@iibw Founded by Rinaldo Piaggio in 1884, Piaggio initially produced locomotives and railway carriages. During World War I the company focused on producing aircraft.
@52111centrumcz In fact, Avanti is superior in every way - it flies faster and further (also climbs faster, has higher ceiling etc.). Avanti II is even better. All that for less fuel. Impressive.
@52111centrumcz - im sorry, you said you "watched" them - have you actually flown either of them? Have you flown IN either of them? Just curious how you can come to that conclusion from watching a video?
@davydood88 I played it about 5 times I think its 98 g/h. Which sounds about right for two PT6 engines. That makes it 50 g/h each. Usually 60g/h is good so yes that is quite economic. When I heard 19 I jumped out of my seat!!
Thats impossible because that makes two turbo props better than a single 6 cylinder prop plane
I just bought my piece of one..and I am a Beechcraft guy. These planes have been around for a long time ( late 80's-early 90's) as well. King Air can't touch this...apples to oranges.
@roeslerswiss I could be wrong here, but I think it was cost and design delays. Basically, when the Starship came out, it was made of lots of different composite materials, very common on todays aeroplanes. Unfortunately, at the time, the FAA had no idea how to certify the plane, it was very unique, using carbon-fibre etc. Anyway, with the extreme cost of building, and the ridiculously long wait only 53 were built. Anyway, I think Beechcraft also bought them all back too... though I'm not 100%
@LeiKaEr yes,I agree with what you say, because,I think the problem wans´t Beech, nor the design concept.I think the FAA is a way too conservative, instead of giving a small chance to innovative ventures as was the StarSp.
But P180 and the StarSp.are a vast different concepts, the Beech is a rear wing with canards and the P180 is a 2 lifting surface airplane(the canard and the rear wing)and a T neutral lift empennage. the Piaggio has strong Italian style as recognizable as a star in a Mercedez
@roeslerswiss Hahaha, of course roeslerswiss. I did say it 'reminds' me of the StarShip. Not that it is. Your right, both are very different, unique aeroplanes. =D
@roeslerswiss Rathion pulled the plug, they own the rights not to mention they are a big defence contrator that wants a higher profit margin in killing stuff
@roeslerswiss The FAA screwed around with the approval process for the first commercial plane using carbon fiber, taking something like 8 years for Beechcraft to get approval, and demanding changes that caused huge cost increases. By the time it was approved, it was an "old" design
"The Ferrari of the Sky"... a somewhat appropriate name, but I suppose "The Ultra-efficient Ferrari of the Sky" doesn't produce the same effect...*Sigh* Awesome plane, awesome video!
seems like this plane would need to land with high speed because the wings have little surface area and the plane seems tail heavy. Saw a video of a very straight foreward, no crosswind landing of a 180--and the stall horn went off. Pilot even said, "ouch." I dunno...just saying. The design is elegant but safety is important i would hope.
oh it´s much better than the King Air:) the piaggio has a bigger range, she´s quieter, needs less fuel because she´s able to fly higher and reach her target more faster than the king air:)
@schleifi92 youre right about everything but one aspect, it may be quieter from inside for the passengers but there are 2 P180's that operate out of McCarran intl Airport her in las vegas nevada usa, and i can hear this plane at 10,000+ feet overhead at 20+nm's out, but i dont mind though, it is a purely exsquisite sounding aircraft with those 2 pusher props, i love it, PIAGGIO REIGNS SUPREME !
I like the look and the thought behind the design of the Avanti 180. It has a futuristic look to it so I believe it is a step in the right direction. I hope to fly in one someday so feel what it is like to fly.
@b1kerguy ok i dont understand wht you want me to see. Once again ill trust the 40 years of King Air over this........plane. Im sure its a nice prop plane....but a king air is a king air.....and a jet, well we wont even go there.
@beergut111 A King Air is nice but one problem: the interior is designed for little children to fit in, can't stand up straight and the width is too narrow. So a King Air is like an Ford Pinto in term of technology.
@beergut111 why not compare it to a jet? It's faster than a large number of jets in its' class, and significantly more fuel efficient. It's also over 100kts faster than a king air.

@iibw they flew the first successful powered aircraft. Doesn't mean other people and companies weren't designing before

Like the SF 260 Marchetti is the ferrari of sportplanes and design
Like the Caproni Calif a21-s is the ferrari of gliders and design
so I think we can say this piaggio may have the title of ferrari of medium jet planes and design
They are all wonderfull in approach, different, but inovating...and all build in Italy
For the sceptics,..,I'm no Italian,...,and yes I have flown a FS 260 and I own a Calif A21-s glider
This piaggio is the fastest, most silent in and outside and most spacius in it's class
