@GreaterThan03 Hi mate, thanks! Actually when I took that picture the head was just placed on a shelf, as I was waiting for the cab to arrive. ^__^ Anyway, I don't put anything between the head and the cab, it hasn't given me any problems of overheating - it warms just a little bit.
Hiya, nice vid! I'm looking at getting the exact same amp set up you have here! how do you rate the Harley benton? How much clean volume can you get out of it? i'd imagine its not too much but would it keep up with small jazz group stuff?
@lemop Hi mate! The Harley Benton is surprisingly good. Well, not 'that' surprisingly since it mounts Celestion Vintage 30s (be careful, there's a version with no Celestions that looks the same but is obviously cheaper) and the construction is sturdy. It even looks good. I think that a 5w like this could keep up with very small, very quiet jazz club situations. The clean breaks up soon. It has the PA/Headphone exit with speaker simul. but it excludes the speakers, which is a letdown IMHO.
greeting. Does the head version any difference compare to the combo version tone wise? coz if its no difference im thinking of getting the combo so i wouldnt have to buy the cabinet which will be much cheaper this way
@Orbsee If I'm not mistaken the combo mounts 10" speakers. I bought a cabinet separately (a 2x12 with Celestion Vintage 30) so I think that tonally there's a sensible difference. But it's not the head, it's the speakers. I heard that the combo might sound a little bit boxy and lose some low end compared to the head through a 1x12 or 2x12.
@8ulls3y3 i see.. so if im getting the head i will be able to achieve a wide variety of tone by using different cabinet, so this mean that i will be getting a better tone as well.. right?
@Orbsee Yup, better or just closer to your taste. But it's not the cheapest option obviously. I think you should give the combo a try, maybe you like it the way it is.
what i found out with this amp, is that a breaks up way to easily. Understandably for a 5 watt head, but still, it can't be heard in a band withtout the sound breaking up.
@punkmusicmetal Exactly It sucks just like my triple rectifer. It's soo unbarebly loud I can't use it in my bedroom. No Wait, that's why blackstar made the ht-5. It's for you're bedroom dude, it's not meant to be played with a live

@ SwampAshHSS and every other player out there that always asks will it do mettalica -_- BUY A RANDALL VALVE!!!! Or a peavy valveking you know a HIGH gain amp!!! So tired of seeing people ask will all these diddy amps do mettalica
@lantyboy Yep, but you do realize that it's practice 5 watts tube heads we're talkin' about? BTW, yes, this one is fairly high gain and yes, it handles Metallica quite well (maybe pushed by a pedal for extra-balls). You can nail decently all of that without peeling the fur off your cat or being shot point blank by your neighbour the next time you take out the garbage.
@lantyboy lol . you're one of those, "HI-WATTAGE HI GAIN LOUD LOUD LOUD I DON"T UNDERSTAND DYNAMICS AND PLAY GUITAR AS IF I'M WRITING IN ALL CAPS" peoples arent you?
A randall valve amp? HAHA let me get right one that, next i'll hook up a metal zone pedal and dime the gain. Why would ANYONE willingly buy a randall valve amp when there are many better to be had at their price?
Before you try to mention anything about knowledge with amps, I own all kinds of valve driven amps of varying wattages. High Wattage does NOT mean High Gain. the Valveking is utter shit, btw. If you're going to buy a peavey do yourself a favor and buy a 6505.
how does it compare to the overdrive channel volume, is it pretty balanced volume-wise if you set your overdrive channel to a METALLICA type gain level?
with the two independent volume knobs you can balance quite well clean & od channells. overall volume may be adjusted down a little 'cause clean at 10 is not as loud as od at 10, but still it's ok.
You tell me, that's incredible value for money! They can afford it since HB is Thomann's house brand. These cabs are assembled in far east and the V30s come from huuuge stock orders, so better prices. As far as I know, it sounds really good (deep low end and creamy mids) , and construction is neat and sturdy. Maybe it couldn't stand years of tour abuse like other cabs, but still...
They are loose as f-cking f-ck from factory.. at the same time, take a screwdriver and tighten the screws on the handles etc.. this does a HUGE difference to the sound(Which i didnt count on my self.).
well, I guess so. it lacks a little clean headroom, due to the low wattage, but I think whit a good strat you could nail it, or get close enough. check some other demos with strats around.
to be honest, I don't think you could keep up with a drummer and a bass player easily, unless they all keep it pretty low (or... light). I'd recommend this only for a practice or studio environment.
I used it once in a rehearsal, with a 4x12. I barely heard myself over drums and two other guitars. Aim -at least- for 15w. Tube, of course.
which tube amp do you recommend? i really like this one and its super cheap for the full stack at guitar center its 500 bucks but i want something small and chill i dont want something big just big in sound you know?
I don't know: what kind of music do you play? What sound do you need (vintage crunch, crispy clean, hi gain metal)? I think this one is the most versatile for the lo wattage range, but it's not loud enough to gig. It has the speaker emulated output, but no one buys an half stack to play it thru the mixing board. Egnater Rebel 20, maybe? 600€, but it's a 20w with built in attenuator (down to 1w) and a tone blending feature between el84 and 6l6. or maybe Blackheart BH15H?
Sorry, I never played that. You have to consider the 10" speaker (i have 12" V30) and the different construction. I think it may sound a little more thin than the head with 2x12. Snoop around for some clips. bye!
Ero nella tua stessa situazione, un po' di pazienza e 300 euro saltano fuori. Fra un po' secondo me inizia a saltar fuori anche l'usato, magari qualcuno che cerca maggiore wattaggio.
Hey may I ask why you have the amp sitting on top two pieces of wood, to avoid overheating?? Great playing and sound!

Can you tell if it is possible to use the treble, middle and bass control in the clean channeL???
NIce video !!
blackmorejimi 10 months ago
@blackmorejimi Thanks man! Yes, the eq is shared between the two channels.

@8ulls3y3 Really? Cause in the Blackstar HT-5r there is a "tone" control for clean and EQ only for distortion channel :(

i want to use this to gig, is that realistic?
from the sound clips i have heard, it breaks up a ton when when you get the volume past about 12 o'clock.

Hey man, just a tip from another HB-cab owner:
Open it up and screw those speakers in properly!
They are loose as f-cking f-ck from factory.. at the same time, take a screwdriver and tighten the screws on the handles etc.. this does a HUGE difference to the sound(Which i didnt count on my self.).
The sound should get tight as f-ck after this.
