Also, Dr. Oz really doesn't do a great job explaining the premise of chiropractic. Dr. Gentempo is very helpful. His video is here on youtube, look it up. :)
Here are some chiropractic studies. If the problem is osseous no amount of massage will correct it. A muscle won't relax if one of its attachments is in the wrong position, even if the change is very slight it can cause a lot of discomfort. Chiropractors hire massage therapists so that the adjustment goes more smoothly and the patient is more comfortable.
My issue with chiropractic: Subluxation's block the flow of "Innate Intelligence" (original term) which can be equated to Chi or Qi energy as well as there is no physical definition of vertebral subluxation such as point to a back x-ray and say "this is a subluxation, this is not." The benefits of chiropractic have also never been proven to be better than massage. My dad went to a DC and he got a massage followed by a back pop while I got similar relief from an LMT with no back pops given. Hmm.
As an "evidence-based" MD i am willing to accept chiropractic as a valid treatment if i can get some evidence. Please post some links to studies showing its efficacy... Thank you
@abla7824 Please also request comparisons to massage treatment of back and neck pain. So far chiropractic has not been proven to relieve pain better than massage. Most DCs give a massage or allow machines to do the massage for them then follow that with a back pop. I could design a long term experiment that would separate those variables to determine which one is more likely doing the relieving. Chiropractic in its current state is unscientific and as such will not earn my respect.
Overall, I choose chiropractic care for ailments and get relief. Sure beats going to the conventional care which puts you through myriads of tests to "rule out" this and that ... usually coming up with NOTHING!
i don't have a problem with Dr Oz nor do i have with that chiropractor who seems like a nice guy but the so called medical information presented in this clip is wrong and misleading.
@abla7824 As an MD, Dr. Oz is doing what I do every day as a chiropratic doctor: Teach. "DoctorThe Latin word doctor translates to "teacher". In Dr. Oz, we witness the transformation of a hard core pharmaceutical dispensor to a "Real Doctor". Way to go Dr. Oz. By the way, the pre-requisite entrance requirements for chiropractic school exceeds that of medical school. The curricula for both chiropractic and medical school are very similar, with chiropractic having 500 more classroom hours.
@royns So what is "medicine"? Will it decompress and align the spine, freeing the nervous system so it may provide vital neural information to the tissues of the body? What did you expect Dr. Oz to do? Hide chiropractic from the people? Presently 45,000,000 Americans regularly utilize chiropractic, with 2,000,000 joining them each year. Everyone needs chiropractic care...including you.
Chiropractic is more than back pain and neck pain. Find a real chiropractor and you will find out what Chiropractic is all about and is not just another diagnosis
