  • @BloodyScreams I agree with you

  • This is WAY too fast.

  • People are so stupid. Take a music course and you'll know it's up to the conductor how the song is preformed. Tempo is rarely something set in stone, generally it's given a ballpark range (ie. moderato, allegro and so on). The speed will vary based on who the performers are and what the director thinks is best. Since this show uses local orchestra as it travels, each show will sound a bit different.

  • Cara... isso é lindo demais.

  • i like this version better. nothing wrong whit Izumi masuda's version but i prefer this one

  • Susan Calloway is phenomenal!!!

  • For me, I prefer the one sung by Izumi Masuda. No I'm not one of those people who thinks everything in Japanese is better. Its just Masuda-San's version felt more fantasy-like. Whenever I listen to it, I feel like I'm floating off to another world. I still get goosebumps with Susan's version, but it doesn't affect me as much. Now if only Masuda-San's english was better, that song would probably just kill me with emotion. xD

  • I find this version alot better. The origional version sounds alot like engrish. When i finished COP i wondered why ti sounded so off. I have nothing against her, shes a fine singer, just not with english.

  • I like Susan Calloway as a singer and she sings this song well, but i like Izumi Masuda's version better idk why, but i feel that she gives off more emotion when she sings.

No matter the opinion BOTH singers are Great!

  • Admittedly I haven't yet heard the original Japanese version of the song. But it seems to me for this song to have any incredible effect on people, then the lead singer must be very strong indeed, and Calloway achieves that.

  • Bizarre! At 3:46 both violinists scratch their faces in unison...

Susan is a wonderful singer, but she is really straining her voice on some of the high notes in this performance. Listen to the Distant Worlds CD version, it's far better. She probably just had an off day. I'm sorry but as beautiful as the original is, the words (which are in English) are mostly incomprehensible. Part of singing is matching the accent of the language, which the Japanese vocalist does not do.

  • Compared to other Final Fantasy music concerts this is truly bad and yes I agree: the singer was a very bad choice.

  • Susan Calloway is amazing live. I can't wait for the Chicago performance this year. I'm just not sure I'll be able to attend both shows. After last year's massive mishap involving Ravenia I wasn't able to go.

I know some of you love to jerk off Japan (I too was guilty of it when I was an ignorant youth) but try to learn to appreciate music in all forms and adaptations. This is a beautiful rendition. Dichotomy is a very bad way of looking at things, it isn't as simple as "better" or "worse".

  • @Alchemical I was so disappointed by Ravenia last year!!! At least this year made up for it! :)

  • One of my favorite musics from FF XI ! And I prefer your version than the original one!

  • One of my favorite musics from FF XI ! And I prefer your version than the originale one!

  • I don't like how she sings neither :S

  • Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

  • @riznich If you are referring to the japanese version, I don't see how you can find its singer's voice and english better...

  • @riznich Well it's interesting you're mentionning that the singer is chosen by the composer, since it is Nobuo Uematsu himself who chose Susan, and not only for this live but also for the 2 lives in San Francisco. Also keep in mind that depending on the ambient mood, a live interpretation of the same song can have different tones and speed. Which can either please people as they discover a new version suiting their taste or not like in your opinion, which I respect.

  • @riznich BTW I hope you were not implying that unlike you I'm close-minded or ignorant to other cultures and styles, since you would be wrong as I come from an asian family, I have been watching anime, studied a bit of japanese language and listening to all styles of music from Japan for 15 years.

  • @jpnn80 nobuo chose the original singer for the ORIGINAL version. if nobuo prefered susan calloway, he would have used her for the actual recording and video game. try to make excuses for the mistakes and unintentional sped up tempo all you want, this performance inferior to the recording by far. i actually usually like live performances better , because the flaws show the human element and emotion.. but the original singer (and orchestra) conveys MUCH more emotion.unlike this amy lee clone

  • @riznich Her NY performance was better, but how can you possibly call her an "Amy Lee clone"? Even as a criticism it doesn't make sense.

  • @riznich If he preferred the original singer, he would have brought her on tour.

  • @riznich One you are a weeaboo. Two, Susan is fit pretty much to sing all of the future FF vocal songs. Three, the Japanese singer doesn't even know how to pronounce english properly and you say it's better??? It's faster because they're on a time budget smartass. They don't have all night. Also, if you've been living under a rock or in a goddamn cave, where the hell do you see this kind of performance on MTV? Tell me one time MTV put an orchestrated concert EVER. @jpnn80 I totally agree with u

  • @riznich You = pwned

  • @riznich The sound quality here makes a big difference in the way Susan sounds in the song. Try listening to Final Fantasy 14 - Answers by Susan Calloway here on youtube to get a better idea or run Chasing the Sun here and hear her on her own song. She is an extremely talented, classically trained, award-winning singer who has performed the Final Fantasy score all over the world, having just returned from a week long gig in Japan with the orchestra.

  • @IrishGirl925 "classically trained" that's the problem imo.. she sounds too much like every other singer.. too robotic, no emotion. i never said she was a bad singer.. but the original conveys so much more feeling and emotion in this song. the technical flaws (sped up tempo etc) are either the orchestra's fault or intentional, not the singer's fault.

  • @riznich Why can't an english speaker sing the song in English? Also, Esperanto is a latin based synthetic language. I mean, it only make sense to have Western cultured singers. It's actually REALLY stupid to have Eastern people sing a song that's Latin based. There would be so many mistakes, I think your finicky minf would blow off.

  • @justa16thnote What is really stupid is to compel the 97% of the world population to learn an irregular language as English. "It's actually REALLY stupid to have world people talk in a laguage that's ONLY ENGLISH based, and they can't say they "own" it" I prefer Esperanto to English as an international language. It is based on Latin Germanic and Slavic languages, and therefore it's easier for those which have an indoeuropean language as 1rst language.

  • @justa16thnote Esperanto is not perfect, but it suits better than English. If a better planed language comes, then welcome. But a globalized world needs an easy language which don't destroy other's culture. Maybe you can't understand this, you certainly can only speak English. Why mistakes? their prononciation was great. Esperanto's grammar is similar to English language (and more similar to Swedish)

    -AS =present; -I =infinitive; -OS =future, -IS=past

mi saltOS = I'll jump; li trinkAS= he drinks

  • @justa16thnote Why everything has to be sing in English, ¿por qué no en español?

In Spain, I see lot of people singing in English and I don't complain.

You watch only once your people singing in another language and you complain? How dare you? It would be great to hear people singing in other languages, not only English.

  • @alejandro31192

That's not what I said. I said that Esperanto, a latin based language, should be sung by people who sing in Latin based languages. Spanish people singing Esperanto is fine. Also, Distant worlds is originally in English but they had a Japanese singer sing it in English. Redundant don't you think?

  • @justa16thnote and I said, and repeat that Esperanto is not a latin based language, its grammar it's VERY different to Spanish or French and very similar to Chinese or English. It's based on indoeuropean languages, Romance, Germanic and Slavic.

So spanish people singing English is not fine, or singing Russian... If they can pronounce it well, why not?

Why redundant? You don't need an English native speaker to sing a song in English. Also, the creator of Final Fantasy is Japanese.

  • @alejandro31192 Romance is latin based... THe orignal singer, Izumi Masuda, did not do a good job singing in english. I prefer Susan Calloway, an english speaker, singing the song in her native language. NO mistakes. Honestly, I think the best person to sing a song in a language should be a native speaker, Esperanto being the exception because there are only a handful of native speakers.

  • @justa16thnote yes, romance are languages that come from Latin, but esperanto is also Slavic and German based, not only Latin.

Yes, you're right, her English is not the best, but it a nice try. But there's lot of people that speak very good and without accent, and therefore can sing in their non-native language if they want so. Moreover, usually people like accents of a singer in a song. Shakira has a spanish accent and sings in English too. I don't see any problem there. GOOD NIGHT!

  • @riznich Also her voice is beautiful ( sorry for reopening this but I feel I wanna say something) I recently attended the London concert and I had to tell her how beautiful her voice was ^_^. So please even though its your opinion many here have disagreed ^_^ and so do I and this track is one of my favourites from the concert :). Just enjoy the incredible music or go.

  • @riznich when they played this song in san francisco they went slower if i recall correctly as i was there blown away by the performance.

  • @riznich i went to one of the concerts in march 08

it was better preformed than in this one

but its still a very beautiful song

this one is butcered a little but thats probably because of the recording

i missed this concert... but i will attend the next one in chicago (one or both of them i dont know yet)

  • Susan..as always..you never disappoint.this is so, so beautiful.congrats on the wonderful opportunity - what an experience that must have been - one most of us only dream of..

  • @Stradiviper I recorded the full concert, but I didn't want to put all of it here as such an obvious infringement could be taken down due to copyright.

  • @jpnn80 Wow, i'd love to watch the full concert!

  • This is so amazing. I saw the one at SF 2 weeks ago. We didn't have the pleasure of a choir! Calloway was just as beautiful though =]

  • @theapplehascarbs Thanks for your feedback on SF, now I feel even more luckier I was in Chicago to listen to her and the full orchestra !

  • Susan Calloway is a fantastic vocalist!!! Great job by her, the choir and orchestra.

  • PS - Thanks for posting the video. My camera didn't get any good videos

  • This was such an amazing concert to attend. I want to go back!
