FUCKING HELL. The Greatest Win of All Time. I remember watching the game live in the living room. I was literally shaking in last 5 minutes. I had produced more sweat during the game, than I would have by running a mile. Then all seemed lost.

But, the Gods smiled upon us my friends. Zaharakis, with unwavering strength withstood fierce tackles and more pressure than any man before him. The ball sailed through the goals as if some supernatural force was controlling it.

Then, as I and the rest of my family stared into the TV, and everything besides this game lost all meaning, the siren sounded.

Never had I been more proud to support Essendon, and never had my support of them been more certain.

The loss in 1990 had been redeemed.

I am a Dons fan and FORMER umpire and I must say that although he was pushed out of the contest, it was done within the rules by the fact it was done with the ball within 5 meters and he also did it whilst keeping his focus on the ball showing that getting the ball was indeed his aim!

The rules of the game actually state in one part that "The player who makes the getting or using the ball in some way his number 1 focus WILL be given every opportunity to do so"

This means that if the ball is within 5 meters and you can see the move to take the opposing player out is done legally within the rules and with getting the ball being the focus of his actions then the umpire will always let it go as that is how the rules tell us to do it!
