@KieranD212 Actually, many, many companies had the license. Some guy went to the outlying soviet territories and discovered it. He didn't know who created it because it was freeware there. So he took it and sold imaginary rights to several companies. When the Soviet Union realized what was going on, they created ELORG, a company for managing rights of tetris. Then Nintendo paid the Soviets for the rights and subsequently released their game making all other versions (Atari included) illegal

Tetris was so popular in Belgium that we turned it into a TV-quiz. Canidates have to answer questions in 4 rounds plus a solo finale. After a correct answer the tetris screen comes up and they have to play the classic stuf.

The cool thing about the programm is that Tetris is not a solo game but a player vs player game. They have to duel and it can get bichy if one player screws up the perfect line opening so the other one can't score.
