  • I just posted a vid on a blackstone gen. Amazing story about it, well worth a watch

  • Comment removed

  • are these the same engines that were used in br locomotives?

  • sadly all gone now! a mates dad worked there in the spares dept it was Mirlees Blackstone . Then in its last incarnation was ALSTOM / MAN ENGINES . Its a housing estate now.

  • Tell me, is the firm Mirrlees Bickeron & Day still in existence! If so where are they based?

  • worked on this type engine live in scottish borders nice engine yes your right we had the liners going all the time i did my aprenticship on blackstone 1984 fun on of the last

  • @Koseiko2008 They are based at Stockport England.

  • @SnowGui they were based at stockport,

they have since been bought out by bmw i think (not sure)

and there plant has been closed, and all of the staff have either been made redundant, or are about to

  • HI SNOWGUI do you still have generator and is it for sale if so pls email me on office@sheco.co.uk

  • Nice!

  • Must be the first one of these things that I have seen that didnt have oil pissing out every gasket and orifice on it.

  • I used to work at Mirrlees, and it was nice to see some of the ccompanies engines about ! thanks, and enjoy a superb engine ( got to say that, i probably helped to make it!)

  • As a former Mirrlees employee I was impressed both with the video clip and also the condition of the engine. This appears to be a JSS6 engine with 9.75 inch bore and fitted with turbocharger & intercooler. The engine cannot have been made later than 1967 when J production ceased so this unit is over 40 years old. The make will be either Mirrlees Bickeron & Day up to 1962 or Mirrlees National from 1962 onwards. Mirrlees Blackstone came along in 1969

  • thats a tiny engine! i work on the powerstations and we are in the middle of re-honing the liners. thats on a V16 KV Major...proper engine :D

  • Nice engine, looks well maintained.

But the missing insulation on the exhaust system would never have been aproved by the Lloyds register if it had been installed in a sea going vessel.

  • Yeah... but surely in the boat the exhaust was insulated.

  • sounds beautifull.... running like clockwork. Is this on a boat?

  • This engine was a auxiliary generator on a british transport boat. And now a auxiliary generator on a hospital. I took the video there during a maintenance electric shut down.

  • thats a big turbo!

  • sounds good
