Wow.I just recently raised a starling rescued from evil neighborhood children that where trying to kill it.They have to be feed every hour 12 hours a day.He was released after I toughy it how to get its own food outside. He would fly to me when I whistled. He was a lot of work.Great job a teaching him to talk
This is a great video, thanks! We have tons of Starlings here in Ohio. I'm looking out my window as I type this, and there are 2 trees full of perhaps hundreds of them. I've found baby Blue Jays and Robins over the years, and tried to keep them alive, to no avail (animal control didn't care when I called them). Is it easy to find a baby Starling? And if so, are they easier to keep alive and raise than the aforementioned birds? Just curious. Thanks!
@angus506 Unless this bird was injured and incapable of taking care of itself The bird could be released into the wild and it would very quickly assimilate. You know little of bird intelligence or behavior. Birds are not people either although they do think so sometimes.
had no idea people could raise starlings and teach them to talk, I'm a parrot person but I've never seen it done with a starling, awsome vid.... how did you get it? what part of the world do you live in, I would think here in KY it would be illegal to own local wild birds
Starlings are amazing. I'm scared of the wild ones tho... or rather... I really respect their ability and willingness to defend themselves when they're not happy. I once saved one from my cat and as I was taking it outside to set it free (it was just a bit slobbery, but not hurt) it tore into my hand and ripped chunks of flesh out of me as fast as it could! Such a small little thing and yet, so well armed and TOUGH! I'm sure yours is just lovely tho. How lucky you are to have him in your life!
@TheLassune when you raise birds from chicks, esspecially flocking birds. They get very attached because you are now part of the "flock". I have 3 that ive raised and released and they are still here in the garden they still come down to chat with you and get food :). PS. to the maker of the video, good job my friend he looks like he/she is in great condition. Well done!
evidently very comfortable and relaxed around your company, which says alot, and just makes me wonder where are other great humans like ourselves to give the time and love for these beautiful creatures, love it,god bless, awesome
Does he ever fly too far from you when you take him outside? I have heard of nothing but sad stories from people who take their beloved birds outside. Weewoo is such a cool bird!
I have a lot of shit which has accumulated at the bottom my cuckoo clock, has anyone got any ideas on how to house train this young cuckoo, my wife just Say's stop feeding the dam thing, but I think this his very cruel.
whoa@ this is amazing! I love starlings! Just otloday today a mother starling perched right outside my window and woke me up wtih with her loud ossongsong and I recorded it and was so excited! they are a sign of good fortune I think. I'm sharing this vid with friends!
I rescued a baby sparrow, kinda hoped it was a starling because they are some good talkers.
Nobody thinks of it, because they're an invasive species that have proliferated like rats, but yeah. They're along the lines of the Hill Myna.
While male Budgie parakeets' ability to talk is severely underrated, most people have no idea your run of the mill starling is amongst the clearest speaking birds.
Fantastic! I had NO idea that starlings could talk! I rescued one from my air conditioner duct at work one day! We didn't know what in the world was in there. It was scratching around and we were all freaking out, till I figured out it was a bird. It was so pretty! We managed to guide it toward a window, finally, after it bounced off our heads for a while. LOL. Starlings perch outside my window from time to time, and I always say it's her coming to thank me. :) I know. Far fetched...
Long time in training the bird to talk, the bird became so amored with it's keeper that it won't just fly away. Reminder of that old saying that goes - if you love something set it free, if it comes back it's yours. If it doesn't, hunt it down and eat it. lol. J/k... i LOVE this guy, we have these starlings all over montreal, when they get together and sing it's just incredible. And also the way they fly in unison like super-high-tech-jet-fighters =)
As odd as it may sound, my vet (who treats my dogs) called me and said she had found a baby starling that had almost gotten eaten by a cat, and brought it to me, since I have many birds of various species, and used to breed them. My vet only knows dogs & cats - she doesn't know too much about avian medicine.
I looked up their diet on the internet, & with my experience in raising baby birds, he thrived in my care. He's awesome & a great talker. They are wild & not available in pet stores.
hey is mazuri good... my bird is singing and growing fine but the scales on his feet are raised more than normal the vet said his scales are shedding but im worried it may be hypertekrosis.
Yu know my Kiddo has the same thing with the feet - finally I noticed I could peel them off carefully - just the outer layers of course - but you may be right, see if you can find some pics online and compare
hes a starling they are 100x better talkers than parrots ive had parrots since I was six got one or two to barely talk i have a 4-5 month old starling who I can have simple conversation with
how did you train him to not fly off? i can see that his wings aren't clipped. i also have a starling that i hand fed but have his wings clipped since he's usually on my shoulder when i'm outside.
Be careful, I used to let mine outdoors all the time. Once she was in her cage outdoors (I was cleaning inside so I didnt turn her all the way loose) and I hear some screaming. A sharp shinned hawk was reaching inside her cage and she was trying to bite the hawk. Had she been loose it would have gotten her....no more time outside loose for mine.
I've never seen a smaller bird talking before, though I knew someone with a pet jackdaw that used to shout "gees me kisses" as you as you walked down the road. XD
He is so adorable!!! He sure loves to kiss! How do you keep him from flying around outside, are his wings clipped? or does he know to stay with you? Very cool! thanks for the videos.
moonboots69 you know nothing about a starling that has been raised since she was 3 or 4 days old and has had nothing but a lot of attention and love. I removed your posts because you are a complete fool..
Sorry, I have a pet starling too that talks. He doesn't sound as good as this one, but he does talk! I'm a vet-tech, and mine was dropped to the grass 2 ys ago from a crow's beak. I saw the crow and all kinds of other birds including the starling parents divebombing the crow until he dropped the baby. He fell in the grass, wounded terribly and bleeding from his beak, gasping for air. Suprisingly, he made it through the night. His name is cheep cheep. He says it like "Seep-Seep"!
I have a 5 year old starling,Stanley. He can whistle the entire theme to the Andy Griffith Show, say nite-nite,pretty bird,Peepers(my sparrow),koo-koo bird, birds is magic,Stanny is a good bird, and mimic the phone ringing(FOOLS me all the time),and he can whistle the 5 alien communication notes from Close Encounters of the Third Kind.Oh,and Merry Christmas and Andy Griffith.
This is so funny!! I have a 9 year old talking starling named Smiley! Weewoo had your voice and Smiley has mine....like after sucking helium that is!! hahaha! Just love it!! I want to raise a massive flock of _semi_ domesticated starlings on a large tract of land.
They would have all the bugs they could ever want, a large coop in which to sleep if they wished, and I would train them all to say "Piss off!"
They would serve as a means of greeting trespassers, whom I would be a bit more polite to.
