what do you think. should I make an fj40? I have a neighbor that ripped the engine and transmission out of a fj40 like two years ago and hasn't touched it. It is in perfect shape. it doesn't have any rust and original paint. the interior is perfect. I am just scared to ask how much he wants for it because it isn't for sale at the moment. It is just so sad for such a great vehicle to just sit there. It also must be one of the few in the US.
I did something like this in my FJ40 with the stock F engine! Had never been to that particular mud hole, but decided to try it out anyway, and it turned out to be WAY too deep, I'm surprised I didn't get stuck or suck in water (no snorkel). After I (barely) made it out some dude came up and told me the day before a guy in a H1 Hummer got so stuck they had to call a crane to come LIFT him out of the mud!! Still the greatest glory my "Man Bruiser" has ever bestowed upon itself.
Other than the time I pulled a 2500 HD Chevy pick-up towing a 5th wheel camper out the mud (but that time I strapped my rear bumper to a tree and used my winch with a snatch block... And they were just barely stuck...)
awesome fj40, im a patrol man but my dad owned one and i grew up fourwheel driving with him in it, will always have a soft spot for the fj40, and yours is very impressive :D
wols0003 n ofys. Guys. I hear ya. And I kinda agree with where you're coming from. I thought about reconing the 2F before it was removed. But the current motor in it was to tempting for me. Some guys are straight 6 fans. And while I love my 6 packs to, I just love the Chevy V8 more so. And it's lighter than the 2F, more torque than the 2F and that's where it's at for me. The more torque the better. I did look at the Lexus V8. But the torque factor wasn't there. It's hard to please everyone. =)
Nice looking Fj40,I am considering to purchased a Landcruiser myself.I have to agree with you on the Chevy V8.I got a '98 Camaro Z28 with the Ls1 engine and the torque is awesome,so I understand why the Chevy V8.
you my man are a fuking legend. kudos to you for taking what would obviously be you pride and joy out to do things like that.
iv always loved the fj 40's and am saving up to buy one im 22 now and want to be able to do stuff like what you do.... dunno if ill have the balls tho! LOL nice work man
Lots of different types of V8's fit in the 40 series engine bay. This one is a 2002 injected 5.7L LS1 motor. It's stock apart from a dyno tuned power curve and dual VCM valve springs. =)
Cheers! The 30cm in the front you're talking about is because the truck uses leaf springs. A way around this is to go with coil springs if you can afford it.
oi mate its about 30 cm away so when you got a bullbar on and you hit a roo or a cow, the bullbar doesnt slam back into the front, on other cruisers it will cus there is no gap
This truck has been featured in the May issue of a New Zealand off road magazine called, NZ 4x4 Action. If you google their name you'll go to their website. =)
nothin beats a V8 powerd Cruiser. My dads got a '68 with a 350 small block and a turbo 400 tranny with a 3 speed slap shift. shit will get up and go through anything.
I thought you was stuck when you stopped, No problem though, lol. Thats one impressive car, I can think of a few busy roads with ponds on the side of them so I may get this car to beat the rush hour traffic ;)
Thanks for watching people n thanks for all your comments. Since this clip I've had some good mods done to the 40. Such as, n air box, rear axle track bar, ARB lockers front and back, extractors exit each side forward of rear wheels, alloy radiator with twin fans, soft top, x8 IPF spot lights, 5 speed gear box, alloy rear mounted fuel tank, aircon pump turned into a air compressor with under floor air tank, twin Optima dry cell batteries to name a few things. I'll get some more utube of it soon.
i see a lot of the fj40 have a slant 6 in them, are the engin mounts the same as in a old jeep? becouse i have a 76 jeep with a great slant 6 i could use in my 1980 fj40
Not sure about the engine mounts. My FJ40 has an injected 5.7L Chevy V8 in it. So the engine mounts are different than stock. The 2F original 6 cylinder motor is good, just heavier and uses more petrol than the V8, not to mention down on horsepower. =)
I like the cheezy song! Hey the 40 will be sounding even better in the next few weeks. Subscribe to me videos and you won't miss out. =) I'm really looking forward to the new mods being done right now. I'll upload some video as soon as it's done.

Not sure about the engine mounts. My FJ40 has an injected 5.7L Chevy V8 in it. So the engine mounts are different than stock. The 2F original 6 cylinder motor is good, just heavier and uses more petrol than the V8, not to mention down on horsepower. =)
