  • I swear about 400,000 of the 408,127 views are me...

  • I love the bit where they do the stuff, from about 0:00 to 21:35 :)

  • can you upgrade the graphics?

  • anyone know the effect mark uses at 16:30? towards the end of greet death

  • @imacooldude he uses an electronic device called an ebow im pretty sure. i have one and it makes an identical sound. he could have it on a pedal but you get the same sound with the ebow

  • @GrizzliesCollide e-bow + delay + reverb, maybe with an effect that swells the volume like reverse reverb?

  • @isandofthemusic Definately some reverb but on a clean channel and it probably has a very tight delay. That with the E-Bow would give you a carbon copy of his effect here, if it isn't exactly what he uses.

  • Some of my friends say my music sounds like these guys.

  • Precioso...de Portugal sinto-vos como irmaõs do sentimento...Keep it!

  • in my senior year of high school i wrote a crappy little sci fi story called yasmin the light. about a beautiful girl in a post apocalyptic wasteland.

  • @sixgun91 I'd read it. :D

  • EITS make me glad I'm alive

  • Yes chris dwyer, our soul lives again. frozen in stone for a thousand years....

  • I can feel my soul.

  • eerie fact:Exlosions in the Sky once released an album a day before the Sept. 11 attacks and one of the tracks on the album was called "The Plane will Crash Tomorrow"

  • @warmaker911 super false!!! the album came out in august of the same year not in september. this plane will crash tomorrow was not the name of any of the tracks. this phrase was part of the album artwork. get your facts straight

  • @vavitadeperro get your facts straight pretentious motherfucker. It's on there web blog u douchefag

  • that looks like my garage !

  • Dope vid. Would give my left nut to have been here.

P.S.- To the person who yelled "yeehaw" after he announced their from Texas, blow me, were not all cowboys down here doucher.

  • eargasam...

  • Just saw them live at Block Party in Seattle, but I gotta say, while they were f-in incredible, this may be the greatest "mini" performance of any band I've ever seen. I try to imagine seeing Yasmin The Light played in a small CD store and it blows my mind.

  • @bwp2001 also saw them at the block party. i was so bummed there was no encore, i think trembling hands would have been perfect for that. i also wished they played this song, but their performance was still badass. catastrophe and the cure was insane

  • michael james is my cousin :)

  • oh man when Greet Death comes on those notes make me go crazy!

  • Now this is fucking music.

  • hell yeah

  • Why can't I find "Once more to the afterlife" in any of their albums?

  • @TheDunnodunno it was later retitled "the long spring" and can be found on the temporary residence limited compilation trr50 "thank you". this song is one of the often overlooked gems of this band, imo.

  • @arboreal

    Thank you

  • I found this one from the Solaire - Great Wendt video.... post rock erm.... ROCKS!

EITS, Jakob and a few others transport me to a happier, calmer place.

  • This band put on the greatest live performance I have ever seen. . .

  • hey guys! stop wasting your time talking about justin bieber , let's focus in our taste for this beautiful music and amazing post rock bands!...dejen de hablar de ese wey del justin B y enfoquemonos en nuestras bandas que nos gustan! dejense de mamadas EITS simply one of the best post rock bands!

  • post-rock is the best thing happened to our world

  • This is my second or third time hearing of Explosions in the Sky, and even though I didn't know of them when I was younger, it makes me think back to the good times as a child. This song is truly wonderful!

  • LOL

  • so goooood live!!!!!

  • i hope i was there ><

  • Hi guys. Check my channel for post-rock songs that i wrote! i really need more attention! thanks.

  • They don't need lyrics, they just leave the base, guitars, and drums to tell the story

  • their music inspires me to finally live.

  • so moving...

  • After this, I'm definitely looking up more of their stuff. This is freaking sweet

  • Dedicated guys who are prepared to get paid fuck all to play the music that they love. Truely commedable people.

  • Comment removed

  • @ediblehatred

I'm really glad you mentioned that. The thing I love about them, other than their brilliant music, is that they don't charge exhorbant amounts of money for their shows like they could ($15-$20 at most usually). I remember they were playing a show to raise money for a friend with cancer and they apologized for increasing prices to a sky high $26! I'd pay way more than that to see them live.

Their passion and their appreciation for their fans is as inspiring as their music.

  • that was an awesome show wish i was there

  • If jesus was sent by god, who sent these guys?

  • @Redeyetoold no no jesus sent these guys to .. he just sent them to play boring music in some hole in the wall record store

  • @Redeyetoold Nobody sent these guys. They're talented people who should be able to take responsibility for this themselves. Their hard work shouldn't be minimized by a both immoral and illogical concept of god.

  • @sk8tafrnk " Immoral and illogical concept of God?" You sound like a young person who is very angry. You won't be saying that when your time comes. Hopefully, you'll grow up by then.

  • @Begs45 I'm not angry. I think life is terrific and I'm very lucky to be able to have one (seeing as there's trillions of other people who never even get the chance to be born).

Because of this, I don't like people who convince 6 year old kids that they, or other people deserve to burn in Hell for eternity simply because they don't agree with the views of another. Being forced to love something you fear is fundamental of sadomasochism.

  • @sk8tafrnk [second message]

God is an idiot. He gave people free will, then when they started sinning out of control he was like "Omg, what have I done? Even though I created this problem myself and could have seen the outcome ahead of time, the best way I can solve this problem is to sacrifice myself, to myself, to forgive people for mistakes I myself have made in the past."

No sane person could possibly worship something like that convincingly enough to fool an all knowing deity.

  • this band never ceases to amaze me, every time i listen to them , i get constant chills and tears of insight and enlightenment are brought to my eyes, fuckin amazing! you are by far my favorite band of all time, and i am very musically inclined. thank you i fuckin love you guys!

  • Greet death is one of the best songs of all time

  • best 20 min of my life

  • to the five people that were in the audience; be grateful that you got to see a gig that over 370000 people have watched since

  • i'm in <3 love <3 with explosions in the sky. i want to eat them.

  • I've seen these guys three times and they are ten times better live then on an album

  • three guitarist, one drummer....no bass player. if this isn't your favorite band of all time you are an idiot.

  • @colinmccarty2003 the guy in the middle is playing the bass.. though most of time you're right :D

  • everyone on youtube needs to stop hating on justin beiber. yes, i dont like him and think he has 0 talent. but seeing every video with x amount of dislikes and people saying "so and so many people like justin beiber or justin beiber has that many fans" is really getting fucking old.

  • @mclaxin9 You're Right.Everyone needs to stop hating on Justin Beiber. She has feelings too.

  • @MMXVIM bahahahahahahahaha. touche

  • @mclaxin9 32 people like justin bieber.

  • @mclaxin9 I AGREE WITH YOU!

  • @mclaxin9 It almost seems like there are just as many people that love Justin Bieber religiously as there are people who "hate" him the same way. Everyone should just shut up about Justin Bieber and stop making him famous out of it. I'm obviously not making things any better, but there I said it.

  • @mclaxin9 he has a good deal of talent...

  • since 2005 i see this video before go to sleep ...

  • this deserves about 40 million more views than it does.

  • Oh my god! The applause was so small too, WTF. I would of been cheering "Hell Ya!" or "Fuck Ya!"

  • Oh my godddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :]] yay!

  • It makes me sad to see that people can actually dislike this

  • @pbprof21 no man, it's just 32 people who missed, well 31 and michael j fox

  • @seamusmceagan mean, but damn funny^^

  • @HubirdOL i kid, i kid

  • May 23th paradiso, Amsterdam :DDD. cannot wait.

  • Talented youngster huh?

  • May 19th London :DDD. cannot wait.

  • I've concluded that this band is the best band ever.

  • Do 31 people really need a singer for this kind of music?

  • Back in the 70's the Ramones played everywhere and showed everyone punk rock. Suddenly bands sprung out from wherever they played. Explosions has that same effect I think. I remember after i heard this all i wanted to do was play instrumental music. it blew my 14 year old mind. wtf, no lyrics?!?!?! hahaha

it was so moving. not a lot of bands have that effect. years later im still coming back to this video. some shitty recorded live performance for practically no one changed my life forever.

  • @achristianinfrisco

    thats a word dude!

  • @achristianinfrisco

    im 15 nao. hmmm

  • @iKoopaKid thats cool, is the the first time you've heard them?

  • @achristianinfrisco

nah i heard them about a year ago, downloaded their whole discography. it changes my life.

  • @achristianinfrisco I've favorited this video and watch it often. It's not great quality but I specifically love this video. I'm not sure why.

  • @Khamul i know right? fast forward to today i finally started that post-rock band hahhaa

  • @achristianinfrisco

    feel the same way brother..

by the time ive seen this we were starting as a band..

we were searching for a singer.. after seeing this piece of art.. we decided to get some delay (:

years later we still play together and were still listening to explosions..

they made up a new way and i dont know how to thank them!

  • i would imagine they would be bad for other bands in a record store. everyone would put down what they're holding and only buy their discography.

  • they play their guitars so low like badasses. haha

  • Outstanding. WOW. make more.

  • Outstanding. WOW.

  • I with friends have a band, we love eits music. That what we play is I think post rock, we have some videos with our music on our yt channel, if you like to listen ;-)

  • Calming...so serene...magical.... :)

  • Calming...so serene...magical.... :)

  • So perfect... this music provides some sort of strange harmony and tranquility deep inside of my brain, somehow all chaos turns into order (or at least it gives that illusion)

  • @feisal70 just so you know that vote down was soooo unintentional. this is the best explanation of their music i have heard thus far.

  • I see the appeal but idk why but i cant appreciate it. but i give em a lot of respect, its organized dissonance (saying that in a good way) maybe one day.

  • They make such beautiful music. I saw them in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2007 and everyone wanted them to come back for an encore, but the lead guitarist was so sincere, saying that they were spent. It's true. They put so much emotion into every show and I can't thank them enough for it.

  • can someone please tell me what course the drummer is using?

  • win

  • Justin Bieber made 31 accounts to dislike this video.

  • @AmbientMW i gotta admit, I AM JUSTIN BEIBER

  • @AmbientMW make that 32

  • @AmbientMW

I would make 13 accounts to dislike that comment.

    You're spoiling EITS for us

  • @AmbientMW

    32 now haha XD

Whoever disliked this doesn't appreciate good music!

  • @AmbientMW How dare you even utter that beast of a child's name on an Explosions In The Sky video. Come up with something original. The more you mention that pop "star"'s name, the more popular he gets. If you stop mentioning him, he will become forgotten.

  • @AmbientMW hahahahaha nice one! justin beaver is a fag!

  • Because of you guys I bought electric guitar. You are great!

  • I'm sure in probably in the comments here somewhere already but , DAMN..!!! the drummer goes OFFFFF @ 1:37....these guys are tha shizzzzz.. proud to call them hometown heroes ... 512 ..AUSTIN, TEXAS 78758 .....and yes, you can buy guitar pedals for a nickel on every street corner in the city..!!!!

  • @hootloops word, best part man, drummer is fuckin sick with it

  • i love the relaxing, atmospheric, ambient sound they have. it's terrific music.

  • I love how patient they are with their song devolpment. They don't rush into anything. They let each idea play out naturally, and as a result, at all times you feel fulfilled listening to them. It's amazing. There are no boring parts, yet look how soft most of the song is. They are something else...

  • So So So good they blow me away.

  • there is more feeling and emotion in this music than any other i have heard, and there is no words. that is a truly amazing thing to do.

  • what are the name of the songs??

or this is just one song???

  • This is one of the things that makes life worth living.

  • who are the 31 assholes who didn't like this? wtf.

  • @porovaara they're just OBVIOUSLY couldnt find the Like button :)

  • I love how in greet death they keep it slow. It's so easy to just speed up when playing this, but they took their time and its wonderful.

  • this was the first video i favourited on youtube. damn, time flies.

  • Man they had to set up all that equipment for 21 minutes? Still an awesome show though.

  • I would kill to see them live; I hope to if they're ever in the Mid-West.

  • the feedback in the middle of greet death is incredible.

  • where are my greaat comments

  • i have been listening to this video in the middle of the lineup of a playlist (not watching it)...while doing other things online...and as soon as this set started i knew it was this gig at the store!!!!!! THIS SOUNDS FLIPPEN GREAT!!! ...all the other gigs/sets/on the playlist dont have this clear and crisp sound!!...EITS thank you!!!.

  • I listen to many genres. Mainly Black Metal (I know, TOUGH music xD) Bands like Emperor, but I'm also a great Led Zeppelin Fan, but I must say, when I first listened to Explosions, I was completely blown away by their brilliant music. It's so fantastic, and I absolutely love listening to them, they easily became my third favourite band of all time. Their music is so...I dunno, artistic and even without any lyrics each and every song has got a story to tell. LOVE them!

  • i fucking love how the two other guitarists just keep playing what they originally were, right under when munaf bursts out, something about that amazes me

  • amazing band. anyone who likes them will also love mogwai, explosions in the sky's main influence.

  • ive been a fan of this bands music for so fucking long. really i love these guys music no homo

  • beautiful

  • This band has influenced my life greatly in many ways. When I need to feel strong or need a friend I listen to them. My favorite song is Magic Hours!

  • Mogwai, Explosions in the sky, This will destroy you, just several of the greatest bands in the world...

  • @vinceAluvnaruto I listen the shit out of those bands so good

  • they look so humble, but create these amazing sounds.

  • Nice vids. Take a look at mine sometime

  • Anyone know what the set list is, starting with the first song?

  • how a musician should be is this.humble, intense, loving what they do...

Screw popstars, rockstars they are all fake, long live great music

  • :D really.

  • what album is Once more to the afterlife on?

  • @ihatecarebears1 Actually it's called The Long Spring I believe...That's not the right title of the song...

  • Saw them for the 1st time recently on Austin City Limits. Blew me away! I love it when every once in awhile I just fall in love with a band!

  • Everybody is right ....They just transmit so many emotions inside our lives and this kind of music ...make me feel alive....Happy...They are special guys with a tremendous music spirit....I cannot stop t hear their music....it is like a drug for me ....I will go and see u guys ..no matter the country I will go ...

  • this is fuckin awesome

  • anyone know the reverb pedal?

  • A W E S O M E

I wish someday they come back to Spain :_D

  • holy fuck that was perfect

  • awesome.

<3 explosions in the sky. :)

  • saw them in vienna...totally great liveband!

  • to be honest, this is the first version of the long spring. Once more to the after life is the correct version's name, since it was made and recorded on this video before that compilation album was made!

  • please someone tell me why the brick? they are amazing my favorite band, hoping that they can come to Mexico someday

  • a lot of drummers, especially this one, punch the bass drum hard enough to the point where it slides away. Im thinking the cinder block is a preventative measure

  • @danielcrlk post rock drummers usually end up with their drum set a few feet in front of where it started; the brick just keeps it from doing that :)

  • Yasmin The light

  • I would have given anything to be at this show....

  • "Once more to the afterlife"

wat is dat, where i can listen to dat in good quality, was it released on any album?

  • yeah, anybody knows?

i can't seem to find it

  • it's misnamed, it's really just The Only Moment We Were Alone, which is on The Earth is Not A Cold Dead Place

  • i'm quite certain that its not The Only Moment We Were Alone,

on a seperate note, it sounds sounds like a demo version of the long spring

  • The song is actually called "The long spring". It's off a Thankyou album or something. You can buy it off iTunes.

  • I'm in a band. Before every show I listen to this set list on my Ipod and I do so when I'm on stage setting up my rig and it just gets me lost and helps me find myself to prepare to play my music. I am proud to say that someone today came up and told me I changed their life through music. I just smiled and told them, "Listen to Explosions in the Sky. They are the reason I'm still alive today." Outstanding band

  • pretty much man... well said.

  • @mrroni Being alive today because of EITS is fucking right.

  • @mrroni nice...very nice...whats yer band??

  • @ggallinsblood My band's name is Living with Giants. I'll message you a link to our myspace if you want to take a listen.

  • @mrroni whats your band called?

  • @mrroni i'd like to check out your band, too. are there any vids on youtube or do you guys have a myspace site?

  • @mrroni . Sweet self elevation. no one cares, truly. awesome band though

  • Amazing group <3

  • what kind of effects/pedals is the guy on the far right using to create that wall of sound in the background? (on the parts where he strums really fast- 1:40)

  • They are delay effects and I believe he is also using either a Wah or a volume pedal ontop of that. I believe its a Wah though. He also has pretty high reverb.

  • Powerful and intense and filled to the brim with love and passion. This band is exactly like the woman of my dreams, and I love them both!

  • Been listening to EitS for years now... and Yasmin the Light will forever be near the top of my favorite songs ever, just under First Breath After Coma...

  • I have recently started listening to this group just recently, so I really do now know what all their music is called. So if anybody would be polite enough to tell me what this piece is called, I would greatly appreciate it.
