I am Romanian, I saw this film 3 years ago. After I watched this part four about 10000 times ,it still makes goose bumps on me skin ,and tears in too me eyes
I feel you on that! I am poor black and I may be ugly but I'm here! I know so many black women that have been to hell and back and went back a few more times, myself included and it was only by the grace of God that we are still here! Praise him!
This shows the power of courage. I leap from the inside when I see this clip of the movie!! I only wish that Shug didnt have her in the trunk of the car--that Mary Alice couldve stayed behind!!
Just saw this in my Interpersonal Communication Speech textbook talking about "Speech acts"when Celie cursed Albert. I had to come check the video out, seems like an interesting movie. I should definitely watch it sometime.
This movie is a masterpiece and will be a classic for generations to come. Whoopi and Oprah were excellent in this movie and was definitely worthy of an Oscar. But we know how that works. I have watched this movie about a half of dozen times since it first came out, and I enjoy watching it every time I see.
LAWD!!! When she yanked that dayum knife up outta that ham/turkey/whatever and was fixin to plunge that shyt into his jugular...........WHOOOOOO!!! Sista gal had had E. NOUGH!!! I keep rewinding to 6:15 just to see that part again!!!
The pent up emotion that explodes from 'Celie' in this scene,is like she suddenly took on the mantle of 'His'...and all she do is hold up her FINGERS to stop him DEAD in his track!!!!Powerful stuff inDEED!!
Boy you gone sit here and let this little nappy headed girl curse you out like that. You sitting at the head of your own dinner table and you acting like a waiter.
I heard about that. It's sad that Angelica Huston won the Oscar over her. It was PURE POLITICS!! I'm glad that the Academy has kind of changed a bit. It seems like they vote on merit more than who your father was, which was the case with Angelica.
When Squeak was laughing at Albert being called dead horse shit-I laughed hard as hell, too. It was strange to see Celie have so much venom behind her words. I love it-Celie OWNED Albert!
"Did I ever ask you for anything!?!" "DID I EVER ASK YOU FOR ANYTHING!?! I never asked you for nothing. Not Even you're sorry as* hand in marriage." Love that scene.
- -"Boy, you goin' let this ol' nappy-headed girl cuss you out like that? You sittin' at the head of your own dinner table and actin' like the waiter!" LMBO that iz one funni nigga
ummm...you posted it so EVERYONE can see your comment. duh. We all have a right to reply to comments as well. So I can reply by telling you that your comment was originally funny, but then you showed how much you hate yourself by calling anyone who might be of African descent (presumably that man is considered black in america) a ninja (my words don't have to reflect your ignorance precisely). You don't have to like my reply and you don't have to love yourself or your ppl. It would be nice tho
im not dumb, i know i posted it so everyone can see, i have a right to choose the words i want and how i want to say them...i LOVE who i am... BLACK, EAST INDIAN, WEST INDIAN, and ITALIAN. i dont need any education on the word Digga from you...so it would be nice if you just shut up
"mary agnes, miss mary..who gives a damn. BOY u gon let this little nappy headed gal sit here n cuss u out like that, u sittin at the head of ya own dinner table n u actin like a waiter!" LMAO
@mvp13klb59 it was 11 oscars the most nominations n history only tied with "titanic", "gone with the wind" and "lord of the rings"... guess which 1 of those films was the ONLY 1 not 2 win any oscar...
To those with a good ear, If you hear a bit of the background music in the scene in 7:43 to 7:47, just the few notes, you can see it's an excerpt from the chorus of "What About Love" from the Broadway version of the Colour Purple called :)
it's still so socially relevant...."your poor, your black, your ugly and your a woman, your nothing". those same isms still apply to the world today. really caputures the victimization of not only women but of those who are by society's standards not normal or up to par. really good book and movie. this is one of the only movies made from a book that i thought really captured the essence of the novel, cause most made fro movie books are crap.
This is one of my favorite scenes.when celie leaves Mister, and sofia opens her mouth.celie took control of what she wanted which was her sister and to get from under her deadbeat husband, sofia had to be brought down for her to come up.
One of the greatest films of all time... truly captures a victimized woman in the early 30's and 40's trying to find liberation, not only from rascism that reigned in the south but from her own man who held her back and held her down because his vision of her was that she was nothingand she refused to accept that. Well worth the Pullitzer Prize.
omg i love this movie and this is the best part of the movie.. yall see tha way sophia just comes alive with all this stuff that she's been waiting to say. set in that jail!!!
i hecka love this movie every since the first time i saw it its sad inspirational and had a few funny parts when mister dad be talking at the table but i love this move though my bro and cousin cant stand it
Fuglier? Perhaps they would say the same about you. I would expect more out of a grown marine. Dear lord. Why must we label someone with harsh terms. We are all ugly to someone in the world. Trust me!
No her two children return at the end of the movie..Olivia is her daughter....unless your talking about real life in which case I know nothing about Whoopie.
One of the best movies ever made. Celie & Sophia evolve in different ways but each reach the same ultimate destination: self-empowerment and liberation.
This is one of the best movie that I have ever seen!!! I love this movie and i'm only 17.I LUV this scene!!! ,escaily When Celie BURNED Albert!!! That part was funny!!! LOL!!!
and when U hear Quincy Jones theme to color purple, and THEN listen to Georges Delarue's Movie theme to Our Mother's House that was written in the 1960's. U will say, Hey Quincy u stoled!!!!
To this day, it's hard to believe that Steven Spielberg directed this. It was Spielberg's first movie outside science fiction.
I think that Danny Glover is one of the best African American actors next to Bill Cosby, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Billy Dee Williams, and Lawrence Fishburne and many other great African American actors.
huh??? Spielberg directed Jaws, that wasn't scifi. Duel, that was not scifi, 1941 was not scifi, humm it seems ur wrong. Tina Turner was offered the role, but she went thru shit, and didn't want to relive it all she said.
Sorry to say this but oprah laugh just like madea laugh lol
