This is absolutely hands down one of my favorite videos! I still get goosebumps listening to her in the bridge, asking why.... So gorgeous. Thank you for posting!
@mykel77 I'm not sure I disagree that Tori has lost her passion after SW. You didn't find anything on the next 3 records that suited you at all? Yes, there are some HORRIBLE tracks on TBK and AATS, but, still, you can pan gold out of both of those records. And American Doll Posse didn't touch you? I actually like ADP better than most of her records. I know I am one of those superfans that can't get talked out of my love for Tori, and I have tix to 4 shows on this tour. Am nervous for NoH, thou
I have just dropped my jaw on the floor..... I mean WOW! WOW! THAT IS F...AMAZING! never saw that! God, how I LOVE this WOMAN! how I ADMIRE this MUSICIAN!
Is that part in the middle pure improvisation? Meaning, did she just throw it into this performance and the band followed? That would not surprise me of any of them. They're all wickedly talented. Either way, it's ridiculously beautiful.
I have said it time and time again.. even after seeing her live close to 30 times... this performance is so raw and so amazing. To this day it is still my favorite live performance of hers. And I would have to contribute that to that amazing Jazz bridge improv that starts at 4:31... AMAZING! Still gives me chills to this day!
I love her passion! Seeing her live is the best, while her albums are awesome when she performs she really lets loose. The songs she makes are emotional to her and when she sings them she isn't just going through the motions, she is reliving the emotions that she used to create those songs. Prime example is this song which she extended darkly. We need more people like Tori in the music world. People that do it for cathartic reasons more than monetary gain
@kevvie100 i saw her then... and it was scary what she was throwing out there for us. how we chose to accept it was up to us, and ageed that this was the height of her performances, i'm not sure i want to experience her that sad again..
Is it weird I always related this song to sexual abuse by priests in the American Catholic Church? That's what it becomes about ... these kids are "sacrificed" to these "holy" men and no one is punished.
ourlovegotlost I agree, that's what I assumed it was about =) this song totally moved me too, this was one of the first versions of Iieee I heard and it remains my favourite.. the improv/added verse is phenomenal. Proves how brilliant T's vocal range is too!
The middle part is one of the most moving things I've ever heard T sing. It's about her miscarriage. Seems she's talking to God saying.. they took your son so I know you understand how that feels. So then why did you take my daughter from me? (in a nut shell) Absolutely chilling. My take on this at least.
@ourlovegotlost I totally agree. The piano solo/jam into that totally raw, riveting vocal. Amazing. One of my favorite moments in all of Tori's catalog.
Well said ! This has always been a favorite song, although of the 7 or so times I have been to her live show she has only played it twice . So much going on in the song, and the vocals are out in the stratosphere . Killer rendition .
@ourlovegotlost I can't say I understand what it feels to have a miscarriage. But I know how it feels to have people take your own blood. This can never describe my feelings...
i think i saw an interview about this song based on a dream she had about a little boy she followed and had kind of a screaming therapy session (iiiiEEEee!!!) and driving around in circles in a car in a desert. the dream was after her miscarriage.
I love how she can summon up such tremendous, raw, emotions, and then finish up a thrilling, soul-stirring performance with, "Hi everybody, how's it going?"
I would say I love her just as much as I did back then, but if i wanted be honest ans fair I wouid have to admit that her latest stuff like Posse is far less brilliant than the good old Choirgirl... the Posse tour was kick-ass nonetheless, I've been to like a dozen shows in neighbouring countries and every night I was blown away, especially by Santa and Pip... Long live Tori!!!!

Tori screams the long "Why?" at the end of the extra part. The scream fades into silence and no one answers.
If that doesn't make you cry, then nothing will. It's heartbreaking <3

I know we're dying
And there's no sign of a parachute
We scream in cathedrals
Why can't it be beautiful
Why does there gotta be a sacrifice
Gotta be a sacrifice
