  • 60年代スーパー曲、ジャッキー・デ・シャノン■♪NEEDLES&PINS■♬~ジャック・ニッチェでした~なんとも言えぬこの必殺サウンド

  • I read on youtube that Jackie was one of the writers of the song but was left off the credit as a 19 year old. Makes sense to me. She owns this song. No one can render it like she does.

  • @TheScottrocks9

Don't know....But you are correct when you say she owns this song......Who are the Searchers???

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • Funny enough I never heard of Jackie Deshannon before, but now I'm glad I know her music. This is pure soul. It's also the best rendition of this song by any artist. I love this girl.

  • jackie is the best

  • @FlyboyLWB

    Thanks Flyboy

    Hwaj5300

  • interesting video, lol.

kudos to DeShannon for doing the original, but I strongly prefer the Searchers cover.

  • @kcmet79

Only thing to say here ....."to each his own"

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • 1963... going back I was fourteen then, This is like Bob Dylan and is dream, 10000 dollars at the tip of the hat, I would give it gladly if I could go back.

  • @nitropost

Just close your eyes and you can go there

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • JACKIE D FOREVER--sweet babe!! true inspiration to galaxy's infinite might.

  • As awesome today as it was in '63!

  • @Lloydhl

That because good is good .....Always

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • No use mentioning Searchers here. Jackie's talent is much underrated, and will stand the test of time. She's not just a performer, but an Artist... an Original. Once you see her you will never forget it. To those who may not see it this way, pay attention to the details, my friends!

  • @konzwambii

Ther is nothing else to say.....Except thanks

    hwaj5300

  • 50 years from now kids will be discovering jackie deshannon, and they will feel those needles and pins as i did in 63.great singers and good music will never die.lets enjoy the music while we can.

  • @MrEdgarjuan

Than hop on My memory train ride the price is free

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • Every time I hear her version of a song I prefer it to the original. She does them far more feistil. This is the first time I heard this and it is the best - in my opinion, of course.

Nice selection of pictures, especially at 0:25. That is funny in the context of this song, and rang a bell with my own experience of a female with hormonal chaos.

  • @CrankCase08

Hi Crankcase08....I never say definitely However I believe this was the original ,,,, Way before the searchers

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • @hwaj5300 This is indeed the original version. It was released almost 9 months before the Searchers' version.

  • @Oldiesmann

Thanks oldiesmann I was just being nice (if you know what I mean)......I knew this was the original

    Hwaj5300

  • Another Great song,

Great Video to go with this song!!

    Another Great Cha-Cha Dance!!

    Thanks again,

    Cynthia

  • Yes, sadly some people - of all colors - think only black people have "soul" or can sing blues. A myth that will probably never completely disappear.

  • @Arf1223

SOUL.......To me .....Make me believe they really feel what they are saying

    Black, White doesn't matter

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • Is that Charlie Sheen pouring himself a beer at 1:12? Oh the irony...

  • whos song is this originally??

  • @fadingrose192

She did it a couple of years before the Searchers.....I believe it was written by Sonny Bono

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • @fadingrose192 ........ the original version is the Searchers

  • @lillymaude1

Jackie DeShannon recorded it first in 1963. The Searchers turned it into a hit.

  • Prefer de version of " the searchers !

  • @lillymaude1

    Sorry about that

    Thanks hwaj5300

  • @fadingrose192

    This is the Original

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • ramones do a super job on this one. you can find it on there album, Road To Ruin.

  • Her version is bland. The Searchers Rocked it.

  • @enkidu1936

Chocolate and vanilla ....if you know what I mean

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • far better than the Searchers - such a distinctive voice and I love her quirky phrasing. It's her song, after all.

  • @prescient8

She was the one before the searchers

    Thanks ....Hwaj5300

  • @hitchiker441, oh, please. She sounds like she is bored, barely awake, and is reading the music and lyrics for the first time ever off of some sheet music. Cotton candy has more substance than this does.,

Someone else mentioned "white soul". Of course it exists. This isn't an example of it.

  • im 25 years old but always love sixties music. when meet this song im in love of her voice and lyrics.

  • @indioallen

    Eat your hearts out "Searchers"

This version is King or queen it's according to how you see it.

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • @hwaj5300 queen. i dont like the searchers version.

  • I usually don't like these graphics added over the top of music, but this one is very, very well done. Well done, hwaj5300.

But...this version of the song is bland compared to The Searchers version. Sorry, but it's true.

  • @Stoshie

Thanks ......but i have to disagree with you about the Searchers.... and as far as it being true.....It is only an opinion I guess that is way they make chocolate and Vanilla ice cream.

    Thanks for the nice comment

    Hwaj5300

  • @Stoshie she's got more emotion in this than the searches did!

  • Thanks - I always thought The Searchers was the original - thank goodness for Youtube!

  • @Jamesmac30 Nope This is to my knowledge the first years before the searchers

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • Comment removed

  • Great work by Jack Nitzsche and Sonny Bono. This is so good, Jackies voice is unbelievable.

  • @piraan2

    Amen

    Hwaj5300

  • great video!

  • This is a GREAT version! I think I like it equally with the Searchers'!

  • @7NTM61Ic

You must be a lot younger than I ...... to even think of the Searcher.....in connection with this song ....I believe there is no contest there......But I do understand and thanks

    Hwauj5300

  • OMG I had forgotten all about Jackie DeShannon - shame on me!

  • @justlilyanne

Shame is right but all is forgiven

I hope you enjoyed this one

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • The song was originally recorded by Jackie DeShannon. Other hit version of this song was recorded by The Searchers. Jackie hit #84 in 1963 but The Searchers hit # 13 with it in 1964, Mike, Tony, John & Chris..They just had it at another level even though I love this from Jackie.

  • @Veekator

All I have to say is " The world was not quiet ready for Jackie"

I believe this is a superior version of this song

    Hwaj5300

  • @hwaj5300 Good point, It's just a great song. Put Sonny Bono on the map. I even like the Ramone's version...lol I was a kid growing up then and the Britisn Invasion was unbeleiveble.

  • @Veekator

Worked in the music industry during the invasion .....it added something but also hurt what than was R&R ...it kind of became something else

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • @Veekator Yeah Sonny but also Jack Nitzsche who had his hands in a lot of grea music including Neil Youngs. The Searches weren't hit makers like Jackie but their version of this song is better, probably much better, due to the amazing jingle-jangle guitar.

  • @11xzxzxz You are correct on all counts. It was the perfect time being the British Invasion. The one thing my older sister and I agreed on was the Ed Sullivan and the Smothers Brothers show...Thanks

  • @Veekator Thanks for saying I am correct on all accounts but you wrote elsewhere that Jackie's version is better. I never go with popular choices but Searches made it much higher up the charts and that distinctive guitar (present only in the original version they did .. forget about their live performances .. must have had a great producer (as Jack Nitzsche). I like Jackie for some songs but this is not it. Ha

  • @11xzxzxz Ithink the Searchers version with Mike, Chris, John and Tony is the best. It's the version that will always be best remembered. Hey It was on Ed Sullivan...A true classic..

  • @Veekator See I don't know their names and really this is the one song that they do ..that is great to me. It's sort of odd that most people can listen to this and not think about the great new guitar sound the Searches put on display. If I remember the Ed Sullivan Show was live? and it lacked the great guitar jangle of the studio? Or am I wrong? Almost seems like Dusty's is a totally different song and Billboard told the story (again not that popularity means much of anything_)

  • Good music touches everyone's soul, regardless of what you see on the outside!

  • best version

  • @K1apsel

    No doubt about it.........

    Hwaj5300

  • she is the mother of white soul

  • @ishotamerica

To me there is no white soul ....There is no black soul..... SOUL is feeling ....If an artist sings a soul like they mean it to me that's soul....

And your right On this song she has it

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • Great girl singer !!! Super-Voice !!! Thanks a lot

  • @sharkfin60

    Oh my .........Your welcome

    Hwaj5300

  • Jackie's interpretations, whether of her own songs or someone else's, invariably became definitive. An incomparable song writer and singer, and drop-dead gorgeous to boot!

  • @problem49

Nothing else to say but Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • One of the great woah wo’s at 1:51.

  • @frereslumiere

Woah Wo Right back at ya

    Hwaj5300

  • hahaha Patrick Swayze...

  • @spooge1234

Not sure of what the (ha ha ha) means ...However this was posted back in 2008

No disrespect For Mr.Swayze is intended....

    Hwaj5300

  • Never heard this version before...great !

  • @alanvking

    The original

    Thanks .....I think so too

    Hwaj5300

  • omg lol a glowing halo surrounds patrick swayze at like 1:40. too good.

  • Faygo069

Assure you this is strictly coincidental But thanks for pointing it out

    Hwaj5300

  • Sonny Bono wrote that song.

  • the original !

  • @metalman616

    Indeed!!!!

    Hwaj5300

  • so mais ramones e raimundos

  • It was Written for Jackie DeShannon by Sonny Bono. I always enjoy all the different versions of the songs including the Ramones.

  • Co-written by Jack Nietsche, who I believe produced it as well...Cher had a simultaneous, if IMO inferior, version as well...but this is the best version of this song ever

  • I love Jackie . I got to see her in NYC in 2003. Great show! This is my favorite version of this song. My second favorite is Petula Clark's French version..La Nuit N'en Finit Plus.

  • The appearances of Charlie Sheen and Patrick Swayze are quite ironic - note the lyrics they're juxtaposed to - considering the recent events in relation to the two of them!

  • Finally, what look to be the real lyrics. BTW There is no wrong music and right music. There is only the music you personally like. That's why it is so universally popular. All have their own. There is no disputing taste. Let all be happy with their loves and likes. Judge not and ye will not be judged. Say not his song blows and he won't say your song blows.

  • I had never heard this version. AWESOME! I always loved Jackie. She did this song so freaking great! Thank you so very much for posting this.HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! :-)))

  • Cher's version is good, Jackie DeShannon's is good,Searchers version is good but don't leave out Smokie's version. Much prefer than all the rest. All in all, this is a great song! Cheers and enjoy!

  • Cher's version is the best!

  • Jackie Deshannon-lovely vocals. thanks for the post.

  • The Ramones did the best version.

  • Dear Operdoc,

Then I respectfully suggest you go to an ear-doctor.

  • yeah, you're right. no one sings it like Joey Ramone.

  • I grew up with the Smokie version. But thanks to Youtube, I know now that Jackie sang it better than anybody else.

    Who the fuck are Smokie...

  • No, it's "Who the fuck is Alice?"

  • Jackie - Every time my needles pin yore grooves - Jackie - X

  • Jackie's version of this song was by far the best.

  • i prefer the ramones version, but it was the first one i heard, and im a big fan of the ramones so i suppose it makes sense.

  • Sonny Bono wrote this song?

  • I know! I thought that was amazing too, haha.

  • He wrote it for Jackie, but another song was picked for her first single release in the US.

The Searchers covered it, and that WAS picked for their first single release.

  • She's way too overlooked.

  • The music is good... The pics kind of funny...

  • 私も大好きな曲のひとつです。

  • I like her rendering, and I like the Searchers, but above all else I love the Ramones' version.

No matter who sings it though, it's a classic heartbreaker.

  • In case you were not aware of it: Jackie DeShannon was the FIRST to actually perform this song. Years later the Searchers rendered it.

  • best version i´ve ever heard

    thanks

  • That may be because you heard the Searchers one first.

  • thats just it though i didnt hear the searchers version first,i even heard the original love potion number 9 before i heard the searchers version and i still think the searchers version is better on that song too.

  • Great song. As others here says, Jackie puts real soul into it.:) This is some video as well:D

  • Great

  • Don't forget Sonny Bono's coauthor, Phil Spector arranger Jack Nietzsche, who no doubt stuck those tympani into the song. What the world needs now is Jackie sweet Jackie.

  • Future congressman Bono done good with this one!

  • I have to agree with elaikar5 a few days ago - this is the BEST version of Needles and Pins. Jackie puts her heart and soul into it, giving it meaning!

    Thanks for posting.

  • hwaj5300 - Right-on..!! Also love her version of 'When You Walk in the Room' - Yes, music has no racism.. and it was really.. really bringing the races together back then, in the '60's.

Did you ever notice how there are no more.. 'leisure time' music..?? No 'fun in the sun' and no songs like 'Time for Livin' & 'Let's live for Today' ??

  • This is the BEST version of Needles and Pins. Jackie's got soul!

  • oh yeah, she's good. but have you heard The Ramones version? it's pretty good too.

  • hawj5300...what a find!!haven't heard her meodic/souful voice in a lonig time...Boy, that sure brings back memories...our band kind of followed "her" timing as oppoesed to the faster Searchers version...thx the Blast fromthe Past!!

  • thanks for uploading this song....it's one of my old time favourites...

    every single word is true

  • anyone who thinks the searchers version of this song is in any way better than the jackie deshannon original version is one of two things ..totally deaf or very very deaf

  • I agree, I often used to argue with people who thought the searchers' was the original. This has much more power, maybe she knew what she was singing about.

  • Sorry, but The Searchers' version wasn't a patch on DeShannon's version -- particularly this rendition. The Searchers only had the hit because their recording company flogged it mercilessly to the DJs of the time, who were all taking payola.

This is the ONLY definitive rendition that projects so much angst, whereas The Searchers treated it simply as another "pop" song -- they had absolutely NO feel for the lyrics.

  • sorry i did not care enough about the lyrics.

i went to my primary facebook account today. it was to take a screenshot. i did not talk to anybody. sorry for my english, my grammar may not be correct .

  • fabulous production hwaj5300 I love this song and Jackie is superb such a gifted singer songwriter and so beautiful FAB X

  • Big sixties hit for The Searchers in the UK.

  • :-) groovy tune mannnnn

  • yeah Mannnnn...........

  • Top Job

  • Thank you

    Hwaj5300

  • I love this song! Nice,nice,nice....

  • Thanks, Thanks,Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • I have 500 songs on my MP3 player. I play this tune more than any other one. My favorite.

    She's got a great voice.

  • whoda thunk ???

when I posted it , It was because I loved it,never dreamed it would become one of my most talked bout and most watched.

  • Thanks for posting hwaj

  • vegaslover777

    You are welcome

    Hwaj5300

  • searchers, smokie...but this is nice, too.

  • Comment removed

  • how come almost nobody said anything about the smokie's version? for me that's the best. ok....i'm young...just 21. when i was maybe 6-7 years old i had a casette of them....i used to listen to it at least one time a day. is magic how i feel now when i listen again to this great music.

  • this song was written by sonny bono

  • I did not know that.

But who wrote a song is not as important as who delivers it.

And she delivered this one to your door.

    Thanks Harry

  • Great version! but really you think that is more important who delivers it? If the songwritter dont write, there's nothing to deliver, don't you think?

Thanks for post this great song!

    Cheerz from Argentina!

  • wow....i did'nt know this lady wrote so many hits ? awesome...

  • I believe she is very talented paul

  • Great song, great singing!

  • you certinly got that right

  • Dusty Springfield did a good version

  • Hi hah13

I have not heard Dusty's version I always kind of lean toward the original or " the first one I heard" This I am almost certain is the original. However i can't take anything away from Dusty

  • it took 44yrs........44yrs.....i kid you not.....she was right.....hell, i fell on my knees, my sword, and my head.......but it's better........and she's not hurtin'.....and she patched me up too!

  • I love this song!

  • Me Too

  • Been there....done that!

  • Well then Kathy, aren't you 'ms perfect!'

Have you ever had sex on a bicycle, or

    have you been there...done that!

"Now go home and behave yourself, hippie!"

  • yeah this. is the original

  • marvie !!

  • very old song but nice ..thanks for posting

  • ya did a good job with this clip, the fact is that everything Jackie touches become gold! she was the best writer and singer ever!

  • Lovely,it thinks of my young live. That the music is not forgotten. Can we still find it in the shop for bying it?

  • try RHINO RECORDS out of Santa Monica ca. or AMAZON

  • ..Or you can download free programs like "YouTube to MP3" to download this Video as a MP3-File.

  • I actually like this version than The Ramones and The Searchers covers.

  • true.

  • what about smokie?

  • GABBA GABBA HEY!!!

  • AAHHH!! Thank you so much for posting this!!! Awesome video too... THANKS!

  • superb singer and a class act!

  • Jackie had the originals..the Searchers did cover versions. She wrote "Room" while "Needles" was written by Sonny Bono and Jack Nitzsche who were also working with Phil Spector around that time

  • As usual Jackie's gutsy, heartfelt version of her own song totally shuts down all the cover versions.

  • except she didn't write it, so is it really "hers"? Simply recorded it first is all right?

  • I had completely forgotten that it was not her original composition, but still, she certainly made it her own. Sonny would have been committing royalty suicide by recording it himself.
