I heard to take them out after they eat, drink, sleep, play, or train. Basically whenever there is a transition from activities, whenever there is a lull in activities, or when they are not totally wrapped up in an activity.
My dog is a beagle/ pitbull she is one year old and still goes to bathroom inside the house. We are going to try your method. But we have two other dogs who are 3 and 4. Should we let them out with the 1 year old or not. Where so confused because the other 2 came potty trained and we have no idea how to deal with this issue.
@singer17md You won't be letting her out, you will be going out with her -- that is a very important difference. I wouldn't let the other dogs out while you are training her, because she could easily get distracted by them and not think about going potty! Also, do be sure to confine her or have someone keeping a close eye on her in the house. Be patient, you will be undoing bad habits. It can take a while but the results are sure worth the work.
My Lab puppy is about 14 weeks old now, and we've totally been training the wrong way. I will stick to your method (and hopefully get him crate trained too) to see if he responds. I hope he is not too old to learn potty training! I fear we may have inadvertently taught him bad habits.
@Dagtark You may have taught him some bad habits but at 14 weeks he is still very flexible. It may just take a bit longer, but hey a lot of dogs that end up in shelters at a year or more are there because the are not housetrained. Yet many of them learn too, if they are lucky enough to go to a home with patient humans!
@mimi21308 You're welcome. It delights me how many people have seen and learned from this video, how many puppies have gotten just that much better of a start with their families!
i love my saussage mini dog hes a lovely puppy he lives in the house with us and hes like a baby the thing is he destroys everything and worst than all he pees everywere and poos everywhere last night i had enought and made him stay for the first time outside all night and all day he cryed all night it breaked my heart my kids hate me and my wife hates me...so i leted him came back inside im going to try to train him i hope im successful
@COCACOLAwithpizza Sounds like it's time for that baby to begin growing up! If I were you, I would find a local dog trainer to help your family get on the right track. You need to get him to accept a crate -- and if you just force him into one he will probably not like it, lure him into liking it with delicious treats. The get him on a regular schedule of being taken outside to pee and poop. Sorry I can't squeeze a whole dog training course into one comment, do visit my site! And bast wishes!

@yayayoyo1990 Shouting loudly means you are already a bit too late. I suggest you read the page that is given just below the video, as I explain a lot more their.
im confused!!! so every day you have your dog you have to take them out before and after everything!!!????that makes no sense.why would i want to get up every good damn day and go out side every idk 20 minutes!?!?
@origamifreak2 If you do this for a relatively short time, then you have a housetrained dog sooner. If you don't, you have to clean up messes for a longer time. And it isn't really every 20 minutes!
@XXloverbabeXX1 Beating a puppy teaches it that you are unreliable and a source of pain. This is not going to teach them anything about leaving your stuff alone. @XXloverbabeXX1 It's a matter of slowly, patiently working to improve their habits. Think of human babies. We don't expect them to be potty trained in anything like the amount of time that puppies catch on. And the same thing with any behavior problems. It takes patience, time, and love, to raise any baby, whether human or dog! Hope this helps. I know it can be very frustrating in the moment!
@hartworks7 and also i don't like them licking me but i kept scolding them and they would run away being scared so how can i stop them from licking me and they also kept on urining on my mattress and i would want to potty train them but... they just don't want to go to that place only one puppy knows how to go to the toilet himself without teaching
Hey guys i found REALLY easy way to train! (could use some asembley) get two boxes, one half as big as the other and tape them together (ON THE OUT SIDE REALLY TIGHT!) the box that is smaller will be the puppy's bed. the other will be its bath room, put some new paper down. and some cloth or bed down. connect them, but cutting a hole in the middle there by making it one big box. and it will work over night! i got this idea from the "Puppy potty apartment" thumbs up if it worked or your guna try
My 9-year-old daughter was dying for a puppy and we got her a Dachshund (6-week-old) for her birthday. I know the puppy was too young to be taken from her mother but the lady was trying to get rid of all the puppies and we love animals. My daughter was very excited the first couple days to care for the puppy. However, as the puppy cries at night my daughter became less motivated to care for the puppy. So I step in. What do you suggest I do to motivate my daughter in caring for the puppy.
@laniebcx This is a VERY natural response for kids. I suggest you do everything you can to help your daughter have fun with the puppy and bond with it. As for the responsibility parts, don't worry too much about them for now -- they will come more naturally as your daughter loves the puppy more and more! (Yep, that leaves you stepping in.) You can certainly have your daughter help with the potty training... have her watch this video, for one thing!
I need help!!! My shih tzu puppy is only 1 month old and she doesnt poop but we give her formula milk becase we still dont know when she should eat dog food!!! Help!!
@brunomarsinger If your puppy is only a month old, she is too young to be taken from her mother, so something unusual must have happened. Sounds to me like you should get her to a veterinarian ASAP! (And I don't say that often.) But not pooping is serious.
@hartworks7 i know she's too young but the owners of the mom said i dont want anymore of these dogs so he gave one to us. Its a good thing we live by a animal hospital(:
@brunomarsinger Do check with the vet about the not pooping or living by the place won't do you any good! And while you are there, ask about what you are feeding.
I need help! I have a yorkie and she's pees on napking but poops on floor or carpet. She's is still 4-5 month old. And she doesn't like dog treats, she eats only home food
@mrAndy45656 I thought I answered this right when you wrote but something happened yo my post. You will need to control where she is and watch her closely. As for treats, try very small pieces of carrot or apple. VERY small. My dogs love carrots!
Hello! I was wondering, what if the puppy is afraid of grass? My 7 week old Chihuahua pup is a rescue, and since her previous owner was a puppy miller (who should be shot IMO) she's not used to being outside =( When I set her on the grass she starts whining, crawls up my foot and sits on it. Should I just paper train her and try outdoor training later or just go ahead and try to get her used to being outside? She's already been through so much, I don't want to make her unhappy here too.
@SakiWatari Sorry this slipped past me for a couple of weeks! I would go easy with this little girl, just take it slow and be consistent. Choose a very simple method and work with her, very patiently, till she is really housetrained. This could take over a month easily.
In the meantime, you can gradually help her get used to going outside, without trying to housetrain her while there. Eventually she won't be so afraid of grass, and even later you do want her to be able to go potty outside!
@smoke10108 Smoke, until he is totally house-trained, you are way better off if you crate train him, so he can't pee on your bed or anywhere else you don't want him to. If you go to my site (url given above) there is a lot more info about crate training. There are a lot of reasons it is a good idea, though some dogs -- including one of my two -- hate it.
If he sleeps with you, he is not likely to pee on the bed as dogs like clean nests!
I will be gettin a Lab Puppy she will be 7 wks, will the fact she basically has been outside since she was born make it easier to potty train or will it make it harder to train? Also when is a good time to start going on walks with my puppy?
@2fast4u1991 It's not really possible to know in the abstract whether the being outside will help or hinder the potty training. 7 weeks is a great age to start, and do read the page that I link to, as it gives more details than I did in the video. ... As for going for walks, you can walk with her right away BUT since she will not have had all her shots at 7 weeks, there are questions of protecting her immune system which you could ask your vet about. Enjoy her!
@snoopynmaggie You can try starting her right away, and see what happens. It depends on how quickly her little body matures as well as how quickly she catches on to what you want. Have fun!
i had to put down my 13 year old chocolate labrador in november due to bad hips,i am picking up my 8 week old chocolate labrador next thursday, its been 13 years since i had a puppy,am sure am in for a lot of hard work haha, oh good video by the way :)
@watchvideosofme Every puppy is different in terms of how quickly they mature physically and also in terms of how quickly they begin to learn from you. But I would start out right away, but not necessarily expect much, just pay attn to what your puppy shows you about how ready he is! You can often teach a young puppy to sit without using the word sit, just by holding a piece of food over their head when they are standing, for example.
@LilMsCookieMonster That will depend on how quickly his physical system -- his "plumbing" -- matures, and this varies from breed to breed and also from one puppy to another. Try doing a little gentle training now and see if your puppy responds.
@LilMsCookieMonster Six weeks is still quite young so don't be surprised if he can't hold it at first. Use a crate to confine him through the night, or some other way to confine him, and also when nobody is home. BTW if he can stay with his mom till 8 weeks, that would be better for him. Be sure to read my page that I link to from youtube on this page, lots of details about potty training young puppies.
Hello I have a 10 month old yorkshire terrier. I have done most of the things you have suggested in this video, I believe my puppy knows when she has to go out but she is not understanding how to let me know. I take her out when she wakes up, shortly having a drink of water, and after eating. She has recently within the last 2 to 3 weeks she started to use the bathroom in her "crate". She has a crate just big enough for her to turn around but she doesnt seem to care that she is soiling her area
@GBabee62 Sounds good so far, you are underway. See my page that goes into more detail on potty training puppies, the link in on this page. Try tying her to your belt when you are home so you will be quicker to notice when she gets a little restless, at least in the daytime.
@slipknotsucks454 It's not always easy to guess at a puppy's emotions. It could have been that she was trying to mellow you out. Remember she is a baby still too. You might want to have a crate for her if this is a problem that continues.
@mieroku 3 weeks is too young for a puppy to be separated from its mother, so I hope you have the mom too. If you do, let mom and any littermates do most of the teaching for now. If you just have the puppy, try to arrange it so the puppy isn't alone. It will be very lonely if it is. As for potty training, such a young puppy is not going to be able physically to be housetrained yet. For now, lots of love is the most impt thing. Get help from a trainer if you can.
That can sure be a challenge but you just have to outwait them. Be sure you make it fun to go outside so they want to anyway. Try taking them out more often. And get help from a local dog trainer if you need it.
i gotta question. ive tried doin all that stuff but my puppies absolutely refuse to go outside. they will actually wait and hold it and go as soon as they hit carpet. what do i do about that?
@unheardistortion Crate your puppy if he/she doesn't go potty. Don't let it on your carpet or loose in the house until you know they have gone. Try again in 15 minutes.
i have a 2.5 beagle puppy and from the first time i got it i did everything you said about potty training, yet after a week the puppy still sometimes in the day pees and poops inside the house.how long does it take for the puppy to understand to potty outside the house?
@grothesque Every puppy is different, just as we humans are all different. Just control where the puppy is inside the house when you can. See the page I link to that goes into more detail than the video.
@hotgothgirl508 At 6 weeks, many young puppies don't have mature enough bodies to actually succeed in being housetrained, just like young human toddlers mostly don't. But you can start VERY gently, not in a demanding way at all, and the pup can begin learning what you want. Make it fun for both of you!
@FilmsinaBottle The webpage that I link to tells you a lot more, but basically, when you can't be watching her, have her crated (after teaching her to accept a crate) or with someone else watching her.
When she does try to go in the house, I'll stop her and lift her outside, but then once she gets outside she'll sit there or lie down. She' ll truly hold it!
@hartworks7 YES IT HAS HELP ME SO MUCH THANK YOU I AM GLAD THERES STILL NICE PERSONS THAT WILL TAKE THE TIME TO MAKE A VIDEO AND HELP.. GOD BLESS YOU THANKSS!!♥
@minivor No, that's an ideal time to start, but just expect there may be some accidents. Puppies vary in how early they have the physical ability to control their elimination. I once had an Australian Shepherd who was completely trained by 9 weeks, but that's a bit unusual.
I just bought a puppy female chihuahua for my son, she's 5 weeks old, should I start potty training her or is she to young? Because we bought her potty mats but she only pees and poops on them once in a while and mostly aims for the floor, especially right after I mop it :/ I want to take her outside but no leash or collar fit her right because her neck is extremely tiny, and I don't want her to run off, also I'm afraid that fleas will get on her from the stray cats that come into our yard:/
@kimaam Five weeks is still very young. I would start training her VERY gently and in your house seems fine for now. Her immune system and her elimination system may both be undeveloped, so expect plenty of accidents for a while. Get some enzymatic cleaner -- I've used Nature's Miracle but there are plenty of others too, what they do is combine with the urine especially, to cut the smell to the dog. As you may know, dogs can smell a lot better than we can! See my potty training page I link to.
@yingjaijai See the page I mention in the video description for more info. You can do the training in several ways... inside or out, litter box or not.. what really matters is that you do it!
training starts the second you enter your home. if you go about it like explained in the video (aka not getting angry with the pup when accidents happen and they will happen) potty training is not a stressful thing for your pup.
You can start creating habits right from the start, but it will depend on your pup's physical maturity, which varies a lot. See the long page I have on this topic on my we bsite, which is linked to up next to the video. -- Rosana
My pup keeps running around and wanting to play once outside. Then as soon as I bring her inside, she goes on the carpet! Ahwell, part of having an adorable puppy.
same here we have had our lab puppie only 2 days. best thing is has soon has the puppie wakes up take it outside it may play around for a bit. and after every meal. our lab ha soiled in lounge and kitchen hopefully it wont take long to train
I am about to get a dog and I live in massachusettes we live on a dirt road wher the neighbors dongs run around but never run away. and I'm worries our Borador will chew on our chairs and pee on the carpet since most of our house is carpeted.
Dear people who are posting all kinds of dog and puppy training questions.... please come visit my site... there is a link to it just to the side of this video! You can find lots of info there!
HI do you think that I should take my dogs who are a year old and they are chihuahuas and they are littermates do you think that I should get rid of one of them so It whould be easier? Oh and one more thing every time I take them outside to the yard should I put them on a leash?
I need help! My dog is about 4 months old and he is impossible to potty train :( We have no doggy door but when we take him outside he refuses to go but as soon as he gets inside he goes to the bathroom. Also we are gone from home during the day so what do we do if he needs to go? and he wont go when we take him for walks on the leash he wont go! We tried crate training but the crate scares him.. What do we do?
Get a puppy pen for your yard. Leave him in it (don't let him see you) for 10 minutes. Sometimes young dogs have trouble going when they are on a leash.
As for the crate, put him in it and don't talk to him when he's there, except to offer a firm "you're okay.' He may scream for a while but he'll settle down after a time and eventually not be afraid of the crate.
I hope I can get the hang of this soon, my puppy always goes inside and when we take him outside when we see signs of him needing to go, he just walks around and never goes. Sometimes we wait for a very long time.
KebyMilla, this can be so frustrating. Once you have a time when he goes outside, that has the potential to be breakthrough... or it may take several times.
If you can get him to go on an old towel or bathmat in the house, then take it outside -- without washing it -- where he will smell it the next times. His nose is way more powerful than ours, and that will tell him it is a place he can go.
me and my boyfriend just got a siberian husky puppy and at night he sleeps in my room and im teaching him to go on newspaper. hes doing very well with that. and during the day i teach him to go outside. after the 5th night he didnt go at all on the paper and just went outside. and if he makes a mistake i put his nose by it tell him no and put him outside. this works very well
it sounds like you are well on your way, but the step of putting his nose by it is not necessary. Dogs have much stronger senses of smell than we do, and he knows it's there. How would you like someone putting your nose by your output?
Enjoy your puppy! They are one of the most loving breeds!
We always sleep with the puppy in a crate in our bedroom and believe me a puppy who wants you to know it's awake will make a lot of noise! last time we had a young puppy, I kept shoes and a bathrobe right by the bed so I could stumble out into our fenced backyard while still half asleep.
You're very welcome. Do come visit my website to learn a lot more about training puppies and dogs. And you might like to volunteer at a shelter to help train some dogs. That can be emotionally hard, though, since some of the dogs have to die because they don't get homes.
i wouldnt hit him on the head. and if you want to use something besides your hand roll up a newspaper. this wont hurt him but makes a noise that lets him no its not okay. and if your going to give him tap id do it on him butt cuz that is where the mistake is coming from
Thanks,He has been peeing all over the floor and all i can do is say no,But he is sound asleep, when should i start teaching it cause i want to teach it but i also want him to get used to his new home
My dog was really nice to me at first, then she had her babies. We gave all of them away except one. & I play with the puppy that's left more than the mom. The mom bites me or scratches me when I sit on the floor to try to pet her. I don't know what's up! Can you help?
It could be a variety of things, but try sitting a little further away and letting her come to you. Try a treat, like a small bit of carrot or a tiny bit of meat or even a piece of her dry dog food, and you many be more interesting to her!
trust me, i have experienced the same things too many times. firstly, do not get angry. just try your best to stay calm with him. if u are calm around him, he should calm down. also keep rough, exciting play to a minimum so he does not get riled up. only give him affection when he is calm and not biting. when he does bite, the best thing that i have found, is to make a high pitched, startling sound like a yelp or "NO". if he stops, then keep petting him. if he nips, do it again and then just get
(part 2) up and leave him. this shows him that he cant play with you by mouthing you. if he bites really hard, then you can take him muzzle and hold it and tell him firmly "NO, BAD" (you don't have to be harsh or hurt him, you are just being like, hey im in charge here. it will not hurt or traumatize him) and get up and leave (or put him in a crate). at first, be a little tolerant with nipping, but as the days go on, slowly get to where even putting his mouth on you means no more play or fun!!
it probably cause she is excited and her bladder is full. my old dog did the same thing, his tail would go crazy and he would pee. it was very annoying. thankfully we trained him out of that habbit
are you still having the issue?? if you are i might be able to give you some advice :) trust me, i have dealt with the same thing. its annoying, right
well now my mom just keeps her in the cage during the day and after eats takes her outside... so basically my puppy LIVES in the cage now lol my mom got pissed about having to clean crap all day....

What do you suggest I do to motivate my daughter in caring for the puppy.
laniebcx 7 months ago
@laniebcx This is a VERY natural response for kids. I suggest you do everything you can to help your daughter have fun with the puppy and bond with it. As for the responsibility parts, don't worry too much about them for now -- they will come more naturally as your daughter loves the puppy more and more! (Yep, that leaves you stepping in.) You can certainly have your daughter help with the potty training... have her watch this video, for one thing!

I need help!!! My shih tzu puppy is only 1 month old and she doesnt poop but we give her formula milk becase we still dont know when she should eat dog food!!! Help!!
brunomarsinger 7 months ago
@brunomarsinger If your puppy is only a month old, she is too young to be taken from her mother, so something unusual must have happened. Sounds to me like you should get her to a veterinarian ASAP! (And I don't say that often.) But not pooping is serious.
hartworks7 7 months ago
@hartworks7 i know she's too young but the owners of the mom said i dont want anymore of these dogs so he gave one to us. Its a good thing we live by a animal hospital(:
brunomarsinger 7 months ago
@brunomarsinger Do check with the vet about the not pooping or living by the place won't do you any good! And while you are there, ask about what you are feeding.

i have a three month old husky puppy how do stop it from whining and barking throughout the night
MultiSexysandy 9 months ago
@MultiSexysandy It depends on where the puppy is sleeping. Could it sleep in a crate or sectioned off area in your bedroom? Is it lonely?
hartworks7 8 months ago
SakiWatari 9 months ago
@SakiWatari Sorry this slipped past me for a couple of weeks! I would go easy with this little girl, just take it slow and be consistent. Choose a very simple method and work with her, very patiently, till she is really housetrained. This could take over a month easily.
In the meantime, you can gradually help her get used to going outside, without trying to housetrain her while there. Eventually she won't be so afraid of grass, and even later you do want her to be able to go potty outside!
hartworks7 9 months ago
What if your sleeping? And he is already up? I live in apartment and we don't have a yard! I don't want him to pee on my bed
smoke10108 10 months ago

2fast4u1991 10 months ago
@2fast4u1991 It's not really possible to know in the abstract whether the being outside will help or hinder the potty training. 7 weeks is a great age to start, and do read the page that I link to, as it gives more details than I did in the video. ... As for going for walks, you can walk with her right away BUT since she will not have had all her shots at 7 weeks, there are questions of protecting her immune system which you could ask your vet about. Enjoy her!

snoopynmaggie 11 months ago
@snoopynmaggie You can try starting her right away, and see what happens. It depends on how quickly her little body matures as well as how quickly she catches on to what you want. Have fun!

im getting a golden retr. puppy so at what age should i start training him?
watchvideosofme 1 year ago
@watchvideosofme Every puppy is different in terms of how quickly they mature physically and also in terms of how quickly they begin to learn from you. But I would start out right away, but not necessarily expect much, just pay attn to what your puppy shows you about how ready he is! You can often teach a young puppy to sit without using the word sit, just by holding a piece of food over their head when they are standing, for example.
hartworks7 1 year ago
at what age can i start training him
LilMsCookieMonster 1 year ago
@LilMsCookieMonster That will depend on how quickly his physical system -- his "plumbing" -- matures, and this varies from breed to breed and also from one puppy to another. Try doing a little gentle training now and see if your puppy responds.
hartworks7 1 year ago
@hartworks7 oh ok is that im getting a 6 week old boxer
LilMsCookieMonster 1 year ago
@LilMsCookieMonster Six weeks is still quite young so don't be surprised if he can't hold it at first. Use a crate to confine him through the night, or some other way to confine him, and also when nobody is home. BTW if he can stay with his mom till 8 weeks, that would be better for him. Be sure to read my page that I link to from youtube on this page, lots of details about potty training young puppies.
hartworks7 1 year ago
Hello I have a 10 month old yorkshire terrier. I have done most of the things you have suggested in this video, I believe my puppy knows when she has to go out but she is not understanding how to let me know. I take her out when she wakes up, shortly having a drink of water, and after eating. She has recently within the last 2 to 3 weeks she started to use the bathroom in her "crate". She has a crate just big enough for her to turn around but she doesnt seem to care that she is soiling her area
GBabee62 1 year ago
@GBabee62 Sounds good so far, you are underway. See my page that goes into more detail on potty training puppies, the link in on this page. Try tying her to your belt when you are home so you will be quicker to notice when she gets a little restless, at least in the daytime.
hartworks7 1 year ago
thanks she pissed on my bed but i guess i won't yell at her no more.....
also after she pee'ed om my bed she started to lick my face like if she was trying to make me not yell at her is that normal?
slipknotsucks454 1 year ago
@slipknotsucks454 It's not always easy to guess at a puppy's emotions. It could have been that she was trying to mellow you out. Remember she is a baby still too. You might want to have a crate for her if this is a problem that continues.
hartworks7 1 year ago
my puppy is 3 weeks old what can i start to teach her?
mieroku 1 year ago
@mieroku 3 weeks is too young for a puppy to be separated from its mother, so I hope you have the mom too. If you do, let mom and any littermates do most of the teaching for now. If you just have the puppy, try to arrange it so the puppy isn't alone. It will be very lonely if it is. As for potty training, such a young puppy is not going to be able physically to be housetrained yet. For now, lots of love is the most impt thing. Get help from a trainer if you can.
hartworks7 1 year ago
That can sure be a challenge but you just have to outwait them. Be sure you make it fun to go outside so they want to anyway. Try taking them out more often. And get help from a local dog trainer if you need it.
hartworks7 1 year ago
i gotta question. ive tried doin all that stuff but my puppies absolutely refuse to go outside. they will actually wait and hold it and go as soon as they hit carpet. what do i do about that?

@unheardistortion Crate your puppy if he/she doesn't go potty. Don't let it on your carpet or loose in the house until you know they have gone. Try again in 15 minutes.

is a 6w lab too young or an i begin training?
hotgothgirl508 1 year ago
@hotgothgirl508 At 6 weeks, many young puppies don't have mature enough bodies to actually succeed in being housetrained, just like young human toddlers mostly don't. But you can start VERY gently, not in a demanding way at all, and the pup can begin learning what you want. Make it fun for both of you!

minivor 1 year ago
@minivor No, that's an ideal time to start, but just expect there may be some accidents. Puppies vary in how early they have the physical ability to control their elimination. I once had an Australian Shepherd who was completely trained by 9 weeks, but that's a bit unusual.
hartworks7 1 year ago

soccermm1 1 year ago
I just bought a puppy female chihuahua for my son, she's 5 weeks old, should I start potty training her or is she to young? Because we bought her potty mats but she only pees and poops on them once in a while and mostly aims for the floor, especially right after I mop it :/ I want to take her outside but no leash or collar fit her right because her neck is extremely tiny, and I don't want her to run off, also I'm afraid that fleas will get on her from the stray cats that come into our yard:/
kimaam 1 year ago
@kimaam Five weeks is still very young. I would start training her VERY gently and in your house seems fine for now. Her immune system and her elimination system may both be undeveloped, so expect plenty of accidents for a while. Get some enzymatic cleaner -- I've used Nature's Miracle but there are plenty of others too, what they do is combine with the urine especially, to cut the smell to the dog. As you may know, dogs can smell a lot better than we can! See my potty training page I link to.

training starts the second you enter your home. if you go about it like explained in the video (aka not getting angry with the pup when accidents happen and they will happen) potty training is not a stressful thing for your pup.

JulieHovonatch 2 years ago
Get a puppy pen for your yard. Leave him in it (don't let him see you) for 10 minutes. Sometimes young dogs have trouble going when they are on a leash.
As for the crate, put him in it and don't talk to him when he's there, except to offer a firm "you're okay.' He may scream for a while but he'll settle down after a time and eventually not be afraid of the crate.
Jinna50 2 years ago
I hope I can get the hang of this soon, my puppy always goes inside and when we take him outside when we see signs of him needing to go, he just walks around and never goes. Sometimes we wait for a very long time.
KebyMilla 2 years ago
KebyMilla, this can be so frustrating. Once you have a time when he goes outside, that has the potential to be breakthrough... or it may take several times.
If you can get him to go on an old towel or bathmat in the house, then take it outside -- without washing it -- where he will smell it the next times. His nose is way more powerful than ours, and that will tell him it is a place he can go.
hartworks7 2 years ago
Alright, hopefully it will come with patience. Thanks.
KebyMilla 2 years ago
me and my boyfriend just got a siberian husky puppy and at night he sleeps in my room and im teaching him to go on newspaper. hes doing very well with that. and during the day i teach him to go outside. after the 5th night he didnt go at all on the paper and just went outside. and if he makes a mistake i put his nose by it tell him no and put him outside. this works very well
damzlroost 2 years ago
it sounds like you are well on your way, but the step of putting his nose by it is not necessary. Dogs have much stronger senses of smell than we do, and he knows it's there. How would you like someone putting your nose by your output?
Enjoy your puppy! They are one of the most loving breeds!

countrygirl22046 2 years ago
trust me, i have experienced the same things too many times. firstly, do not get angry. just try your best to stay calm with him. if u are calm around him, he should calm down. also keep rough, exciting play to a minimum so he does not get riled up. only give him affection when he is calm and not biting. when he does bite, the best thing that i have found, is to make a high pitched, startling sound like a yelp or "NO". if he stops, then keep petting him. if he nips, do it again and then just get
lenalena111 2 years ago
(part 2) up and leave him. this shows him that he cant play with you by mouthing you. if he bites really hard, then you can take him muzzle and hold it and tell him firmly "NO, BAD" (you don't have to be harsh or hurt him, you are just being like, hey im in charge here. it will not hurt or traumatize him) and get up and leave (or put him in a crate). at first, be a little tolerant with nipping, but as the days go on, slowly get to where even putting his mouth on you means no more play or fun!!
