In my opinion, conscription is not a good thing. Conscription lowers the morale of the soldiers. From what I've seen in countries with compulsory military service, enlistees can't wait to finish their service and get it over with. In countries with voluntary military service, they seem to be more comitted in their service.

Few years back while i was serving in the army, we had a joint exercise with US marine in urban warfare/fibua (fighting in built up areas) . And guess what, some assholes from USMC didnt execute the drill proper and the whole exercise it basically screwed..

If im not wrong.. this is the unit that was send to Iraq after the exercise with us. Hoho.. good luck yankees.
