have met Pete Weber. He's a great guy !

  • @phillipmoseley plus, Weber, like any true pro, doesn't relish winning because his opponent guttered.

  • Poor Del...I saw this live. He should have gone for a simple stright ball.

Pete was actually quite the gentleman!

However, yes, if that were Pete he would have exhibited some extreme Townsend-Moon behavior, I think!

  • omg

  • I wondered if anything like this every happened, the Internet has it all.

  • 0:08 does my ball smells good?

  • @a2kafg he's blowing in the thumb hole to help with his grip.

  • @JudyGurl ahh i c

  • ouch!!!!!!!!!

  • That is the classic: Counting your chickens before they're hatched.

  • i do thats all the time but i only bowl for fun

  • @phillipmoseley Maybe Weber actually has a soul.

  • @FlytrapStudios

I think it was kind of embarrasing for both of them. Hurts to see a pro make a critical error, and Del was always right out on the edge-a real gambler.

  • Full of lolz.

  • Man! I remember watching this on Tv when I was a kid.

  • down the middle

  • I remember watching this when it happened. Forgot about it until now...Good post!

  • Genxman - yes, je me souviens (I remember)!

    The infamous Ballard Ball...

  • Pete, love that Harry Reems porn stash !

  • I remember the announcer later saying "Del Ballard has left the building" lol. Anyways, no biggie for him. 1 bad loss, many great wins.

  • that was a $150,000 title too if i was ballard i woulda been a lot more pissed than that lol

  • Dude, the $150,000 you are referring to was the total prize fund, with $27,000 going to the winner and $14,000 t the runner-up.

That now-Infamous Ballard Ball cost Del Ballard $13,000, but. like the great champion he is, he won 3 titles that year (1991), and that shot is why many players now who just need a decent count (anything less than 7 pins) just take their spare ball out, stay behind the foul line, and throw it right down the middle.

Even Cindy Margolis can get 7 pins doing that.

  • 0:52 "YAAAAAAAAAA! BAAYBEEE!"

  • FAIL=LOL

  • Once had a match against a local pro on a professional pattern. He threw the front 10 on me I come out with the front 6 gutter and go off the sheet for 270. He beat me 286 - 270. It was the worst beat I've ever taken. Gutters happen when you play the channel like that. Amazing

  • I like the reaction from the audience. Went from cheers to surprised gasps in a split second.

  • TO ALL YOU BOWLERS OUT THERE...REMEMBER THIS????

  • i remember seeing this as a 7 year old, in total shock that even the pros can get an occasional gutter ball...

  • EPIC FAIL!!!!!!

  • OMFG!!!! I have NEVER seen a gutterball on any PBA televised match!! WOW!!!

  • Where is Del ballards official channel ? Anyone ?

  • Had a feeling that was gunna happen, lol that would suck so much!

  • He was just aiming at the 1. Oh im sorry, the 1/2. lol

  • I guess this is the reason why nowadays when bowlers need 7 pins or less to win a match they just throw a straight ball. LOl! This is hilarious

  • FAIL

  • im surprised ballard didnt throw a gutterball sooner. looking at the firtst two strikes in this video, he's playing an extremely dangerous line. the breakpoint of the first two shots was seriously like the 3rd board. maybe even closer in?

  • I hate the new youtube format!

  • wow that looked like donovan mcnabb at the superbowl and he got over excited and forced the shot

  • He should have taken a few seconds to think about this shot. He was playing a terrible line: loft out 15 feet to 15 board, roll out to 2 board, then come back into the pocket. When making a total clutch shot, a lot of bowlers throw it out further and give it more revs. With his line, Del didn't have that luxery. He should have thrown his 5 pin spare-ball: tight and fast with a little hook.

Yet...this shot DID make him famous, like why people know HIM but not, say, Billy Hardwick.

  • Ballard bowling= FAIL, but he has a HOT wife so it evens out.

  • this should be in the hall of EPIC FAIL

  • Ha ha ha .. love the annotations

  • chokeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • try living that down!

  • hell of a way to lose....damn

  • You want to win - but not like that!!!!

  • choked!!!! nervous tightened up and he relaxed way tooooo much on the release. Otherwords Choked, too bad.

  • today's the anniversary, I heard on PTI today

  • I was 12 when I watched this -even now it's still a shocker

  • Why didn't he take his spare ball?

  • lol this was in 1991 man

  • My grandfather, dad's dad, apparently used to be a very good bowler. I think he said that he bowled with Pete Weber once. He told me what he thought of him. I believe he thought he was an ass or something.

  • LOL i always made that mistake

  • EPIC FAIL

  • Did they have wireless mics attached to the players back then? How is the sound of the players talking so clear?

  • @derekli04 I guess they must've had wireless lapel microphone's back then too.

  • Mark it 8 dude.

  • ROFL HAHAH LMFAO

  • biggest choke job ever in a major

  • This is how he got his name on the PBA Top 50 list. Daddy Dick guaranteed the 1st to 2nd place money diff and a nice place in the clubs history if he let PeeWee have the title. Done deal.

Naw, just kidding, but you never know. Big Dick was a deal-maker.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • OMG.....a gutter ball ? I know the adreneline can be pumpin and you thinkin bout it too hard, but WHOA....I love Petes reaction. On a side note, I got to meet Pete Weber this weekend and watched him bowl at a thing in Memphis. It was SOOOOOO FREAKIN COOL !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rubber arm, lol

  • thats what happens when your to pumped up. he didn't settle down.

  • ouch that's gotta hurt lol.
