I think u mean Bandar PAHLAVI. Do not 4get that it was Reza Shah who modernised Bandar Pahlavi by buliding 2 modern bridges more than 70 yrs ago which would open up to allow ships to move across. Before Pahlavi Dynasty ur city was extremely poor.

Bandar Pahlavi, and you are right Shah made the city very dynamic and beautiful, but the birth name of city is Anzali because it was built by "Anzal khan" many years ago and

"Ghazan khan" made the part witch now we call Ghazian.

what a bullsh** comment. befor pahlave dynasty the whole IRAN was poor. if you do your research correct, you will find out that the city was named anzali from the day it was founded. but only iranin kings were in such lack of respect for history that they changed the name of cities and country as they pleased. i wonder when some iranians will stop woreshipping the dead kings?

we1ove: dear friend That's true what Joshtodd said,not only this city but all over Iran was poor before Pahlavi dynasty, if U research U will find out sickness and death of children was all over Iran and most of people were an alphabet even Reza Shah himself, but he started building schools and university and his son Mohammad Reza made reading and writhing a must for Iranian even punished those whom didn't send there children to school, Just research and find out yourself about Sepah Danesh.

eleusha:it is not that i doubt your or joshtodds statement about iran pre pahlavi.i just like to draw peoples attention to the fact that pahlavi dynasty did not only do good things for Iran. pahlavi dynasty may even be the reason for the misserable situation in Iran today. i know that iranians living in exile tend to glorify the old days but we allso need to se the truth about the pahlavi dynasty. specialy mohamad reza shah,who only came to power due to the CIA cupe against mossadegh.best regard
