hmmm.... very creative... well... granting you are using sign english rather than ASL... problem sometimes of putting creativity to signs or poetically signing the song is that it distort the basics elements of the signs itself...
granting that you're signing it just to make prayers creative then its a job well done... but if there are deaf people in the crowd then it didn't do justice in relaying the real message of the text...
As for the notion of the deaf... I noticed that you are from Italy. If you weren't aware, American Sign Language is quite different from Italian. We actually have deaf individuals in our group. I am also a special ed teacher and work with deaf students. As I have noticed there are a wide variety of "deaf" people and even regional signing even within America. I'm not deaf myself so I'm sure that my "hearing" culture plays a part in the signing.
And depending what school of thought you come from, some deaf say that it is impossible for a hearing person to sign "pure ASL". As for communicating the meaning, my deaf members do understand.
I would love to see what the Italian signing of this song is. Would you be able to post one?
ciao! grazie! thanks for the info. thought im using LIS (italian sign language) im quite fluent in ASL myself. im not questioning the signs or the ASL or signed-english part rather im looking into how we translate frozen text in another langauge. i myself made studies and is working in translating biblical and liturgical text especially in sign language and it is alway true that literal translation doesn't ALWAYS give due justice to the text.
i like to know whose voice is singing this song?
