Did they win 3 superbike titles in a row and a superstock championship in the same year he won his first superbike championship? That makes 2 #1 plates in two different classes in the AMA. Then move to the WSBK and win the title as a rookie and make rookie of the year! Then move to GP and did better then any other rookies that have been riding the GP classes in 10 years!! A

I'm a Suzuki guy all the way! But I'm a Spies fan all in the same. Doesn't matter what he rides, he still finishes races and wins. Out of all the American riders that have ridden in GP, he is one of the best because he pushes harder then anyone.

And this commercial is all about selling the bike. Nothing else. Just wish Suzuki did something like this to help sales.

Ben is very modest and very talented, I reckon his move into Yamaha was bad timing in terms of his chances of winning at Indy. He was on pole in Indy in 2010 on a Tech 3, but obviously being a non-works bike, overtaken by Pedrosa. Now on a works Yamaha, Stoner and Honda are now the main force with their Repsol fuel and powerful engines. Hopefully the 1000cc bikes that Ben is used to riding in WSBKs will suit him more. @highspeedhamish I´ve also had the R1 once. But that´s before I learned how to ride it. Now I´m racing 600SST instead. But listening to those who actually CAN ride it and races the superbike series, The R1 lost the edge from 08-09. They became to heavy to be fast.

And the reason it sells so well, it´s just because a bunch of stupid posers wants to brag about it outside the local café.. It still has street cred, but then what? Today, its behind the ZX, CBR and def. the BMW.

I'd believe Ben Spies could out ride most any track day group. Did they all have slightly older R1s? What's Yamaha saying, the 2012 R1 kills all previous R1s, time to trade up? More likely, Spies is a better rider, and could have done what he did on a 1998 CBR900RR just as easily.

Notice how even Spies could only lean so far at points. OE tires Japanese bike tires are mediocre!
