  • Aww I want to hold them. I know it will bite me and i shouldn't do it anyway but I still want to. Can I at least get a cuddly toy that looks like them?

  • my kitten looks like that in the face but she is 100% domesticated cat, she is grey and white.. and a tom boy lol. I love this sand cats though I have never heard of them before but now i have the world seems a little more nicer to me.. the more animals the nicer.

  • sand niggers have sand cats

  • i would so donate to this if i could, i live in sweden unfortunately :( keep up the good work!

  • they remind me of the fence fox

  • Domesticating sand cats wouldn't be worth the effort. We don't really know exactly how cats were first domesticated so it would be hard to replicate the process with sand cats. The aesthetic difference between cats and sand cats is even smaller than the difference between dogs and domestic foxes. People could always just make a new breed of cat that looks like a sand cat but isn't. Sand cats also have special needs that are difficult for people to provide, like a nice, sandy, arid environment.

  • i love the sand cat even though it's very aggressive. it's just so cute:) have there been any reported attacks from a sand cat to a human?

  • @vampireodile No that I know of, small cat species would rather hide.

  • There are plenty of cute animals that would not be happy or healthy living in a home. Considering the overpopulation of adorable house cats that enjoy living with people (there is 1 sleeping on my lap right now!) there is no reason to pursue owning a wild cat. It's selfish and pompous to think you have the right to own a sand cat. With that said, if I saw a sand cat I'd probably so overwhelmed with their cuteness I'd have to be physically held back from trying to pet their puffy puffy cheeks :)

  • Same way for zebras. Zebras are basically striped horses. So why not use them in Africa as a horse? 'cause they're wild animals and not allow men to ride themselves.

  • OMG.

It never ceases to surprise me how many people think you can simply take a wild animal into your home and call it a "pet." Jeebes people, even if you rear a wild animal from birth it's still wild!

Yes, domestic cats and dogs were all wild at one point. But, there's just one crucial point, IT TOOK HUNDREDS OF YEARS TO BREED THEM TO BE THAT WAY. So if you can't afford to wait around a 100 years, please do everyone a favor...LEAVE THE WILD ANIMALS IN THE "WILD!" Thank you. :3

  • Kute Kat.

  • The cubs are the cutest! = 0 . 0 =

  • They also eats snakes in the dersert.

  • ZOMG DEY SO CUTE :D

  • Whaat.. Are you guys exaggerating? All domestic cats were wild at one point, you sure that sand cats are impossible to have as pets?

  • @licklehickle No, we're not.... in reality there's no such thing as a wild cat species being domestic, they will always have their wild instincts and will always have the ability to be dangerous and unpredictable no matter what their size or how much you have "trained" them.

  • @BigCatRescue ROFL history fails your statement. Wild cat just means it hasnt be generational removed long enough. Humans were "WILD" once to... Hell we have a few humans we need to throw back in the wild but we keep them in cages instead so... it's really and matter of money and space.

  • @PrinceOatmeal It's more a matter of what's right and wrong in our eyes, just because we can, should we?? ..... The simple answer is no, especially when we know that there are thousands of big cats living miserable lives in backyard cages, not to mention the escapes, attacks, maulings and deaths caused by people keeping these WILD animals as "pets"

  • @BigCatRescue @PrinceOatmeal Not to mention our shelters are crammed full of domestic kitties in need of adoption! There's *no reason* to take on a wild cat as a pet or to try domesticating them.

  • @PrinceOatmeal No, you can't have an endangered species of cat live in the unnatural habitat of a private home simply because it probably can't inflict deadly harm on you, and it's ridiculously adorable. There are tons of domestic kittens and cats that need homes, sand cats are clearly naturally uninterested in humans.

I am tired of humans feeling they are entitled to what they want without regard to the animals happiness or what is best for the planet. If you love sand cats, donate and visit.

  • @PrinceOatmeal The behavior of domesticated animals is in no way comparable to that of a wild species. They may share certain behaviors, and they may at times become 'conditioned' to the presence of humans (even to the point of expecting food handouts, see "black bear problem in New Jersey" for more info) but they are still wild animals. It would take generations of domestication before they would be as safe as a domesticated animal; but by then, of course, they're no longer 'wild' animals.

  • @BigCatRescue ok i see what you mean, but domestic cats used to be wild cats. lots of domestic cats also have the ability to be dangerous and unpredictable. i guess nothing is really impossible, it just might not be pleasant having a sand cat as a pet i'm assuming.

  • @licklehickle I'm positive it wouldn't be pleasant for you and especially for the sand cat!

  • @licklehickle

There was a documentary on domesticated dogs and wolves. They try to raise a wolf from birth as a domestic dog... it was somewhat obedient. A couple weeks later it started becoming unpredictable and disobedient. I can only imagine both wild cats and dogs being similar when trying to be domesticated.

The same documentary goes on to show wild foxes that have been selectively bred based on behavior... it was very interesting. I think you should look for it, I forget the name.

  • Sand Cat Cam!!!

  • OMG they almost look like normal house cats.

  • Could I get a girl sand cat my it is a kitten and let it grow up with me? Would it still want to be around me? I would love one of these as a pet :)

  • @horsefan24 No it wouldn't these are wild cats and their instincts will always remain no matter what you do, all wild species of cats make terrible pets and we are against the private ownership of them.

  • I didn't even know something like a sandcat exists. This was very informative :) thank you!

  • @littlecrazybubble No probs, thanks for watching! :)

  • Can you have one those as a pet???

  • @misscandy771 In over half of the USA you can own wild cats as so called "pets", obviously we are against the private ownership of these animals because they don't belong in cages in backyards. They also make terrible "pets" that spray everywhere and once mature really don't want to be around people

  • AWWW, there head kinda reminds me of my old tom cat Thunder. How small are they anyway? same as a house cat or smaller ? just wondering that are very pretty cats =)

  • @MyStarwarsThemSongs2 Canyon our male sand cat was 6.5lbs the last time we weighed him, they are generally smaller than domestic cats :)

  • if i where as rich as the kardashian i would own one right now...yup. but I aint.

  • haha the stripes make it look like hes wearing a t shirt

  • Can I have name song at the end of vid plz? They are magnificent. Didn't know about this race until today. I'm surprise that they live in desert area too.

  • that was cool

  • sand cats are so cute...I want one.

  • :( i want a sand cat! but not safe the cuttest and greatest cats are always the one that cant be owned. i have a question could lynx's if raised from kitten be house pet??

  • @MrTaintedYouth The simple answer is that now wild species of cat will ever make a good "pet" they spray they will always have their wild instincts no matter what you do or how well you "train" them they will always have the ability to be dangerous and unpredictable.

  • mofo at 1:36 knows whats up

  • Do sand cats meow?

  • @Purpledragon1766 Yes, although I've never heard our sand cats do this, they are too shy.

  • @BigCatRescue Aww.. They look like regular house cats too.

I really like Big Cat rescue. I can't donate yet, though.. not enough money. I will some time in the future. :)

  • I dislike it cause I can't hear it... Something wrong with the volume.

  • i want one of those emu to come snag his balls... what he gets for where he is

  • I know they won't make good pets, but seeing what their natural diets are. I would love to cage up my five acres for a month and just let the sandcats exterminate the overpopulation of gophers on my property. ^_-

  • @LadyKaliska I bet the sand cats would have fun!

  • @BigCatRescue I would have fun too. I would set up some lawn chairs and sell tickets. Have a beer and watch them maul the damn critters. (sorry, but I'm a gardner, I can't help it)

  • @BigCatRescue I would have fun too. I would set up some lawn chairs and sell tickets. Have a beer and watch them maul the damn critters. (sorry, but I'm a gardener, I can't help it)

  • So adorable. Kinda reminds me of a fox... Looks wise I mean.

  • I'd never even heard of these guys before. My friend and I were wondering the other day who the ancestors of domesticated cats are. Is it known? Might these guys be it? (I always wonder too if we domesticated cats of if they just domesticated themselves because of all the mice in our grain and our joy and rewards when they caught them.)

  • @issyvoo2 I believe the African wild cat and the Jungle cat are the species most closely related to domestic cats....

  • @BigCatRescue Thanks. It's so fascinating to see such similarities between these wild cats -- in appearance and behaviour -- and my house cat.

  • I think it will be good if you use sand rather than soil...He will feel more at home.

  • So not the sorta kitty you can cuddle or stroke ? :P

  • @PunkdRebel Nope, definitely not, Canyon is still wild! :)

  • "Bing" brought me here

  • @dcelis96 Cool story, bro.

  • It's like they're disguised as Fennecs...

  • this is the first i've ever heard and seen a sand cat and they're really cute!!!

  • I LOVE Sand Cats!!!!! They are so cute and amazing!!!!!!!!!!! I am so sad that they are almost gone. :( Save the Sand Cats!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm sure a pet sand cat wouldn't beat me up any more than my little Nero. He's a butthead. : ) He has some sort of biting obsession and chases us around the house, haha. But he still curls up in bed next to me.

  • Someone I know said he had a pet Sand cat. Now, I haven't seen it personally, and he said they found it on the side of the road or something. What should I do? I live in central Arizona, by the way...

  • @chickenpoodle009 You need to see if it is a sand cat or just a domestic cat that looks similar to a sand cat...

  • are these type of cats sexually compatible with domestic house breeds?

  • @Jeruwalter We have no idea, we do not breed at Big Cat Rescue. We don't agree with the breeding of hybrid cats either.

  • We think one of are cats is haf sand cat =D

  • I have to be honest I had never even heard of a Sand Cat and did'nt know they existed ! They are simply adorable, not sure my two cats would think so though :-)

  • Can sand cats be house pets?

  • @Critique808 No, no wild cat species ever make suitable "pets", no matter how young you get them and what you do to discipline/train, they will always have their wild instincts and will always be dangerous and unpredictable

  • @Critique808 I doubt it. They're probably a lot more fierce than they look.

  • The dude at 1:36 is funny.

  • I didn't know that there was a sand cat until now...

  • just one word for sand cats: BEAUTIFUL!

  • "believe it or not the sand cat's very important" so are all animals, most people today dont give a fuck. :(

  • i never herd of a sand cat until now.... "."

    there so cool.

  • looks like a normal cat to me...

  • @TheDjordje343 With the attitude of a tiger!

  • No voice? Or is it just me unable to hear your sound.

(I heard the music at the start, so can't be the volume control.)

  • @L3G3nD0001 It played fine for me ??

  • Thank you for the information!!! Do you mind if I use it for My science project? I chose the Sand cat as my endangered animal!! Cats rule , You Rule. Liked Subbed and Faved :D Sand cats are Friggin CUTE!!!!

  • @Ucatty2 Nope, go for it, thanks for subbing etc... :)

  • I must ask, he's listed as a "Desert Storm Refugee..." What is the story behind that?

  • @jaggertone Canyon is the offspring of wild caught sand cats captured before operation desert storm began. The wild sand cats were captured to ensure the species survived, we agreed to provide Canyon with a permanent home.

  • Very informative and interesting.

  • I remember seeing a sand cat in a zoo when I was very little, I'm surprised the zoo was allowed to keep one to be honest but on a selfish note it did mean I got to see one. Wild cats are awesome.

  • So Cute!

  • How many Sand Cats have been born in captivity? I have NEVER heard of a Sand Cat, so I am very curious! One day I hope to be able to be apart of your wonderful organization or one very similar to help preserve endangered species! It breaks my heart that many species of animals are so endangered! One of the many reasons WHY I DESPISE poachers!! You guys are wonderful, keep up your fantastic work!

    -Cynthia

  • Can you keep them as pets?

  • @LaurellaAce No, no wild species of cat will ever make a good "pet" despite the size they are still very much wild and dangerous!

  • @LaurellaAce You should read Big Cat Rescue's philosophy on that. Almost all wild cats would make terrible pets, anyway :P

  • is ti just me or when the guy is talking, its muted...

  • just out of curiosity could this species interbreed with a regular domesticated cat?

  • @gfriklmm8 I'm sure it's possible....our sand cats would rather attack a domestic cat than mate with it however.

  • @BigCatRescue would they live in ruins ? and do they have urine problems [ crystals ] ?

  • @lesterclaypool1 I'm sure they may live in ruins if there were no other options, i'm unsure about your urine question, sorry.

  • it's evee

  • they call the Sand cat Felis Margarita because the person that first describe the Sand cat named it after the leader of the expedition ( to the Sahara desert ) Jean Auguste Margarita

  • Canyon is so cute that wish I could hug him...but something tells me if I did I would no longer have a face...lol

  • My house cat is like 2 X bigger than that (He 9 and a half pounds at 10 months)

  • Probably the name was giving by an Spaniard, not by a latino.

  • Sand cats have a wide face... hehe! Cute :D

  • Seriously why would anyone dislike this video. Four people at my end.

  • Do they make good house pets?

  • He reminds me of a fox.

    ---

    Cutesy! :D

  • uh oh, i hope it doesnt cuddle me to death! haha its to cute to be a wild cat

  • looks close to a domestic cat.

  • Sand cats are my favorite. There is no sound for the guy!

  • of all cats caracals are satans favorite, they look so evil

  • If these ittle cats are gone then we end up with a rodent issue which in turn can spread diseases. Humans then will panic forcing to use poison and other harmful means to rid the rodents which in turn the poison will start affecting other organisms, inlcuding ourselves. If we continue like this then say hello to the Apocolypse.

  • how sad to see them in captivity...

  • @Cernunnas Don't be silly now. Big Cat Rescue is not a Zoo or anything like that.

  • You have cat sand, and then you have the Sand Cat.

  • These cats are probably most mistaken for pets.

They look small enough, and that probably makes people believe they make good pets.

There are all these people on YT, who do videos of cats they own, and their cats are baby leopards and cougars. Baby tigers and servals.

  • @vickiormindyb so if researched well enough and u can provide the right care for the animal and again research is the biggest issue im looking into owning a serval myself. a tiger not a chance. nor a leopard or cougar. a miniature cheetah yeah i can deal with that.

  • @IFIXUR360 I'd urge you to reconsider not only for the well being of the serval and you owning a cat that doesn't want to be a "pet" but because you would be fueling the trade in exotic WILD cats for the "pet" trade something we are trying to put an end to. Please visit our website where you will find all the info you need about why not to own wild cat species, THANKS!

  • What is a sand cat? Ridiculously cute for one. :)

  • Awww Myyyy Gaaaawwwd look at those eyes :P :3 1:14

  • I have an outside cat about the size of Sand Cats. Would a cat that size or a coyote run faster?

  • @messymelon39 I'd say coyote!?

  • @messymelon39 yea longer the legs longer the stride

  • Can you show a video of what they sound like when provoked or protecting themselves? I heard it's a spitting sound.

  • @starcatcher3333 Hi, if you watch our video "funny crazy big cat sounds" you will see the sand cat spit!

  • @BigCatRescue about how many sand cats are left in the wild today?

  • I know there is the Egyptian Mau that was worshipped in Egypt (of course), are there any traces that these Sand Cats worshipped as well?

  • Felis Margarita, Party!

  • so cute i want one i love cats

  • so cute i want one i love cats <3 <3

  • Great cats!

    Great host!

  • Great host! :)

  • How do I get this dude to be my facebook friend

    :)

  • I have seen them in the Algerian Desert. They are very cute.

  • Whatever a sand cat is, I want one.

  • aaww

  • so khute!

  • They're so cute.

We have two in the zoo near where we live. Its so upsetting because you can see they are really unhappy. They tend to just pace backwards and forewards in the enclosure.

  • If bred with a domestic cat, would the product be much different than a regular domestic cat?

I think they would have a little more 'spunk'. However, has this even been tried? Like the Serval-Domestic cat cross-breed, F1,F2,F3,F4,F5,F6 Savannah Cat?

  • @boomjigger I'm not sure if it as been tried...I hope not, breeding wild species of cats with domestic cats shouldn't be done.

  • @BigCatRescue Do they sometimes mate with domestic cats in nature where they live? I read that European wildcats often mate with domestic cats in nature. Does this happen with these cats?

  • @jewelmarkess No I seriously doubt this?

  • @BigCatRescue You doubt it about sand cats or European wildcats? About the latter - google "European wildcat interbreeding" ; articles also mention that it's one of several reasons they are endangered as species; Additionally, there is also a mention in Scottish Wildcat Association about their mating with domestics occasionally creating hybrids and that about 100000 ferals in Scottland are thought to have wildcat blood. It could be that European wildcats is closer to domestics genetically..

  • @jewelmarkess i doubt it happens with sand cats because they are small and very shy. It would be scared of the larger domestic cats, while a european wildcat is about the same size and typically stronger than a domestic cat. It would have no qualms about challenging one to a fight or taking the females as mates.

  • @CatsforAfrica The Sand Cat's natural habitat is true desert lands, which are remote areas from both people and hence domestic cats. So where they live naturally they would not encounter domestic cats, nor any other wild cat species for that matter, as they are the only cat (in those regions) that is adapted to the harsh desert climates.

  • I thought sand cats were hairless.

  • They look like a mix of housecat and fox. :)

  • Q lindo que ele é..^^

  • wow he's only 5 pounds, my domestic cat is nearly 20 pounds lol!

  • weird, kinda looks like a fox.

  • I think you people are amazing! Its wonderful how you rescue them and give them such an amazing habitat! Sand cats are one of my favorites by far! They look almost like foxes! =D

  • Beautiful critters, indeed.

  • felis margarita?does it get drunk on its own DNA?

  • Pretty kitty. ^_^

  • can you get closer to the sand cats because they are so small? like can you pet them? they would be fun to pet =D

  • @wildcats520 Nope! The smaller the cat the more they are scared of people so they act more aggressively or try to intimidate people more often :)

  • Do many people try to keep Sand Cats as pets because they are so small?

  • @Lizbeth224 They're not very common as "pets" they are much harder to purchase compared to say a tiger/cougar/bobcat etc... Plus the small cats are even worse!

  • Scott, you're such a babe.

  • do you have any jaguars in your sanctuary ?

  • @CrysisG Not anymore :(

  • How did you rescue your sand cats?

  • @catlova518 They were bred at a facility from wild sand cats brought back to the USA during operation desert storm in order to protect the species. Our sand cats are part of the SSP (species survival plan) so if needed they can be used for breeding.

  • What would happen if you put them in american deserts

  • @TheCBNtv I'm sure they could survive, but they would be detrimental to native animals.

  • felis margarita looks kinda like a fox xDD

  • super puss!

  • Awww.... a cat that looks like a FOX!!!!!!!!!

  • i dont know shit about this animal but even i know why its called felis margarita, its named by an explorer who named it after the leader of the expedition they were on when it was discovered.

  • i just saw this man on Tv , wanna know why or what channel , just ask.

  • i just saw this man 5 minutes ago at Animal planet , The show called Untamed and uncut :D About a Leopard trapped in a Well made of clay so it was stuck

and i found out Big cat rescue is in India :O

  • @nafaka12 Big Cat Rescue is located in Tampa Florida :)

  • i just saw this man 5 minutes ago at Animal planet , The show called Untamed and uncut :D About a Leopard trapped in a Well made of clay so it was stuck

and i found out Big cat rescue is in India :O

  • I love their eyes! and the fur around their face. Very cool!

  • ARRGG i hate that his voice is only on the Left or Right channel! It hurts my ears!

  • i want a magarita >.<
