My main problem here is that the Federal Government has no authority to regulate driving laws. We either need a Constitutional amendment or allow the states to regulate rules like these. That said, I'm not against seat belt laws. Unlike a motorcycle, you often maintain the ability to control the vehicle to some degree if you're in an accident. If you're not wearing a belt you could lose that ability. These laws only apply to public roads too.
I'm all for wearing seat belts. everyone in my car wears a seat belt. The law is completely unconstitutional. It is your right to not wear a seat belt. Not smart, but it is your right. You are not hurting anyone, but yourself. If you have little kids in the car that is a different story.
This is all just an extra level of control. Just another reason to be able to set up more road blocks.
Please be safe, wear a seat belt. But fight unconstitutional legislation like this law whenever you can.
where in the constitution does it give u this right? just curious because i know nowhere or havent heard of such rights. if this right was to exist then, going by ur logic, you have the right to smoke crack, they arent hurting anyone else but themselves right? wrong.. it effects anyone from the people who witness it to your family who suffer through the loss of their loved one. im all for seatbelts but my point it there is no where in the constitution that give u such rights
Ironically, in Kentucky, they force citizens to use seat belts by invoking the police powers of the state, but they don't have a law requiring motorcyclists to wear helmets. Government forcing citizens to obey draconian laws that invade the privacy of the vehicle and divest the individual's rights regarding his own health/safety choices is tyrannical. They should be chasing thieves, murderers and corrupt government officials rather than coercing citizens to give up their health choice rights

All law enforcement Officers and paramedics would rather respond to a personal injury accident to find it's occupants alive with only minor,if any, injuries, rather than a fatality. Any society that sets up interior police checkpoints to make sure that you are "wearing your seatbelt" is far from a free society and it's only going to get worse in the next 15-20 years. Interior police checkpoints will be everywhere and everyday in interior USA within in the next 10-15 years. How sad.

So called "sobriety" checkpoints and "safety" checkpoints will be everyday in the interior USA. How sad for the children that have to grow up in America. The seatbelt law is just a racketeering scheme for government money income. It's no one's business whether I wear a seat belt or not. Bring back natural selection - if you die or get hurt by not wearing your seatbelt or helmet, it's your problem, not the police or the government's. My friend died who was wearing a seatbelt, and the other three people in the crash (who weren't wearing seatbelts) all walked away.
That actually seemed pretty innocuous to me. It is about social engineering, but the objective is to get people to wear seatbelts, which is a worthwhile endeavor.
This is not "at gunpoint" dude. The conflict arises from whether or not you think the government has the right to force you to be as safe as possible or not. Its just like debates over motorcycle and bicycle helmet laws. You're being overdramatic if you think this is an example of tyranny.
Now, if you had paired such rhetoric with a clip of Rodney Kind getting beating to shreds I might see your point.
Police can only do these things because of the implied threat of physical violence. The Rodney King tape shows that this threat is an option of first resort for some police officers. How many people would pull over and stop for a police officer if the worst that could happen was the cop following them around and whining?
Without the threat of force, up to and including lethal force, governments cannot compel, they can only cajole, teach, and implore.
10 years from now, we'll be replacing always wear your seatbelt with always wear your helmet. Those who won't realize how many priviledges we'll lose will feel to "guilty" to stand up next time gov't guidelines force states to either do what the feds say or lose their taxes.

It is the beginning of tyranny. 535 FEDERAL legislators will slowly pour it on hoping we don't
notice. In 30 years we'll be talking about the good
old days when we could eat in our cars, listen to
the radio, drive a stick, NOT WEAR A HELMET.
Somebody's gotta stop this or it never will.
It is about money, and the states shouldn't be
bribed out of money for not enforcing the Federal
