I applaud the work of Witness. Human rights' violations impact whole communities and individuals of both genders. I think we would be taking a step backwards by alloting more or different rights to women that to men, which would wedge them apart rather than bring them together. I am a huge fan of human rights, but I believe all that makes women equal to men is satisfied by them, by virtue that they are human, and not simply on the basis that one belongs to a particular gender.

Women receive many tax benefits and special subsidization in this country because it's politically palatable. Why do we give special treatment? If we're for equality, let's live it; trying to micromanage society will only lead to resentment. What's more, if a woman or a black gets into a high place, they have to deal with some of their peers thinking they only got their because they're a "minority." It just never ends. Progressives need to realize we're not meant to be socially engineered.

I applaud the work of Witness. Human rights' violations impact whole communities and individuals of both genders. I think we would be taking a step backwards by alloting more or different rights to women that to men, which would wedge them apart rather than bring them together. I am a huge fan of human rights, but I believe all that makes women equal to men is satisfied by them, by virtue that they are human, and not simply on the basis that one belongs to a particular gender.

You can't appreciate that though, cause, I suppose that poses a threat to your paradigm. But yeah, think. Why else is the bible so PARANOID of women?

@YourDarkAccomplice I'm an atheist, so the Bible and the message it sends means little to nothing to me. However, I'll go out on a limb and say that religion has caused more harm to men than women. But, the Bible assigns roles to BOTH man and woman to follow and live by. How exactly were they oppressed, but men weren't? That's a serious question. I'm truly interested in knowing.

@Patheios Men weren't oppressed because they could do anything they chose to. They could be single for there lives, they could be a fisherman, or a doctor, or a priest. Woman were assigned one role in the bible, to marry and have children. THAT is why they are more opressed in the bible.

That has more to do with biology than the Bible. The Bible was written after Man had been around for quite some time. The Bible was modeled after the situation that already existed, not the other way around. It's not like everything was sunshine and lollipops, everyone equal, and then here came this Bible out of no where that changed all of it.

@Patheios - Whew, thank goodness for your being an atheist. I'd hate to have to explain this stuff to a person who thinks his myths are FACTS. Heh. Respect. However, the bible has also had a MASSIVE influence on how we constructed our society (hell, even our words!) And yes, it has been damaging to men as well. Very sad stuff... which is why it's indignating. As for "how exactly were they oppressed" that's a complicated topic that'll take more than just 500 characters to completely write. But ye

Men and women should be patient with each other, thoughtful and approach one another with wisdom.
SPirituality helps too, when I look at any woman (or man) , even one I disagree with I think of that person as my distant cousin, it ups to me to hold my own and lead by example.

I didn't say it's just men, did I? Perhaps you didn't understand my comment. Read it again please, then you'll understand. Realize that everyone, men, women, children, can go crazy because of different reasons. That doesn't mean every single one of us IS crazy. If you're scared you'll end up with someone like that, analyze them better before you marry them. ;)

I believe most women are worth respect, but some women are totally bitch!!!! So angry when I know that the law mostly stand on woman's side, particularly abuse case!!!!
