  • How big is your piece of paper

  • @TheOrigamiartist I used 10 inch paper, I think that makes a good size turtle.

  • @Marigami Thank you very much,my favorite animal is a Turtle,and my favorite origamist is Robert J. Lang....so this was a win-win situation,and for that,I will be subscribing =)

  • Hey!

Mine turned out alright, a decent turtle for a first attempt at this model. I used tissue foil, the pleats in the shell didnt have the resistance and pop that normal paper would have, I'm going to try again this again with different paper.

    Thanks!

  • amazing!

  • square paper?

  • @TheKingbhavik Yes, absolutely.

  • i'm having trouble shaping the shell and making it stand any tips

  • It's somehow unfair. Sometimes the video is cut and scenes were removed and replaced, also the there is too much speed between the steps sometimes oh and...

did i forget the not explained helpline for the pivotfold, which are the very important step to achieve symetrical squashfolds later on?...

Needed 20damn minutes to complete this turtle...arg... :(

  • c ool turtle

  • you ccan also get it from the origami bible

  • Mine came out like a frog too D;

  • my turtle is like a frog

  • To all who are complaining about the video speed: just pause it, fold the paper and continue. It's not hard. Sheesh.

  • i made a sweet snowball

  • This is an excellent demonstration. The only reason many have problems with the feet is that they aren't familiar with the folds. The folds are basic mountain and reverse folds. Folds you learn in easier origami models. Lang's models are intermediate to advanced. This turtle is an intermediate model. Beautifully done!

  • OMG!!!... i cant do the shell part.. :(

  • I love the sound of the papper

  • STOP SPEADING IT UP AT HARD BITS!!!!

  • i totally got lost when u did the back, i used computer paper XDD is that ok ?

  • @kittykathy597 No you have to use a square peice of paper!!

  • WOW, YOU REALLY MANIPULATE AND FORCE THAT PAPER. WONDER WHY IT DOESN'T TEAR.

  • como chingaus kieres que la agamos

  • thanks!

  • what a beauty!

  • Wow!It isn't very easy !

  • this is sooo cool but its damnn hard

  • awsome turtle and where did u get the book with this diagram in it??

  • @kj40000 Yes, it's a great model! I got "Origami Design Secrets" through Amazon

  • How big does the paper have to be

  • @movelea umm for beginners i would suggest a 10 x 10 or mabye an 8 x 8

  • is it a square piece or like a whole piece of paper?

  • @lillmisspretty The paper is square.

  • @lillmisspretty

square is when all sides have the same length. Watch the vid bud

  • i like turtles!

  • it goes wayway to fast!!!!!

i am a slow learner but i had to go over like each step like 5X!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice turtle but, when you said you were supposed to collaspe the origami at 3:21 that's when I lost you.

  • grr i cant make the sheellllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it's slightly difficult to follow since there's almost no way to see the picture clearly once you pause it since the video is going by pretty fast, but the instructions were quite nice. Overall, good instructions and a great outcome.

  • sorry but i got stuck at where u make the legs :( i was so close to making it but guss what im not so good at these high tecy folds yet im the kind of guy that makes the balloon and ninjga star or crane or dragon those but thx it looked great but it was a fail for me good by...

  • @TheHeydood123 The legs are just a series of inside and outside reverse folds. Do you know how to do that fold? Also, it's good to include the time from the video, at the point where you are having trouble.

  • after sprawling on youtube for origami ideas and models i come across this. Best one yet! Awesome, love it, no probs. I have no complaints, instead, i only have thanks and now, a new turtle

  • @essenceofcool Thanks! It's such a great turtle model. I may have to re-upload this video to fix the back ground hum.

  • origamis are hard. i need help!

  • what is the noise in the background?

    very annoying :S

  • @pickachu32 Yes, it is annoying. As you could probably guess, I was having a problem with the video camera.

  • When I get to the diamond part there isn't enough flaps on mine ;-/

  • what size paper do you use becous i used it on printing paper and it didnt work it aparently was to small

  • I used 10 inch origami paper (thinner than printing paper if you mean copy paper) to make a turtle about 4 1/2 inches long.

  • ok there's something missing at 4:14, mine doesn't look anything like that.

  • Thanks, very nice!

  • can you put a video of the gold fish that teaches you in that same book i love that origami

  • Thank-you so much for your excellent video

great camera work it was very clear, and

now I made a awesome turtle, thanks again.

    peace

  • do u kno where i can find a diagram of this? i love the model but its 2 dam hard for me! :(

  • The diagram is in Robert Lang's book "Origami Design Secrets."

  • yay i did it :D

  • moving too fast for me so i couldnt make sense of it i rewinded over 50 times then quit

  • Hello Mari.... You Know Robert J. Lang.?

  • Yes, he's on the board of OrigamiUSA (OUSA). :-)

  • i cant seem to get the tail right, and anything after that seems impossible, couldt you upload the video slower and show and explain the folds more clearly?

  • Awesome vid. Ehh I need some help with the "orchid blossom" on page (371, Origami design secrets , I aint perfect so I'm stuck on step 9 and ten . I'd appreciate any help with that.

  • Thanks for sharing this video, could you please fold the western pond turtle ? that would be great! btw, nice job, you are the man

  • thats not fair i thing the hardest part are the legs..and there the speed at the video is higher...:(

  • @FumezKentLung I know right D'8 LOL

orz, this is going to take a while for me. D'x

  • lol woops i pushed a button and switched pages =] lol my bad... but i stand my ground on that thought =] i love origami =] lol

  • hello you can make a guide care the tarantula of robert lang? I jam in the passage which goes from the 17 to the 19. thanks

  • No, sorry, I haven't folded that model. Google "The Origami Forum" and you can post a request for help on those steps.

  • ah ok... then leaving alone the tarantula..over the turtle (what and very beautiful) video of origami bugs of robert lang posts of it? excuse but me I don't speak very well English:)

  • If you are looking for some of Lang's bug model videos, go to YouTube Channel AdamsSara. She has a great video for Lang's Scorpion.

  • Awesome turtle. Very nice video. Thankz

  • wat size of sheet

  • I used 10" for the video.

  • From 7:16 to 8:27 the parts where you do the valley fold and pleating to round the shell up

  • make a dragon!

  • I just get stuck at where you valley-fold the botom(tail) to round the turtle :(

  • Please list the time where that step appears in the video. (YouTube will make it a link so I can see exactly where you are looking in the video)

  • is that a square or round paper?

  • Square :-)

  • where do you get your paper from? It looks really good quality

  • The brown paper and dark green (that I folded with in the video) is just regular origami paper that I got from local crafts stores (Michael's, A C Moore). The light green turtle was from a dollar store Mulberry paper that came out great.

  • your soooooooo talented in origami

  • umm im using a square peice of paper but at 1:05 it doesnt fold over that evenly.... so i cant do the next steps

  • If the pivot fold at 00:41 is off, then that might be why it's not even at 1:05...

  • i couldnt see the step at 0:41, so the step at 1:05 i could not do accurately, its probably just me if everyone else can do it. i guess im not at that level yet. no worries

  • To Pivot fold there, put your finger next to the center pinch crease so when you fold the paper to the right the crease begins in the center of the paper. Pivoting on that point, bring the corner of the paper to the crease on the left. When it's lined up, make the crease.

  • nice turtle anyway

  • I think they're just really good friends...

  • lol, i meen shell...

  • I love all of your videos!!!!

    :)

  • what size paper did you start with?

  • awsome turtle

  • Hi! I folded a turtle by following your video and it came out pretty well. I did have to make further adjustments to the feet, though. Your video is very helpful!! thanks a lot!! :)

  • this is the best video ive seen of rjl.

he is the best origami maker in the world!

  • sorry that was my brothers account i am who said that Kamiya Lang and Takashi are genius's

  • You must be the smarter brother ;-)

  • Satoshi Kamiya , Robert Lang , and Hojyo Takashi are genius's

  • Absolutely!

  • hi there!

i tried this model and i didn't get a very good one...

but it will improve with pracice

    thank you, great video ^^

  • Gracias Komesanos! After making a couple of them, they started coming out great. It's a cool model.

  • holy shit thats too hard for me

may be that i have no patient but i tried to make one like yours and.... pfff no way

  • THankls im 10 years old and my turtle looks buetiful THANKYOU! i hope if i give this to my grandpa in the hospital he will feel better

  • I hope your turtle made him smile!

  • i made a good one this time

  • im made one and im 11 and its a pice of crape!

  • in that book does it show you how to make the scales on that fish cuz ive been wanting to know for ages

  • Yes, the book has great diagrams and another turtle with a more textured/detailed shell.

  • WOW Mari...BEAUTIFUL job! I'm very new to Origami, and have just been watching some video here on Youtube. I haven't tried this turtle yet, but do have the book. My only complaint, and it's really not a complaint, but I would like to have had 'audio', either you talking us through it, or just some nice music. Other than that Mari, GREAT job. Look forward to watching more of your video's.

  • Thanks smitty747! The background sound/music is always a tough call. It's hard to pic middle-of-the-road music that is not too distracting, but I think I was able to do that on my other videos. I hope your turtle turns out great!

  • Hi Mari: Just checked out your cool website. Nicely set up, and great links. Oh, and a correction, I don't have this book. Not sure why I thought I did, but it's a book I do want to order, eventually. I have some good books now, and just need to find some cool paper to practice with. I've read over your suggestions on paper. I've only had time to check out one of your video's Mari, but you might want to do what 'Sara' is doing, and explain what you are doing step by step. Just a thought.

  • I think Lang did a version of this turtle in one of his early books.

Actually the feedback I've received is that people prefer the text comments instead of talking. It's more universal since more people can read English than can understand it spoken. And of course it's even more important to actually be able to see the folding clearly, which I hope these videos accomplished.

  • I think you're right Mari. I believe there is a much easier version in another book, but I haven't tried it. Have you ever folded up a Kangaroo? There is one in one of John Montroll's books I would LOVE to learn. I tried it about a year ago, but got lost. The 'text' is fine Mari. I wasn't complaining. You go slow enough, that it's easy to follow. I'll be watching more of your folding today. Could you do a Kangaroo for me?? :-}

  • Good suggestion - Montroll's Kangaroo is a cool model and fortunately I have his book "Origami Wild Animals." I'll contact him for his permission...

  • AWESOME Mari. I will look forward to watching your video, if Mr. Montroll gives permission. I'm sure he will, as I see many of his models being folded on here. I have a new dear friend in Australia, and my plan is to fold a bunch of these, and mail them to her. She takes in wounded joey's, fixes em up, and releases them to the wild. I will try this again, while waiting on your video. THANK YOU for being willing to fold this for me Mari.

  • hm.... can you show us how to make the COMPLEX turtle? ;P

  • !!!!! * * * * *

    ;D))))

    xxx

  • Wow!! Great stop motion, excellent instruction, awesome ★★★★★ vid!!!

  • hehe...., Jag gillar egentligen Langs designer och dina video! Tacka dig mycket:-D

  • Vær så god! Norwegian spelling is konstig. ;-)

  • It looks awesome! I can't wait to try this :) Good job with creating the video as well. Keep up the excellent work!

  • PERFECT!
