I saw Billy Stewart at the "Purple Penquin" in Charlotte N. C. late in 1969 or early January 1970. Anyway it was right before his untimely death. I don't think that most people realize that Billy was one of the greatest dancers and showmen on stage of all the beach music performers. Billy, although over weight, could still do turns and twists. He was very agile on his feet and quite frankly one of the most under-rated entertainers of the 60's.Billy had a tremendous vocal range & a great dancer.
Billy did an extended live version of this at the old Nixon theater in West Philly with reverb and echo on his voice that was out of sight. I've only heard it a couple of times but I wish I could find it.Thanks for posting this. Damn he could sing!
awesome version - jazzy - with the sax and horn solos - too bad it was done in a cheezy country theme dance show - but the audio is fantastic ! loved it.....
What a great version. No disrespect to Ella or Janis but this one always puts a smile on my face. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...uck Chuck a-chuck-chuck huh! yeah!

Far out the best version of Ghershwin's summertime - the most covered song ever ! Such a shame he died so young.
