He's not outing Anderson Cooper because Cooper isn't exactly in the closet. Cooper is taking the "I wouldn't make an announcement if I were straight so why would I announce that I am gay?" approach. Thirty years ago that would have been a cop-out, today it could be viewed as journalistic detachment.
The only reason anyone cares if he's gay or straight is because he's handsome and doesn't look like an ad for tweezers and make-up. Notice how no ones speculates on Jim Cantore now that he's older?
