  • i play similar style, very jazz oriented

  • Buy an American standard, play the shit out of it for the rest of your life and don't sell it. When your 80, you'll have a relic with a real story.

  • I own a few Custom Shop relics including John Cruz masterbuilt relics and Fender just can't recreate heavy maple fretboard wear like an original guitar..the bodies are very good but you can still tell its not authentic, real vintage paint is brittle and you can pick it away very easily where as a new cust shop recreation is tough and solid. I have seen many original vintage strats and tele's and they have so much more detail and and texture...its a shame they can't get it right. Great guitar.

  • very cool,, are you the one holding it?

  • Fender FTW

  • I would never buy any fender custom shop relic vintage reissue, the way they made it is destroying the instrument quality! And it so expensive that will make you fart all day.. i rather spend my money on the real vintage guitar!

  • I built my own out of a MIM body, An old neck of unknown vintage, EC type TBX and Mid-Boost,

Fender "F" tuners, and new headstock decals (Hobby Shop). I would never "Relic" it, I keep it looking near new. I play OK, but others who have played it, say it has more than enough "MOJO". I wish I could post Slowhand playing it .

  • Way to play it dude!

  • why do you rest the guitar on your left leg O.o

  • buy a $50.00 "Black Body" Fender Stratocaster squier, take an inexpensive rope or heavy string, tie it to your car-truck rear bumper and to guitar necck, . Then slowly drive (25 MPH +) ...drag it about 2 city blocks or so. >Whaylay ! Hey you have the same guitar- you just saved almost $3K ! Killer Relic!

  • you know whats funny older aged guitars sound amazing! this thing sounds like a new guitar, but it looks like blacky. It;s fucking retarded how much they charge for these guitars, better off finding someone who ones a real old school fender and rock out with it!

  • hahaha! yeye good one.

  • That guitar sounds fantastic! So warm!

How did it play? Looks really comphy!

  • Thank you. It was a pleasure to play. I couldnt afford to keep it, but it was very cool to use it to film.

  • i got that same guitar my dad baut it for me for my birthday and i had no idea how much it was worth!

  • do you feel happy being rich?

  • I am happy being rich with health, family and love. All intangible things. However, if you are referring to financially rich, I would love to have more money to ease the burden of mounting bills. The guitar in the video does not belong to me. It's too rich for my bank account.

  • idk man you must be pretty rich to even be able to play this guitar.

  • Wow, I just got recommended this video.

That sound is amazing. Thanks for the video!

You should play some Pavement songs. Look on my page under favorites for a few hehe.

  • yeah, it's a pity u cant play it tho pal

  • Well you sure as hell aren't going to school me. Unlike your profile, I don't hide behind videos of someone else playing guitar.

  • agreed!

  • The G string isn't intonated correctly. It's sharp.

  • i watched a few of them, now do you own the blackie relic or does your company that you work for? i'd be interested to see if there a big perks to working for certain companies like getting huge discounts on incredible guitars such as that one...

  • I originally went in halves with a friend, but sold my share.

  • if you were to say out of all the fender guitars you've ever played is this one the best and if so worth the money that one needs to spend in order to acquire it? like can i get the same feel out of a clapton signature series fender?

  • It's definitely broken in. Plays great and fits like a glove right out of the box, but I think it is more of a show piece. I'd never play out with it. I'd need an armed guard if I did. I have an 81 "The Strat" that plays and sounds (and looks) just as broken in.

  • outside of this pathetic argument that i'll admit i started, i do love that guitar, is there any other custom shop relics you could get your hands on or if possible the Gibson 335 clapton replica that baby is incredible as well... sorry about the squabble...

  • No problem, it's healthy! No relics. I do have a sweet Black Custom Shop Les Paul Custom that has the best blues tone I've ever heard from a solid body. Equally, I have a 335 that plays and sounds amazing. They all do, but like most guitarists, when you own it --the guitar takes on more personal mojo. They are both in some of my other videos.

  • you don't deserve to play that guitar dude your playing style is totally off for what that strat is designed for, you sound more of a metal man, go get a gibson les paul or better yet stick to ibanez, this guitar was made for one thing BLUES....

  • If Blues is so hard to play, how come there are so many adolescents that can play it? There's more to life than just the pentatonic scale, learn it and move on to something more creative! The truth is I can play the blues like I invented it. I wasn't trying to play bluesy, or sound like Clapton for this video. I wouldn't use an Ibanez as a boat paddle. Thanks for stopping by, though.

  • listen man i'm not out to start a fight even though with my last post it probably came off that way, i understand why you played your own song but please don't diss the blues, who gives if many can play it or its "easiness" if it was easy and not "creative" then guys like SRV or Clapton wouldn't be as huge as they or even guys like the Three Kings and John Lee Hooker, etc would not be as famous as they are, no matter what style you play regardless of ease there is always a chance for creativity

  • All great players. I love them. My comment was more in retaliation, meant to ruffle your feathers a little bit. I'm from Chicago, and cut my teeth playing the blues in downtown clubs starting as early as 15. I still play the blues in a band, do a solo acoustic show and host an open mic.

  • mmm

  • it wud be nice to hear some blues from a blackie replica. u may not be allowed to play note-for-note clapton songs, but there's no problem playing his style... if u can. what u did play is a poor substitution. technically interesting, but pretty shit sounding, imho

  • I am having a difficult time appreciating the guitar playing here...is it just me?

  • bet that bitch is pricey

  • So beautifull

  • OH oops sorry i didn't know that are you aloud to play licks?

  • Google "youtube guitar video pulled"

  • ohh thats not good

  • i did and it brought me back to this vid

  • beautiful guitar man , i would love to hear some eric clapton covers on that thing.

  • Thanks. I plays like a dream! As far as the Clapton covers, I didn't want to post anything that might be copyright infringement, so I used one of my songs. Not very Claptonesque, but it does demonstrate the playability up and down that most-awesome aged neck!!!

  • it doesn't matter that much if you put covers online people do it all the time

  • Yeah, but if you're in the public eye with a commercially related product you get pulled.

  • beautiful guitar but, learn how to use it...

  • If you're suggesting that I learn to play like you do on your video's, I'd rather hang myself... ;D

  • look how played in that fingerboard is now thats what i like to see!

  • Interesting phrases...

  • That's awesome. Thanks. I do try to keep it interesting!

  • not sure if that was a compliment...

  • define interesting

  • Not very Clapton-esque...

  • Nice job, man. I noticed you never used the bridge pickup. How does that sound?

  • I like a lower end, so I never use the bridge on a single coil guitar. It's just a personal preference. The bridge pickup is bright. I can roll back the tone and mud it down a touch, but then the other selections are too low for me. I'm sure it's up to par with strat players that like the bridge pick up sound.

  • Man, rockin guitar of course, your clapton skills could use a few serious years to get you out of the box, but the guitar review was good.

  • Exactly what box are you referring to? I thought a visit to your posted videos might offer some valuable insight to this "box" plague, but I am left with less than I had to begin with.

  • sorry mark, einsteinian has a point... its blackie, so u should be playing clapton, or at last SOME kind of blues. only clapton fans will buy this guitar, and i doubt many of us are impressed by what u were playing. u may be technically accomplished, but that sounded shit to me. sorry

  • Clapton's lead guitar work up until the unplugged album is very heavy with lots of gain. While I can play the majority of his songs note for note, the quick solo I played for this video was never intended to sound like him. Clapton's use of major and minor phrasing inspired me to do the same here. His movement up and down the fretboard is also inspiring, and without copying him, I wanted to show that this guitar is very playable. Sorry to let you down, but it's me playing a Blackie, not Eric.

  • so the objective of this review was (if i understand u correctly) either demonstrate that a fender custom shop strat is "playable" (which cud well be the stupidest thing i've ever heard), or alternatively, to show off ur own style, rather than the style of the artist who has inspired people to buy this guitar in the first place. being honest buddy, i'm just finding it a little difficult to see where ur coming from.

  • This was an amatuer film, the first we ever made, wrapped up in less than an hour. I'm not trying to sell the guitar, and I'm not trying to be Clapton. We put it up on YouTube for fun. So far it has been fun. Even talking to you ;'D

  • tru that. where wud we be if people didn't take an interest? in general i like ur playing style, and what clips of your lessons i've seen, they appeared to me to be instructive and friendly. i just had a bit of trouble seeing the point of this particular vid. great to talk to u buddy. best of luck with the teaching programs.

  • Right on! Thanks.

  • The strats okay I guess, but my Squire has a humbucker so, yeah, beat that Eric.

  • nice guitar man

  • suena la raja la guitarra

  • u know thers a jimi hendrix proto type thats a copey of his one used at montaray pop fest it so nice and stevie ray vaughn owned the proto type number 2 hendrix right handed guitar and this other dude owned the first copye

..... oooo dident know that did u

  • one more time.

  • Here's the top 8 most valuable as written in the May 2005 issue of GW.

    1.) Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock 1968 Strat $5,000,000

    2.) Paul McCartney's Hofner Bass $3,500,000

    3.) Jimmy Page's #1 1958 LP $1,900,000

    4.) Jimmy Page's ES-1275 $1,500,000

    5-tie.) Eric Clapton's "Blackie" (Strat) $1,000,000+

    5-tie.) Eddie Van Halen's "Frankenstein" $1,000,000-priceless

    5-tie.) David Gilmore's #0001 Strat $1,000,000-priceless

    8.) Stevie Ray Vaughn's No. 1 Strat $600,000+

  • Sweet List!

  • very nice guitar, too bad you couldnt afford the actual one =D

  • The bank wouldn't give me the loan. Their bad.

  • hahaha

  • Blackie is the most expensive guitar signed by ONE artist in the world. There was another stratocaster signed by many artists that sold for a little more.

  • blackie was on the world record for the most valuable and expensive guitar in the world!!

  • I think it still is. Nearly 1 million dollars at a Christie's Auction in New York.

  • Yeah, I saw it on the Guinness world record book.

  • That may be true but the Hendrix Woodstock Strat sold for over a million dollars in the early 90's. It's now owned by Paul Allen, formerly of Microsoft, who purchased the guitar for an undisclosed amount of money a few years ago. An offer they couldn't refuse?

  • Very sweet guitar ..by the way.. Played hard I can see... God love ya...

  • Sweeeet! Thanks for stoping by.

  • So does his ... it aint inserted....

  • mine has a whammy bar

  • Using a whammy bar on a Clapton strat might be really bad for the guitar. It has 5 springs going from the bridge to the claw to allow the guitar to stay in tune longer while doing bends. You might actually break the whammy bar in half due to the tension.

  • Dont scratch mine

  • how come my fingertips turn black after i play for a while. is it the strings, is that normal? i been using fender strings.

PS could anyone recommend really good stings to use, thanks (im new to giutar playing btw)

  • How old are the strings? After a while they corrode, and will turn black. You can use Fast Fret or String Ease to wipe your strings down every time you play. This will keep them clean, and they will last longer. The fingerboard below the strings may need a good cleaning, too.

  • strings are about a month old. maybe from not wiping down the neck after playing?

Do coated strings have a bad sound?

  • Yeah, a month is pretty old.

The coated strings I've tried have a duller sound than traditional steel or nickel strings.

  • wow, i had the original strings on for like 10 months, lol

i just bought the guitar about a year ago, been playing drums for the past 30 years. i figured its time to learn another instument. guitar i can play quiet, late at night if i feel like it, drums is another story.

  • Do you share your guitar with anyone else? I've noticed my fingers get dirty after I play after someone else. It could be their chemical balance mixed with the strings, then your chemical balance is causing the strings to break down quicker.

I've found that most string brands are all the same. Unless you prefer coated strings, which I do not. So, I use the cheapest strings I can buy. Recently I bought the D'Addario bulk pack with 25 sets of strings from Musicians Friend.

  • what is wrong with the freetboard? is it dirty or something is wrong with the lacquer? is it always like that on maple freetboards?

  • It's is intentionally aged to be an exact replica of one of Eric Clapton's Stratocasters.

  • how come he has 5 springs installed. 3 or 5 better??

  • Clapton often blocked off his tremolo. By using 5 springs, the bridge stays tight to the body and will not lift while strings are bent. 3 would be the best choice if he were using the tremolo.

  • my strat has 3 springs on the back of it but when i use the tremolo bar i cant get the bridge to go back down all the way unless i push it down. i was wondering if maybe the springs arent tight enough or maybe i need to install more. what would i do for this not to happen?

    please reply!!

  • It could be that your springs are older and not retracting. If you take the back plate off of your guitar you'll see a claw that the springs attach to. The claw has two screws that you can tighten to add tension to the springs. Try that, and if your tremolo bridge still doesn't settle, you definitely know you need new springs. Your local music store should have them in stock, if not run a search for tremolo springs on musicians friend. You can get a set of 5 for under $15 USD.

  • ok thanks!!

  • The reason for using 5 springs instead of three is to offset the additional tension from using higher than stock guage strings. For example SRV had 5 springs because he used 11s. When I installed 11's on my strat, it pulled the bridge way up and then it became apparent to me why more than 3 springs are needed. 5 springs also looks way cooler than 3 :)

  • 11's? I have never heard of SRV using 11's! Usually it is 12 or 13's...

  • Clapton doesn't go above 10s, so it really isn't higher than stock. and besides, since the trem is blocked, the springs aren't taking any tension anyway. oh, and btw, srv played 13s. and u can get away with 3 springs if ur playing 11s on a strat.

  • Sorry I mis-informed. I use staggered ernie balls and the E string is a 52 guage which is one of the highest guages you can get. SRV used a similar guage but since strings are advertised by the small E string I said 11's not realizing that my big E was the fat one. Yea you MIGHT be able to get away with the 11's but my EAD's are 52, 42, 30 so I had to get 2 more springs.

  • clapton is god not gay cunt face

  • yes that explains the children...

  • claptons guitar deserves someone to demo who can play! dick

  • Pete Townshed, George Harrison and Steve Winwood

  • Nice to see a Blackie repro, but what was the reason for this video? The production quality is horrible....first time to use a zoom lens, huh?

  • actually he bought 6 and created blackie from 3 cause he gave the other 3 to some of his friends 1 including pete townshed from the band THE WHO. i could be wrong tho

  • cool historic background!

  • y thank you

  • the other two went to his great mate, the late George Harrison, and to Stevie Winwood. Bought the six of them dead cheap ($100 each?) when he found them lying in the back of a guitar shop. I think the shop was in the southern USA.

  • I'm buying one next week..:-)

    1700 euros :p

  • nice job

  • Ill tell you why you have to relic it. Since if you dont its a black american strat with upgraded pups and possibly tuners. Theres only like 250 made so its also a collectors item dumbasses.

  • Yeah, I guess you have to be a HUGE Clapton fan that having this replica would be absolutely necessary. Only Fender (maybe Gibson) has the kind of money and resources to keep manufacturing such replicas. Others include Limited Edition Rory Gallagher, SRV, and Jeff Beck replica strats and tele. Yipes!

  • ahm excuse me, how much will it cost me to have that?

  • theyre allready sold out so it will be expensive getting one....

  • If clapton had smeared a big turd on it , would they have replicated that too?

  • Why would Clapton smear a turd on his favourite guitar?

  • Mr B the point Iam making is, its silly replicating all the wear and tear on this guitar. I mean All the farnish wear - come on I cant see the sense in that. Just the original build would be fine

  • I have Juan and Paulito Fender Master made Guitar from Mexico and It's just fine for me. These guys spared the crappy looking neck and put the cigs in an ashtray so in only cost $250. You have to get REALLY close to read Mexico on it.24,000 dollars, I saved 23,000 and change. Now I can buy a good amp and new p/u's if I want. These are for poor lil rich boys w/o talent.

  • sounds like shit

  • if it looks like crap why did the origonal go for close to 1 mill. at auction?

  • because it was played and made by a guitar god. Duh, dumbass. A beat up new one isnt worth shit to anyone with a brain that isnt an avid clapton addict. IT STILL LOOKS LIKE CRAP. If I made a copy of hendrix's guitar and beat the hell out of it,

  • Right... like I am going to pay big bucks to have a guitar that has a cigarette burn, worn finish, scars, dents and scratches.

I don't care if it's the replica, looks like crap.

  • don't like stratocaster...

  • How much is it? I would love to test it :)

  • Amazing!

  • this guy does some weird runs!

  • waww fair play , mustve taken them ages to replicate all those details

  • what the fuck, its a replica you fool

  • It was built by john ENGLISH...not John England you dork

  • What a wonderful guitar, what a terrible tone, what an annoying playing style.

  • One of the most oddest runs I have ever...ever heard.

Jeez man... it's Blackie!!! At least play Clapton style when showing this off.... .

  • I agree with u...

  • and me with you...

  • 51 years old and still sounds amazing.

  • Why play a guitar like that if you're going to use distortion beyond all tonal recognition? BTW, I'll painstakingly destroy my guitars myself. Why pay Fender Musical Instruments to do it for me?

    i

  • i wana fly like an eagle.. to the sea.. fly like an eagle.. let my.....

  • if I recall, it was used to record Wonderful Tonight, it's the song my wife and I danced to at our wedding

  • Your type would. Want a quality guitar? Buy Fender for tens of thousands of dollars. Funny, my customers over the decades prefer mine. Many people you have listened to. How do you make your living? Shoveling said shit?

  • I agree with you. I know to each is own...but dont talk about my Stratocaster!

  • You must have been ecstatic (spelling?) when you got that guitar. I got pretty excited just from watching you show it off I can't imagine how you must feel about it!

  • obviously nanolord13 is new to the world of guitars lol

  • tahst the same guitar i have a black and white straocaster but mine aint customized like tha and not as much.. lol

  • the fretboard dosent look like the custom shop blackie

  • They slightly differ depending on the Custom Shop builders interpretation.

  • I owned a few, for resale purposes. Fender never had the guitar in hand to replicate. Just photos. They are decent but not the cat's pajamas! I can build a better Strat. I prefer a rosewood 59 through 63 neck. The rest is academic. In my shop anyway. Fender has not even come close to what they made in that period, or even the 80s Japanese stuff! Peace

  • What do you mean "interpretation"? Either you can DUPLICATE it or not. Who the hell would pay that kind of money for some blokes "interpretation". I want perfection! And you better swallow if I am paying 24 grand.

  • didn't mean to be harsh bro. maybe its the mic.

  • No prob. We used the built in mic on the camera, so there's a little added distortion to what I normally use.

  • The guitar is sweet. But you're killing me with the terrible tone, dude. Like some crappy dist pedal from your first year of playing.

  • Peavey Delta Blues 115, all tube. No pedals, gain up to about 6. You're the first to complain about the tone, but I'll give you your opinion. I personally love it. Not too heavy, but with a bit of bite.

  • Awesome guitar: built from 3 other '57 Stratocasters and used from 1973-85. 'Brownie' was a '56 model used on 'Layla' but as a backup from that point...

(what amplifier are you using with it?)

  • Man, I tried to reply last week but YouTube was down. That is an all tube Peavey Delta Blues 115.

  • Awesome guitar: built from 3 other '57 Stratocasters and used from 1973-85. 'Brownie' was a '56 model used on 'Layla' but as a backup from that point...

What amplifier are you using with it?

  • NiCE!!!

    The Blackie($959,500) guitar replica.

Priced at $24k... it is still a gotta have piece of collection.

I wonder if Clapton have this one in exchange of his real one. :)

  • be quiet, your parents are trying to sleep in the next room

  • Are the frets vintage size or jumbo?

  • Didnt Clapton purchase the parts in 1970 in, was it Nashville or Memphis? I think he had brownie before that, but I cant swear to it... Whatever, still a beautiful axe.

  • Thanks, I tried to reply to this earlier but it didn't take. The official word from Fender Custom Shop and Guitar Center is this was pieced together in the late 60's.

  • i heard they fetch 24,000 dollars.

  • Thats the list price. This one is up for auction on eBay, item number 280060295973.

  • How does the neck feel?

  • Very smooth and broken in. Like I've been playing it for the last 30 years or more.

  • He could have played a bit more bluesy.. since it was a clapton strat!

  • Sorry, I'm not Clapton, just inspired by him and several other greats. But I have to ask, pentatonic, 1-4-5 progression, 9th & 11th chords... What's not bluesy about that?

  • exactly what i was thinking!

  • he first played it @ the rainbow concert right?

  • I'm not sure. That may have been the first recording it was used on, but Eric had performed with Blackie since the late 60's.

  • beatuy

  • Many thanks!
