The confusion most encounter with Heavy Nova is all the moves are Range-dependent; meaning each ability is governed by how close or far you are from the enemy.

I actually got used to the controls/pace so I envoyed it. You have 2 bars: health & energy. I was lucky I had a 'rapid fire' controller. It allowed me to kick-start my generator. So, like the AI, i could suddently get a spike of energy, get up, & retaliate. Not the best game, but still OK. There is a Hollywood robot fighting movie comming out. Has the X-men Wolverine actor in it.
As a child, I had no sense of what bad games and controls were, so I would keep getting my ass grilled in this game thinking that it was because I sucked at it! I still had a lot of fun playing it though, and a lot of the time I would just sit there and listen to the opening music. Great review Mark!

The Graphic were by far the best the system had to offer, along with the sheer size of the robots, completely exploded my mind... I was used to playing games like River City Ransom, where graphics were sacrificed for gameplay...

Actually, in case no one already knew, the fighting is position-based and not combination based. If you are 50px from your opponent and press kick or punch, that will trigger a different action than if you're 1 or 25px away. Terrible friggen design, but great music!

Epic music on this game. But gameplay itself is just horrible. Too bad the reviewer didnt get to the end boss. The end boss is just a golden colored copy of your robot. The music on the last stage is sick though.

According to the back of the box you're trying to become the "Heavy Nova" the deadliest warrior in the universe. Hell, even the manual isn't really finished. Whoever designed it was very sloppy at his job. But there are some cool hand drawn versions of the DOLLs in the book.
There's a game you must try Classic Game Room guy, if you like giant transforming robots and blowing up other robots, get and review Ranger-X for Genesis, it's absolutely amazing.

2-the game is about robots made by power people (corps ceos, miltary,etc) to see who robot is the best model and earn the title of heavy nova
3-the robots, move very realistic for a game, think of all the math and physics behind getting a robot to funtion like that

If you were really interested in the intricacies of robotic technology, wouldn't you build a robot instead of playing a video game? People play video games to live out their fantasies. Given the choice between Android Assault and playing as a robot who's barely on par with ASIMO, I'll go with Android Assault every time.
Android Assault or Bari Arm is a fun, i own it, but heavy nova tries to be more realistic in how the robot moves, look at how clussmy the robot moves, and in real life all bipedal robot i have seen move clussmy compared to us. But...in time we will perfect the math and technology to make them move better
This game was given to me as a present and I stopped playing, because I couldn't control my guy when my power meter was at zero. Terrible f***ing game.
After this marvelous and unforgettable experience with Mr. Heavy Doll Nova, I strongly recomend you go "watch out for pits" on SWORD OF SODAN!

the only good side of "Heavy Nova" was the 2-player battle but the game was slaggish though and I thought it was going to be like "Street fighter" or "Street of rage" lucky I only rented this

I enjoyed this review of yours.
You get the impression that this game was not finished yet but rushed to production and release.
In Japanese it is difficult to hear the difference between a the 'b' and 'v' sound, hence the error. But the proofreader should have seen these errrors.

I remember renting this game back in the day and thinking the control was awful. It's no where near the worst game ever though. You must have had a pretty good video game life if you've never played anything worse.

I remember purchasing this game with my hard-saved cash(at the tender age of 14 y/o)and being mildly excited by it. What I really should've done, was to get the SEGA Genesis cartridge that I truly coveted:Fighting Masters, a simple yet satisfying 16-bit fighting game that I found strangely addictive!! Hey dude, do a Review of Fighting Masters for the SEGA Genesis/MegaDrive.... you'll probably become a bit enamoured by Fighting Masters after the first 15-minutes of playtime! Retro-tastic!!

i had black hole assault for sega cd, if i could remember it was like whatever, im going to check here on youtube to refreash my memorie, but i remember one cool thing was it had a code to play pong! the robots were sd on the pong part and they hit the ball back and forword like pong!

Epic music on this game. But gameplay itself is just horrible. Too bad the reviewer didnt get to the end boss. The end boss is just a golden colored copy of your robot. The music on the last stage is sick though.

i remember renting this when i was like 12. i dont remember playing the single player but the 2 player fighting seemed to entertain me and my brothers for alittle while. never could figure out how to do "abilities". like you said it seemed to happen at random. after being bored and pissed at it we would just pop sonic 2 back in or something. i might download the rom or something just to check it out again.

God damn. I got this game when I was 11 or so, cause it looked cool in a gaming magazine. It's amazing and unfortunate how long you'll play a shitty game when you're young because you just shelled out $60 for it. The control was so slow and clunky!

According to the back of the box you're trying to become the "Heavy Nova" the deadliest warrior in the universe. Hell, even the manual isn't really finished. Whoever designed it was very sloppy at his job. But there are some cool hand drawn versions of the DOLLs in the book.

i remember this.i watched my player lay there for 10 min only to finally get up and get knocked out for anothr 10 min to get up again for another punch. by that time my genesis was ready for another punch as well. still, i would've beaten the game..right?

1-not a giant robot, until black hole assault
2-the game is about robots made by power people (corps ceos, miltary,etc) to see who robot is the best model and earn the title of heavy nova
3-the robots, move very realistic for a game, think of all the math and physics behind getting a robot to funtion like that
Fans of this game, don't be mad at him, he obviously didn't get the manual for the game from the prevous owner, anyway now you and everyone else now know what the game is about

If you were really interested in the intricacies of robotic technology, wouldn't you build a robot instead of playing a video game? People play video games to live out their fantasies. Given the choice between Android Assault and playing as a robot who's barely on par with ASIMO, I'll go with Android Assault every time.

Android Assault or Bari Arm is a fun, i own it, but heavy nova tries to be more realistic in how the robot moves, look at how clussmy the robot moves, and in real life all bipedal robot i have seen move clussmy compared to us. But...in time we will perfect the math and technology to make them move better
