i'm glad they copied the macbook idea and added a few extras to it. the mbp is a sexy notebook. now i can get a windows laptop without the apple price. windows 7 is a great os. i have a 4 and a half year old hp dv6426us that runs windows 7 very smooth, quick and snappy. i was surprise that its even able to handle the aero. if hp gets everything right then this will be a worthy buy.

@ostdrengen In my previous note I was referring to the HP ENVY 15. There are definitely some differences, between the ENVY 13 and ENVY 15. They are both offer a variety of Intel processors, slice battery options and dedicated premium service. The main difference between the two are the size and weight, the ENVY 13 is definitively for ultra-mobile users, while the ENVY 15 is for users who want to be mobile, but also want an additional boost in performance and screen real estate.

It's dumb that this is actually $100 cheaper than the 13" version. I don't need all the high stats and would just prefer a smaller/cheaper version with this design, but nooo the 13" is $1500. I'm very disappointed with hp. They make high their highest performance laptop for people that like to sit in coffee shops and search the web. I know optical disc drive are not the future, but this is not the future and I actually need an optical drive on the go. Since Americans are so fat and week having the extra half a pound disc drive to carry around is just to much. Then you'll go to mcdonalds and eat a 2 pounds worth of junk food. Anyways, i think hp sacrificed the optical drive for aesthetic purposes which voodoo computers are well known for, since this laptop is the replacement for the old voodoo envy's. I personally don't need an optical drive built in, so I'm happy to have the extra performance and cooling capacity. I'll probably use an external drive when I need it but I'm glad to be able to just leave that home. Wish it had more ports though...

Well, the battery comes off, the screen is dark, I don't know how to record a video that isn't purple, the volume isn't very loud, it's hot, the cap lock is too easy to hit -- but other than that. :-(

for $1100 can get the same specs from HP itself dv6t Quad Edition with an extra internal optical drive. The only reason this machine is expensive is the design that trying to look like a MAC.

I checked this machine in store and I can say it designed badly. Also read the reviews on its website.

I guess ENVY will be a failure and HP will learn a lot from it.

as a designer, im forced to stick to macs for compatibility issues and mac workflow at work, but personally the ENVY is the ONLY performance workhorse at a bargain price for design professionals with an added bonus of a discrete 1GB graphics card if you want to do gaming on the go... thats something the new macbook pros cant do yet... not to mention the superb beats audio system integrated into ENVY

looking at this powerful system, people will be simply stupid to jump straight to a macbook pro especially the all-time pc users. macbook pros dont have the i7 processor yet and the top spec macbook pro 17" with 8gb ram will cost above around $3000 which is insane. this ENVY is a beast in performance, design and portability in all aspects and surely a macbook pro killer if people seriously give it a thought. The "Extended life Battery" should have just been made internal, and there should have been a blu ray/cd/dvd/lightscribe cd drive in it. Also, 15, though tolerable, is not quite big enough for me. I would buy it if it had all the above (even if it made it a tiny bit thicker) and a 17" screen. Also (and this might be asking much) a 1920x1200 screen would have been nice. When are they making a iMac competitor?
