  • such a unique and imposing song, gets me every time i hear the opening.

  • My Fav Song :D

  • Northern Ireland is pretty fucked atm...I have a teacher who has been there and she said it was worse even than israel.

  • @EpicFail345 LOL that's fucking bullshit. Your teacher is very ill informed. Why don't you do a bit of your own research instead of listenning to your very obviously stupid teacher.

  • @mofobrofoshoable I have, three terms of research, northern ireland is screwed up in a different way though. Oh and she lived in israel for several years.

  • So this what the fathers of Irish independence achieved? A bunch of ignorant kids arguing on website?

  • You're quite right, it should be spelt "CESSPIT!!"

  • @feltum Uneducated idiot!

  • Always remember as a kid growing up in the 70's, dreading the news, because yet another British soldier had been killed in that sespit that is Northern Ireland!

  • @feltum If you're going to be insulting at least learn how to spell!. What the hell is a "sespit"?.And from what I've seen, other parts of the UK don't exactly seem like paradise either.

  • @feltum well they shouldnt have fucking well been there should they? who created the 'cesspit'?? if it was tooled up german troops on english soil being shot you'd sing a different fucking tune

  • @jaddajn1 I agree with you, Ireland should be unified. But as long as the majority of people in NI wish to remain in the union, there's not a lot our govt can do to bring that about.

  • @feltum Maybe you should have looked closer to home with your concerns as the British government were the ones who created Northern Ireland, stoaked the divisions that the British monarchy archetected, abbeted half a century of discrimination, then used their army as cannon fodder when the flood gates inevitably opened up, making the situation even worse. Arguably the reason the provisionals even existed was because of the British governments decision to deploy their troops.

  • @feltum Hey easy with that bullshit pal, i happen to have grown up here. i'm probably more patriotic than you about being British. Don't knock it when you probably haven't even been here before. idiot.

  • 6 soldados le pusieron no me gusta ¬¬

  • watp uda rule ok

  • @pacifica6937 Don't get too cocky about that...

  • @pacifica6937 Sorry, i was typing really fast, plus i was a bit drunk hahaha

  • The BBC banned this at the time because of the politics. Scaredy-cats.

  • My favorite The police song...

  • It's dark all day and it glows all night,

    factory smoke and acetylene light,

I face the day with my head caved in,

looking like something that the cat brought in

    love that lyric

  • I wonder who you would support if you were a Jew or an Atheist in NI?

  • @Kevinasp depends on your ethnic background. its not the religion its if your irish or ulster scot( descendants of the scotiish who took the land of the natives in the 17th century and who see themselves as British). Hopefully some day the two can settle their differences completely and end this .

  • @Kevinasp that would depend on whether you were a catholic jew/ atheist or a protestant jew/ atheist

  • Comment removed

  • West Belfast should have been nuked,it would have saved us all the horror of 30 years of sectarian terror gangs.Hateful place.

  • @pacifica6937 are you pro catholic or protestant?

  • @P4DDY2K11 I'm a Catholic Unionist-Why do you ask?

  • @pacifica6937 i dont like unionists at all

  • @P4DDY2K11 Then thats whats wrong with the country, airhead bigots like yourself.

  • this is the police best song ever

  • this should be the sound track to james bond

  • It Normally takes me few times to get into a tune but this was world class

  • where was this video shoot done in?

  • @Dave33Grimsby the footage is of Northern Ireland, obviously.

  • A low view count for such a fantastic song and video in my opinion!

  • s-u-p-e-rrrrr!!!!!

  • It's a great video and reflects the time it was a hard time but somehow people pulled through

  • @ninelivecat Yeah, like everything is all rosy in the garden again...it was never rosy, and never will be.

  • @MagnusVideos Well I used to live there in the 70's and it was tough for people I hope it's better now

  • All I want is a room somewhere far away from the cold night air

With one enormous chair.Oh, wouldn't it be loverly ?

  • This video was banned by the BBC

  • Rings ture in life day

  • the police had some fantastic songs out but this one is my favourite the lyrics are so amazing !

  • The Police don't Die,never will be die! Will survive with the rockers around the world

  • great great song and singer, j etais en ireland en 1981, que de souvenir,

  • Those images are from North Ireland? am i right?

  • @shadow0106 Yes, I grew up (and live) there. This video makes me nostalgic.

  • @shadow0106 Don't be cute-it's Northern Ireland,

  • @shadow0106 Northern Ireland yes, that's what this country is called.

  • @mofobrofoshoable I'm deeply sorry to have mistyped the name of Northern Ireland, wasn't my intention, i was typing really fast...

  • Why in every good band's video smb rememer Biber? I'm tired of it!

    Excellent adv for him!))

    Love Police!

  • wuh-oooooo-waa-oooooohhh woahh

  • Dat Guitar Lick.

  • i remember this video on top of the pops but it was on for only a few seconds, it was too political and anti British somehow for the BBC. I was so annoyed. I was 13 years old.

    BBC=British Brainwashing Corperation

  • @flowerpunkchip it wasnt that it was anti british, it was because it was pro irish, the BBC banned loads of pro irish songs by british artists. they had no problem playing anti south african songs though.

  • @greenmustard1966 its not actually pro Irish either. Its about the youth of nothern ireland being fed up with the troubles, which the bbc, being the big bigots that they are, decided was anti gonernment and banned it

  • @maxp303 i was one of the youth growing up in the north of ireland at that time. the point i was trying to make was that the british media ignored/banned anything to do with here eg paul mcCartneys GIVE IRELAND BACK TO THE IRISH but had no problem with FREE NELSON MANDELA stuff.i see your point though. the BBC did give the world val donegan though lol

  • Dear VEVO, the uploading of your videos, are so slow, complained with other videos, that I have the opportunity to going to piss twice in a rush, and the video is still charging at the point that I have selected (the video was setted on play). Felicitations from hdug86989

  • great singer great songwriter thats what its all about

  • oh I loved them so much! what a great song

  • brain wash

  • @dayo1075 This song supports Peace

  • Brilliant band, when you listen to songs like this it reminds you of just how bloody good they were, thanks for posting this wow.

  • min 2:32. The little boy throwing an stone to the back of the armored is very perturbing and shows openly the real stent of the confilct in the Ulster was.

  • @elAntxoa1 that wee guy spitting and throwing a stone at the last bastion of british imperial bullshit is a legend, ireland for the irish

  • Old Times

  • Most of today's music is simply shit. Only a very litte part of it is good. But still not comparable to The Police. The Police is more than good music, they're geniuses!

  • the police and the jam are probably the best three pieces since the hendrix experience

  • all countries invaded by the british look like this

  • @irishjanet so why live in the uk then?

  • BBC tv would not broadcast this video at the time of the single's release ( september 1981)

  • My favourite police song their most powerful song they released why was it banned ? Northern ireland is a lovely place i hope northern ireland troubles are over i hate all these bombs .

  • A massively underrated song that was a vehicle for the voice of those suffering the troubles in N. Ireland

  • Where is the love button?

  • Glad i don't live there, looks like a right shithouse.

  • 3:59 Ardoyne Chapel.

  • @Truimphful "RIP OFF from Gary Newman-Our Friends Electric"

    You're an idiot.

    a) Gary Numan b) Are Friends electric.

  • Comment removed

  • @Truimphful

I highly doubt that. And yes, I'm objective, I love both The Police and Gary Numan.

But I have to thank you for the laugh of the day. It's even funnier when you think about David Bowie claiming Gary Numan ripped off his music and refused to be in the same studio as him. x')

  • @LabYam Think I was drunk that night! Pretty much a load off drivle writing was I.

  • @Truimphful

Oh, stuff like that happens. x')

  • In this song we can appreciate some Cure & Siouxsie influences and with the personal touch of Police we have as a result one of the best songs of them and It is probable the deepest of them; the new wave music!! Best lyrics and melodies in history! All of them direct to your heart and to your mind to think about them; I was born in October, 1981 when this clip was released!

  • 0 dislikes- what does that say?

  • @indiegirl24 It says that no one has clicked the wrong button; sometimes the wrong button is so near to the right one that you can make a mistake! Dislike this deep melody? Is it possible?

  • @BlackSkyThunder I was saying that the song is really good! That's why no-one has clicked dislike. I love the Police!

  • the most powerful song the police have released.

  • The Police is definitly one of the Greatest Band of All time !

I love you Sting, you are one of my favorite voices

I love you Stewart Copeland, One of the best drummer ever

I love you Andy Summers, the legendary guitarist

I mean I love the Police. This is the unique band who has mixed successfuly a lot of genres, and they rocks ! Recently I've downloaded the Reunion Tour's 2008 concert in Tokyo in HD & the 1984 Synchronicity Concert : EXCELLENT, Very impressive Live performance. FUCK BIEBER (:

  • @OoAzot3oO LMAO

  • @

Beiber who and co are complete cack compared to these Gods of music ,i've been listening to these 30years it never ages i wish it was same for me .OoAzot3oO

  • @OoAzot3oO *the best drummer ")

  • @OoAzot3oO you had me until you you said fuck bieber. why is it necessary to bash him here?

  • @OoAzot3oO wat has 'the boy who can't be called' to do with the awesomeness and greatness of the police? fuck you for saing his name!

  • This a g8 song by the police

  • It actually worked..I expected to see 'this video is blocked in your country'

  • @jamrocx Where are you from that would block this?

  • yes 30 years since this..and still better than todays musical crap..

  • @ptchch and what's the miracle? Music doesn't decay, or expire.

  • id. so true...for me this is proof that not time ruined our so called music but our society (such as the media etc,) but don't feel sad there are people who realise our genre of music ofcourse :D everything is revolutionairy ! hopes up and keep listening to the real cultural valuable music greetz from belgium

  • wow 30 years since this...

  • great song!!

  • Of course I meant N. Ireland!!! Hardly Southern...............let's hope with this goverment we don't see the troubles of the 80s return to N. Ireland.

  • @messyblondemid90s i hope so as well let there be peace in northern ireland for good. i hate all this violence

  • Fantastic...

  • another one banned by the beeb.

  • Comment removed

  • @monogirl3 The song wasn't banned by the BBC, only the music video was banned.

The song itself was used as the theme to a televised BBC play in the year of its release.

  • @antster1983 i know, i was referring to the video. there's nothing contentious in the lyrics anyway. i've always wondered why it was banned. this was inner city NI in the 70's and 80's, what's offensive about reality?

  • @monogirl3

I dont want to spend the rest of my life staring down an armalite

I dont want to spend the rest of my days doing what the soldier says

its a protestation about the British army intervention in Northern Ireland and the general Chaos of the 1970s in the uprisings

  • @RalphMarx i only just noticed your reply, 5 months later, sorry!

again, the song wasn't banned - just the music video. the music video isn't controversial enough to justify it's banning though in my opinion. it's not a propaganda piece, there's no commentary, no bias - it's refreshing infact as it just presents life for ordinary people as it was back then. i don't get why the BBC saw fit to censor it.

  • the best song of the band

cause don t sound like your oyher hits

  • @uglydermis The Police were amazing, how were they sellouts? they were always on a major label, they wrote smart pop songs right from the start, a genius band

  • It's very serious song but it's amazing.

  • awesome song, like all of the police's songs

  • @kirezar i would mostly agree but have you heard hungry for you? that's plain shite
