Is it true that on a PC running Intel Core i7 980x 6-Core, 12 GB DDR3 RAM, Nvidia Quadro FX5800, and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, that GTA IV can run at more than 240 FPS and in 1080p 3D? This game on such a PC could easily pwn the PS3 version. :D
@skydragon8525 no. In fact, if your gaming, a Quadro FX and a i7 980X will be a very severe bottleneck. Quadro is a WORKSTATION graphics card and don't do well in games at all. Get something like a GTX 580 for gaming and Quadro for 3D Modeling or Video Rendering
Because I have a i5 760 and a GTS 250 from Asus with Darkknight Cooling, but it crashes if I get my videocard's temperature higher then around 50 grades celcius. :/
@TheAndixChannel Thanks for the reply, I appriciate it, but I've found the real problem, I have tested GTA IV with a 8500 GT from my friend, it runned without a single freeze, so I've ordered a EVGA GTX 460 FTW 1GB edition, it will be delivered tomorrow I think. :)
hm strange i cant run gta properly on my machine. It lags like hell and even crashed once. Can anyone spot the problem? My specs are: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz 4Gig Ram, Zotac GeForce 9800 GT 1gig ram, Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (build 7600), 32-bit
@bekhouwe8888 corei5 is 2core+2virtualcore / 4 core=just like qore2quad? someone says i5-750 defeat some of i7 family, because of the turbomode up to 4.0GHz, that mean i5-750 performance just like single pentium4 @16.0Ghz and has some power with i7 @2.0ghz
@YamiNogun You don't know much about cpu's right? Let met explain. The core i5-750 has 4 Cores and no hypertreating. The core i7 has also 4 cores with hypertreating. Thats the difference. And no a pentium 4 @16Ghz is not the same. You cant just add up the corespeeds it doens't work that way. Because of different architecture, socket, cachememory etc etc.
@YamiNogun i5-750 is better, its a true quadcore, a Core2Quad are actually 2 dualcores on one chip. c2quads are EOL. The socket 775 where the core2quads are made from are getting replaced by the new socket 1156 and 1366 for the i3/i5/i7
@YamiNogun i5 750 is better, since it's based on newer and more efficient architecture called Nehalem. Things that make it more efficient are: added SSE 4.2 instructions set, improved both Loop Stream Detector and Macro Fusion Translating, redesigned cache system (now all 4 cores have access to 8MB L3 cache)... These improvements result in ~20% better performance per clock than Wolfdale/Yourkfield cores (E8x00 / Q9xx0) and ~30% better than Conroe/Kentsfield cores (E6xx0 / Q6xx0).
This should easely run gta4, but my fps doesnt get higher than 35 and is avg of 20. WTF?? I first got a core 2 duo @ 3.16, and it runs pretty good on that, but with my new quadcore the fps dropped. WHY
The only real difference is a higher clock speed and hyper threading. Not much difference, very few applications take advantage of hyper threading and they will both overclock very well anyway. Although, it's not like you'll need to overclock either of them, they're both screaming fast at stock.
Remember the i5 does not use tripple channel RAM and using 6GB would remove the benefits of dual channel. go 1 2 4 or 8GB id recommend 4GB of DDR31600
Yeah its stupid that this game doesn't have SLI or Crossfire support, with all the video memory this game uses I would think that would be the first thing they think about when they ported to PC.
Nice video BTW, I'm trying to decide to buy the i5 750 and i7 860 and if HT on i7s makes a difference.
the only thing I don't like about the Core i5, is you HAVE to use a P55 board, and you get less memory slots.
I'd rather future proof myself and just get the Core i7 920, with an X58 mobo, so I can easily put in more ram in the future if I need to, at least I know I have the option to.
MSI N275GTX Twin Frozr OC edition is sweet as hell, its about 2 fps lower than gtx 285 vanilla, but alot cheaper. And with better cooling, so you can OC it even more.
may i ask wht detail level did you test the i5 on??cause i am planning to buy i5 as well and i was wondering wht detail level did you run gta4 on???thanks for posting!
