  • Disney version. Okay, I can handle the tapping because it was good; but when they did over the roof tops... no. Sorry but that was just wrong. Does the movie no justice.

  • Really, I prefer the Disney,s version

  • i saw this show this summer it was AWESOME

  • This Burt is absolutely charming!

  • I saw this recently. It was amazing!!

  • I saw this a while ago. This was the highlight of the whole show.

  • I saw this live three years ago! and when ever someone brings up broadway or mary poppins I always bring up this scene because it was so magical

  • It's pretty cool how they don't make the wires easy to see

  • I'm not into Broadway, but I brought my wife and sons to see the show last month in NY. It 's quite impressive, but the theater seats aren't made for anyone over 6'1.

  • I'm sorry but I think old Walt would be horrified to see his masterpiece turned in this pile of drivel. It is dire

  • I want to go to broadway to see this.

    now.

  • It was good but I think the Bert and Mary in Australia are much better! They are more as the Characters should be!

  • @debteetess just saw it in Sydney last weekend and would completely agree!

  • amazing to watch live! specially when bert starts walking on the alls and the roof,!

  • as a huge fan of both the movie and the musical, i really suggest you see this live before you make any final judgments on the show. it is SO magical and exciting when you're sitting in the audience watching this happen in front of your eyes. seriously, see it. it's not meant to be watched as a youtube video.

  • I SAW THIS IT'S AMAZING!!!!

  • I think Australia has the best Mary Poppins. The others are fine, but Oz's is better.

  • 15 people can't step in time!

  • Saw it yesterday in nYC..absolutely fabulous. The video doesn't do it justice

  • Not nearly as fun as the movie scene.

  • This is the first time I have known of anything regarding the Mary Poppins musical. Now I want to go see it live!

  • This may just be my opinion, but I think the Australian cast was better c:

  • Dancing and singing while upside down! That is admirable. I can't even speak when I'm upside down.

  • Ugh, I just saw this show last night, a little bit more than obsessed!

  • Did anyone notice that there are a couple girl chimney sweeps?

  • seriously? Walking up the prescenium and singing upside down. Thats it! Can you say Tony?

  • I think the Dutch version is mutch better because there are the micheal actually shorter then the janes as should be but William Spaaij is amazing as Bert

en Noortje herlaar Or Sophie Are alsoo greatt !!!

  • I'm sorry but.... I wish it was closer to the "Step in Time" they had in the movie. :/

  • AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! THIS IS LIKE THE BEST NUMBER IN ALL OF HISTORY OF BROADWAY NUMBERS!!! I am a tap dancer myself so this just blows my mind! It was even better live!!!!!

  • Im not trying to be mean...but is it just me or does the girl playing jane have her mouth open the whole time?

  • @WhoIdBe And in complete contrast, the boy shows very minimal emotion during the whole thing.

  • Who plays Mary Poppins in this filming? I've seen two or three different actresses play Mary.

  • @KevKevAllen this is Laura Michelle Kelly

  • @kimmokim13 That's actually Ashley Brown.

  • They did such a good job on this for the Broadway production, but I agree with igottowatch. The movie version was a lot... 'messier' in a sense. They were having a grand old time, and everything was fast-paced and funny.

  • God what I would give for the entire musical to be filmed like this.

  • i tapped to this song in tap this year :D

  • That was quite epic...I'm just sayin'... =)

  • I could just imagine my friend, AJ Lease, from high school doing this number. He's a Broadway performer.

  • Wouldn't it be really cool to see Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke perform this song!? ( When they are younger of course.) I think these people are fabulous but i just think it would be cool to see the originals perform this song.

  • Im a 16 year old guy. and i went and saw this in detroit and it was awesome :)))

  • @idakid23 Haha, me too. I saw it on New Year's Eve. :D

  • 3:52 it's starting to get very "stomp" up in here

  • i'm going to see this in april with my vocal group, only the twelve of us are in the group, and we are all so excited! yay for mary poppinsss!

  • meh, it would be nice if you could actually see the people, you know, i mean with the lighting and all. guess they are trying to save electricity or something

this clip does not entice me to see the musical or even share it with my friend who wants to see the musical and loves tap dance

  • @abadhank i agree it does look rather dull. this is a blueray clip so it should be extra high quality. the lighting is way better than this in the actual show

  • @abadhank I think the most of the reason they don't add light onto the rest of the chimney sweeps is 1) because a good number of them are women, and they're trying to hide that to match the story, and 2) The chimney sweeps are one. They're not individuals in the story, they're one person, with one personality.

  • Kelsey is very good as Jane Banks, her facial expressions are great

  • I love it how the little girl (kelsy is it?) was smiling the entire time, it shows the true meaning of the song, and that is sometimes very hard to come by.

  • I saw this on broadway when i was in nyc and it was so amazing that it totally blew me away!! im so glad i can watch this video and rememberit. still, my favorite part has to be between 2:55 and 3:10!

  • imagine if the chimney sweeps of the 1800s could actually see this.... it'd be like toll booth operators today seeing a showstopping number about them.

  • Film Version > Broadway Version, nothing could ever top Dick Van Dyke.

  • the only thing i dont like about this one compared to dick van dykes version is that this one is much slower and it isnt as lively as in the movie

  • Admittingly, I have never seen the show live, but I do think that this version and the Disney version with Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke are both spectacular in their own ways. Both performances are totally top notch.

  • I don't why...I just love 2:04-2:12. :)

  • I love you subtle use of red in the leads costumes, makes them look stunning in the setting. The whole set reminds me of something Edward Gorey would of done.... What a fabulous number all together.

  • The music is better than the music in the movie!

  • is this what really happens on the musical that they are having in australia????

  • is this wat really happens on the musical that they are having in austeralia????

  • i gota callback for syd version!

  • im going for my audition for jane banks (the little girl) today ! yay wish me luck

  • Could anybody please tell me the lyrics ? :S

  • While we all secretly suspend our disbelief of stage magic like walking up walls and upside down, It seemed weird to me in an official Disney video that they didn't try to hide the mechanics at all. Usually it seems they don't feature lighting or camera angles that make it that obvious. Its still fun and I'm sure very cool live, I just expected a little more "magic."

  • @EgleTristanw , Her name is Kelsey Fowler

  • I WANT TO SEE THIS SO BAD!!!! AND I AM!!!!!! IM SEEING IT IN DETROIT IN DECEMBER!!!!! :D

  • I really enjoy watching this beautiful song and those extraordinary dancers.

Just wondering, but by the way, what's Jane's actress' name? I believe she did a great job and while watching this video I cannot get my eyes of her, not just because of her acting but because of her all appearance hereat.

  • @EgleTristanw In this video it would be Kelsey Fowler as Jane Banks and Zach Rand as Michael Banks.

  • I saw this musical on Broadway and it was AWESOME! being a tap dancer myself, this was for me the best part, especially when he tapped upside down. the whole musical was great though.

  • Best part of the musical, hands down. Supercalafragalisticexpialidocious was not all that bad either!

  • i saw it 2 years ago loved it was also Michael in the isreali production of it

    this video is the best

  • I have never seen someone dance on the ceiling like that before or up the wall! This is awesome but I still love the classic with Van Dyke!

  • @keyblader007 same here dude!

  • "oh yeah, i'm just gonna walk up a wall in the middle of a musical.

    totally normal."

    lmfao

    i want her shoes!!!!

    this made me smile :D

  • This was AMAZING to see in real life! lordy 8D

  • It seems like a party to me

  • @sockdancing88 i seen it while i was in chicago last year and a few months ago in new york. trust me, it it AMAZING!

  • Wy are often the best songs, singers and actors reserved to only be in the stage performance? Ido have to say, that there hasent been a REALY good musical in a quite a while. Yes, nice onces and a couple of songs that you remember, but the whole "musical movies" industry or line or what ever has gone way down hill in todays time...

  • I saw this show in Indianapolis a couple weeks ago, loved everything the dancing was so good, singing was great, was excited we were only 5 rows back too, my 4 year old niece went too her expression when Bert walked clear up the wall and then from the ceiling was priceless, absolutely loved it!!!

  • I Like it, but I feel it should have been faster like in the movie....the beat seemed so slow.... >_< but other than that, I liked it. :D

  • A fantastic party held on the rooftops of London! It's such a great song!! :-) They dancers is great!

  • Isn't Mary supposed to do the "impossible" things , not Bert ?

  • I just saw the aussie version of this..it was awesome

  • I remember seeing this show last February: I absolutely LOVED it!! There were points during the performance that I forgot to breathe, and I don't remember blinking until I was going to bed that night, lol! This wasn't just the movie on stage, or the books on stage; it is/was a rendition/retelling of Mary Poppins that can stand on its own as an incredible work of art!!

  • Amazing show would love to watch it over and over really enjoyed it and im a teenager!!

  • its so cute how Kelsey was smiling all the way through the dance XD

  • i saw this show last night in indianapolis! holy moly this is the best show i have ever seen!

  • Saw this on Broadway for the first time, and I got so freaked out when the sweeps in the background suddenly starting moving xD

  • The dutch version is better :D

No, I love this one too! :D

  • watching gavin lee dance upside down on the arch high above our heads is one of the most magical moments i've ever been fortunate enough to witness. i'm lucky to have experienced it twice. love you, gavin, and thank you for coming to ny!!

  • Best tap routine EVER!!!!

  • My friends are doing this number at our District Drama Competition and their Bert looks like a young Jim Carrey!

  • we're doing mary poppins broadway version for our show choir....it's amazing!!!

  • saw this in australia. Fan-frickin-tastic!

  • Took my mom and daughter thinking "safe bet"...boy was I surprised. AWESOME show. And I've seen pretty much everything on B'way. GO SEE IT!!!

  • Im not trying to start an argument here but I would like to put in my two cents worth.. What I don't like about this number is that the choreographers couldn't really catch the feeling of 1910. But it does look alright seeing it on stage. What I also don't like is how they put this whole extended story of the Sweeps being 'Guardians', but in the film they were just portrayed as being fun loving people having a party. It wasn't necessary to add in the extra story backgrounds etc.

  • @igottowatch They could have made it much cooler too. I'd have loved to see this as a stompish number.

  • @igottowatch I actually like it, then again, I'm a sucker for guardian angel stories because it has something sweet to it. I only see Bert as a guardian, not so much the other sweeps.

  • @igottowatch I thought the whole 'guardian'theme was rather sweet. But that's just me then I guess.

  • @igottowatch I know what you mean, it just don't jive with me

  • @igottowatch When you put a movie on Broadway, you have to add some stuff so people will pay 70 bucks to see the same story they've already seen a million times at home after paying 10 bucks once. Not to mention the extra hour of running time that you suddenly need to fill.

  • @igottowatch

The musical followed the book rather than the movie...that is why it is different

  • @igottowatch They were also portrayed that way in the broadway show. Idk why they chose to say it in this video lol

  • @igottowatch Well, to each their own opinion, I guess. Personally I find this quite lovely. The musical isn't just slavishly moved from screen to stage, but this is indeed a different version of the story with its own unique nuances.

  • @igottowatch I think you/re right. There's no need to transform such a great story into something religious. Only if you need to reach a certain audience but then, you may loose another.

  • I've seen this show 3 times in 2 different cities in the span of 1 month and can't wait to see it again! I have seen both Mary Poppins and Spring Awakening and I feel like Mary Poppins was robbed out of many Tony Awards. Granted the only time I've seen a dancer dance on the ceiling was in "Royal Wedding" and NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye" but doing it on the stage live every night should have been enough for Best Musical or at least Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for Mr. Gavin Lee.

  • I really loved the part when he starts walking on the side of the stage. Its pretty cool.

  • How did this show not win for best choreography?

  • I loved the sound of the taps! Gavin Lee was amazing!!! I met him and Ashley Brown afterwards and they were very sweet. Gavin handed my camera to Mary Poppins and said, "Ash, be a love and take our picture" She did :)

  • Cool number...Its genious! On such a small scene! I love the song!

  • I loved the sound of all the taps! Seeing this in person was just the most magical show. Gavin was astounding and so sweet afterwards!

  • I saw this last night, and it was absolutely amazing!

  • Seriously, this show looks awesome. I can't wait until the touring company comes near me!!!

  • This musical should of won a Tony for Best Choreography and Musical.

  • @TsWade2 I agree! I saw this show last night in columbus Ohio, During the Tony's I was hoping Spring Awakening would win everything BUT choreography I wanted this to win. Just watch this video. Spring Awakeing has NOTHING like that how it won over this i have no idea.

  • ill never forget seeing him walk on the ceiling :)

  • I will be seeing this in DC tomorrow, really looking forward to it

  • I nearly cried from the awesomeness of this scene when I saw this last night. It's a very special song. As for Bert tap dancing upside down on the ceiling...the most amazing thing ever.

  • lee gavin is amazing

  • @YourSarcasmHere its Gavin Lee

  • Matt Lee does an amazing job as bert in the australian version that i saw 2 days ago and especially in this scene where he had the whole audience in the palm of his hand =)

  • Matt Lee does an amazing job as bert in the australian version that i saw 2 days ago and especially in this scene where he had the whole audience in the palm of his hand =)

  • Mary Poppins The Musical is even better the second time around

  • wen he started walking up the walll i was like "WOOOAH!!! D:!" impressive dance number ^.^

  • Not as good as the movie :P but I still way to see the show!

  • that was so good

  • one of the best shows i have ever seen!!! LOVED IT!!

  • that must be so much fun! hanging upside down. :) :)

  • I love this song! It's so funny and good...

  • I love how the musical sheds light on the chimney sweeps and they are more characters then extras. I love the dance and even if I know how they do it it always astounds me that Bert walks on the walls and ceiling got to see the show with Laura Michelle Kelly and Christian Borle it was amazing!!!!

  • Love the musical over the movie all the way! I love how they shed more light on people like the chimney sweeps.

  • Saw this last Tuesday (6/8/10) and it was phenomenal. The video doesn't really do it justice.

  • saw this in new york and england also

    exactly the same version

    is this ashley brown?

  • Going to NYC to see this shoe in June! Can't wait!

  • I like the movie version better.

  • it was good, but it didn't have that fast paced enjoyment that the movie had

  • I saw Julie Andrews the other night at the 02 arena and in the interval I met Daniel Crossley who had played Bert on the UK tour of Mary Poppins. He had remembered me from when I met him and Caroline Sheen on the MP tour and he was so lovely. It was such a pleasure meeting him again as he is a darling!:)

  • I saw it in the Netherlands it was sooo amazing!! with William Spaaij and Noortje Herlaar!! :D I love this musical!!!

  • @elluntje I saw it in the Netherlands as well, but last sunday. And every applause Noortje, William and the rest got was MORE than deserved! I loved it! :D
