My first SW was a radio Shack kit for a regenerative general overage receiver. Then I got the RS DX160 When locking to upgrade that I discover I could buy an Amateur radio XCVR withe general coverage receiver for not muck more money. Thar prodded me to get licensed. I bought an inexpensive(cheap) pocket SW RCVR, but that was a waste of money. Off to the side I see a bunch of old Zeniths.

@gomektampa That was available on the prewar sets. The wavemagnet on this radio is the oval-shaped item on the inside lid.

It does share the shortwavemagnet used in the prewar 7G605.

You flipped the switch and it fired right up? Or did you have it on already so the tubes were warmed up?

It was on battery, so the 1.5 tubes started immediately without the rectifier.

It's all a question of popularity. In 1985, they were still plentiful and didn't garner much attention. Then a new generation of enthusiasts got wind of them about ten years later. That's when the prices started escalating....
