  • @TheFlyred - yep extremely lucky. My valued friend Graciela Casillas says: "We do not rise to the level of our ability. We fall to the level of our training."

  • the technic is very detail. not usually see on a western judo player. your performing like the japanese traditional skill. nice nice nice nice =]

  • Anyone here know Keith Schwartz of St. Paul Minnesota?

  • Wow, incredibly technical breakdown.

  • Look how he keeps his weight FORWARD on the front leg -- then a quick transfer while the sweep occurs but the weight stays forward. so he can take down the larger guy with his weight, not muscle. all you guys who posted negative comments have no idea what ur talking about. this is good stuff.

  • this crap only work if u have a thick jacket on.

  • Nice, very detailed instruction! Good job.

  • Sensei teaches by explaining it well in detail....i teach by actions. I would watch/listen to this video before performing any judo moves. It takes a lot of action, trials and error to perform this. Ouchi gari is a means by which someone will put all the force of gravity and weight on top of your chest. If done right.... broken ribs, broken leg, broken clavicle etc etc.

  • Juice spirit judo guys talk for so long because judo moves are so complicated. To you it might look simple. It's not.

  • man.. why do all judo guys talk for such a long time just to perform 1 move.... too boring.

  • man.. why do all judo guys talk for such a long time just to perform 1 move....

  • ... his foot is on a wrong position

  • thats the most tech explanation ive seen. im looking fwd to trying it that way

    Canada

  • yea its over when they land

unless the throw isnt clean then they move into ne waza

if its teh street the throw would hurt like hell

mma... that is still a dominate postion, how many people u seen get gnp out from there

and bjj come on im sure u learn how to break and pass guard

  • This is Judo, not jiu-jitsu. The Ouchi Gari would garner the attacker an ippon, and worst case scenario in self-defense is in the street if you fall between the guys legs you're going to rain down a few blows.

  • @espm1000 - that's what it says - JUDO.

  • I'm a fan of this channel. 'Nuff said. More comments as things come up in training. ; p.

  • Very good, is one my favorite techniques.

  • I enjoy the breakdown--the level of specifics and detail. I also enjoy listening to the instructor; he has speech patterns similar to Christopher Walken. Nice video!

  • Great DEMO

  • judoka1 I know that many coaches place the head as shown which keeps tori square to avoid counters from uke during the drop down.

  • Hi guys. I reallly liked the video, i like when someone tries to explain every aspect o the technique, and i really need to improve my tsukuri on ouhi. The foot angle seems to be very nice and i had no idea about it, gonna try it! Oh, and i agree with judoka, the head souldn't be acing the right side? I mean, the side in which you apply the sweep? Cool vid!

  • please correct me if i am wrong

  • it is an ashi waza. ashi meaning foot. and it is a basic throw. many erros are made in american judo. I think it great the effort put into the explanation.

  • ouchi gari i am farely certain is not ashi waza it is all about the sweep and it doesn't use the same kasure as most foot techniques. this throw is more like o soto gari rather than the foot techniques such as de ashi harai or sasae tsurikomi ashi i'm not quite sure how they classify it but i will ask my sensei and see what i come up with

  • lallope is correct, in this case though 'ashi' takes the meaning of leg, which is the primary actor in the movement.

  • Is Ouchigari really a throw or is it just foot technique?

  • Nice! I just disagree on Tori's head position Tori's head should be tucked but positioned in the right side of Uke's chest (if Tori was a righty)looking towards the driving arm (Tori's right arm) when the sweep begins. The effect of the wrong head position shows in the last throw if you noticed how awkward the throw end was. Everything else looks good, keep up the good work.

  • actually the video 'Jimmy Pedro's Ouchi Gari' at 2:15 also says the head should be on the opposite side of uke's chest, ie. opposite side of the leg you're reaping, same as in this video.

  • @anon69 - my sensei in Japan always said there are 8 sides to every technique -- this is only one.

  • @YANAGImartialarts 8 sides. extremely basic and important in judo. Not many players do much concern on this concept. u r very lucky to hve a japanese sensei =]
