  • Back in the old days, blue 00 Si was the shit.

I'd love to have one as my DD

  • if i can get my stock 06 si to do mid 6, 0-60 theres no way, with more hp and more torque in this 2012 si, that it does a 7 sec 0-60

  • my second car was a chevy cavalier and it did better numbers than this... after a mobile one synthetic oil change(every three months), K&N, new performance headers, and forged pistons,(not much of upgrades but stil good enough) i was getin a good 6.0-6.5 to 0-60...

i passed the cavalier on to my bro, and he can leave behind, 2012 SI's, thats pretty sad...

  • goddamn that 00 si is fucking mint!!

  • Rather 2012 you look like a fucking poor in a 2000 lol

  • How about a 98 hatchback with a k20z1 instead :p

  • si 2000 all day

  • What does the 1ft rollout mean ...???

  • The thing that I dont understand is.............

How did they find a completely Stock Em1?

  • we went from first flight to space flight within 50 yrs... youre telling me we cant make the 'sports' version of a econo-car 'better' than it was 12yrs ago!.. if i was your boss youd all be fired!.. the 99-00 yrs were the last of the double-wishbone all around.. + the motors were small and made alot of power for their size..

  • his numbers are slow he skidded tires everytime.

  • I love hondas and I would never buy any other brand of car. However, I completely agree with this guy. The new hondas are all about fuel efficiency and a comfy interior. I miss the old honda feel; the raw power. Get rid of ivtec and go back to the b series. I honestly am disappointed that the new si doesnt have more hp. My prelude has 200hp and thats almost a decade older. Come on Honda lets make a 270+ hp si that destroys the kias, and hyundai's.

  • Agree 100% i have a 2008 honda civic SI and I drove the 2012 Honda civic SI.. And i have to say I was a bit disappointed.. I was thinking on trading in the 08 for the 12 and It just didn't feel right.. My 08 stock over all it's a more fun car to drive than the 12 stock.. I think if I can I may buy an old one like a 99 or 2000 and put some work in to that.. :)

  • Also note that the 2000 civic si is about 200 lbs lighter than the 2012

  • Braking distance still the same after 12 years of improvement+ABS

oh and only a sec faster in 1/4 mile with %50 increased displacement..

  • hondas look good befor mexicans get a hold of them.lol

  • @Tupples1 i agree and im mexican

  • after 12 years of development 0-60 and 1/4th mile have only improved by 1 second...

  • Those top comments are the first thing that was on my mind when I first saw this video. I like Civics but I just get pissed off when douchebags make them "fast and the furious" wannabe ricers...

  • no thanks and no thanks, 8th gen baby =)

  • Comment removed

  • Those cars used to be sooooo cool, until teenagers got a hold of 'em.

  • B16 all day

  • Very cool video. I'd like to see more of this kind of comparison.

  • even the Honda Civic SI is not meant to be a true sports car, I don't know why he is judging it that way.

  • awesome!

  • Honda should re-produce the older Si!!

  • I liked the 2000 SI I had one great car. The new one just lost its edge its too comfort oriented and it just doesn't have character like the old one. Its lines are too formal it just gets lost in the sea of new cars.

  • 2000 is the best

  • If they were both on the lot today, I would take the slower but sexier and meaner 2000 any day of the week hands down. It looks better and the vtec kick in is sex in my ears. This was the car when I graduated outa HS, this is what made me want Hondas forever. Where they went since the early 2000's with the Integra/Prelude/Civic si I have no idea. I dont even consider buying a Honda anymore, they do nothing for me. Id buy that blue one in a heart beat just cause for me, thats like my childhood!

  • @Acc0rd79 My thoughts exactly. I own a stock, mint condition 1999 Si with 73,000. I plan on keeping it stock and in great condition. I enjoy it every day! Save the EM1s!!!

  • Its pretty sad that 12 years of development only produced a 1 second faster 0-60 time

  • @svtman93 agreed, and it coast more even with inflation.

  • Not even that, probably. The 1999-2000 Si was supposed to do around 7.5 to sixty from what I could tell. Even then, The older model just looks like it's got some style, whereas the 2012 looks mundane as hell.

  • @svtman93 because if they made it faster, those who want faster performance won't buy the Accord or Acura models which are faster

U can't really go faster than 5-6 second 0-60 without having AWD with 300hp or like 500hp with RWD

  • @svtman93 Actually I would say that is quite a lot! Having an Si Honda Civic do 0-60 in 6,7s (with 1ft roll out) is I think quite impressive! I mean it doesn't get much better than 5,5s for FWD and the Si is within 1 second from that!

  • @svtman93 no, it's a honha civic not an evo or sti... it should not be faster than this.

  • @svtman93 There is no possible way for you to explain HOW it is sad that it is 1 second faster. Punk ass comment.

  • @svtman93 put them side by side to see the difference on how the 2012 pulls on the 2000 and tell me its sad... it might not feel as sporty as the old one but he said it himself. It makes better numbers.

  • @svtman93

Was about to post the same thing hahaha, I don't like the 2012 SI it feels MORE car indeed but i don't like the way it performs i like the 2011 SI more with the K20 engine not a lot of HP but feels like a small motorbike revving to 8K RPM.

With that all said.... I would not trade my WRX for anything LOL

  • @svtman93 Thats cause in 2000 was the fastest.

  • wouldnt the 2000 have lost a considerable amount of power?

  • wtf? eps in a perfor,ance car?

  • I like my 08 Eclipse, for similar reasons that he liked the 2000 Si. It's ...alive and in the case of my Eclipse, understeering, fighting for traction, making lots of noise and trying to kill you, and send you off the edge in what is essentially a 3400lb sedan with a makeover. But I love it. It's not the best or the fastest, but its fun. Just like he said, in different words really, "It's not the best car, but dam is it fun."

  • Civics sure have gotten ugly.

  • @phoenixm4 Agree, rather buy that new elantra coupe or veloster they just announced.

  • Hondas aren't flashy but the engineering is always solid and reputable.

  • i prefer the dsm eclipses myself 2.0L turbo. Weak gas mileage be damned.

  • sooooo...let me get this straight? a civic Si (top model civic) runs a quarter in 15.1....okay, now your gonna have to explain it to me again. How the fuck do you civic kids actually think your even remotely fast? ...rlly?

  • @GTO19020

In stock form this car is not fast and no one will try and say it is. But it is pretty amazing for a 1.6 L engine. Anyway, most of the "honda kids" put turbochargers or superchargers on these engines and thats when they get fast. These engines are a model of efficiency which is why so many people are attracted to Honda cars even though they may not be that fast. Its the fact that a car produces 160 HP from a 1.6 L engine. Or in cases like the Honda S2000, 240 HP from 2.0 L.

  • @GTO19020 I hope people don't think stock Civics are fast, just like I hope you work on your grammar and punctuation. Society is deteriorating! Hahaha just kidding. ;) Seriously though, that is pretty slow. I think the Civic has lost what it was that made it fun. Which is why I prefer the Mini Cooper and VW GTi lineups. Still, compared to many vehicles, it is a lot of fun to drive.

  • @accordv6er haha I'm an Engineer (grammar isnt our strong points) math, physics, and mechanics are more my forte'. and yeahhhh...shame and i know ppl say "just turbo it" but the drivetrain or engine was never designed for it and therefore it would significantly decrease the engine life and forfeit some of the efficiency.

  • @GTO19020 first turbo = efficiency. second you not an engineer ( lololol ) or you know what (efficiency) mean.

  • @marcorodamien lol i wouldnt expect a lowly youtube troll to know this, but unless and engine (forged and timed) is set up for a turbo it WILL decrease some of the efficiency. I AM an engineer and engines are designed from start to finish for specific purposes. A turbo mount being one of them. You are rlly so ignorant and stupid as the believe throwing a turbo on a Civic would increase you MPG? Stick to need for speed engine work and leave the real world to me.

  • @marcorodamien and yes I am aware of efficiency in the terms of power generation, but in the end an engine needs to be built for a turbo to actually get the benefits you read about in your magazines. Stay on the 360 bud.

  • @GTO19020 wow you suppose lot about me ! lol so i'l take couple of minute to understand you ( 360 ) but you talk abour game console ? just dont pretend your a engineer instead of saying anuthinh to stranger on the web and read other thing than your old americain car magasine

  • @marcorodamien lmao alright troll; dont believe me then go troll around my channel. Ive got better things to do besides convince a 12yr old of my professional qualifications.

  • i prefer toyota . better making longer lasting. plus racings over for me. need a good car to travel

  • give me that clean em1! lovely!! none of this " Im so jdm in my LEFT hand drive civic because it's low and on deep dish wheels"

  • the EM1 looks better than the SI

  • the 2012 is super ugly !

  • @SSamu5 yes sir, and piles of cheap shit too!

  • the 2012 is soooo UGLY

  • Was this a car review or a memory test? Please, next time do one test with both cars and then move on to the next test, now we have to sit and remember all the numbers to get any form of comparison!

  • what!!! I thought these were faster, guess my 25 year old completely stock mustang can beat one of these after all lol.

  • @ivan199120 and get 10 less mpg lol

  • @Ne0nLiteZ Oh yea good thing i dont care about mpg so it does not bother me unlike every broke civic owner complaining about how $30 to fill up their car is too much.

  • the 90"s were best..

  • Needs to be more riced out to give people something to bitch about lol.

  • Just give up honda.

  • Why not use the 2000 SIR?

  • @frasercorey because it's the same exact thing.

  • @Syn0203 just did some research and realized the U.S didn't have an SIR model, the U.S Si model is the same as the Canadian SIR, and the U.S dx model is equal to the Canadian Si model .... Didn't know that

  • @frasercorey yeah thats why model names are stupid, and we don't even get a type R....

  • @frasercorey its an american show the sir wasn't in the U.S. market

  • @omgfroobynoobs thats what i said... lol

  • all that 2000 Si needs is some HREs, coil overs, and a tune and its just about perfect. the 2012? needs a lot of work... honda you are starting to disappoint me...

  • A beautiful 2000 Civic Si with a teeny 1.6L engine and 160hp pushing just barely underneath that horribly designed 2012 2.4L 201hp thing. Oh Honda...what happened over the last decade? Tsk-Tsk...

  • dam there ugly cars

  • Honda has lost its mojo...

  • Am I the only one to think that the old Civic Si sounded WAY better than the new one??

  • Does anyone know how many 99-00 Si civics are left that aren't salvaged cause I cannot find a clean one for my life.

  • @Acdetomaso not sure where you looked but try california. lots of hondas here.

  • @Acdetomaso I found one but you have to be willing to put at least 8k on it a clean one without any problems depending on if he changed something in the car or not P.S I don't know if you can still find one now they were the most stealed cars i had luck finding mine.

  • v-tec baby........................ lol

  • 12 years later and it only improve 1 sec wow

  • How they found a original 2000 Si that is no molested is BEYOND me.

  • I freaking spun a rod bearing in my 2000 civic si last friday. Now im sad.

  • What does he mean exactly by "raw honesty" of the car? im wondering because im looking into gettting a 2000 si

  • @dEEjAY0229 It basically means that the steering actually presents you with what it should. For example: this imaginary car can do a .89G on the skidpad, but with this new electronic assisted steering, it only presents you with .56G. So, you'll have way less confidence to enter a corner. With the 00' SI, it's all there, and nothing is lost in the steering. You can feel everything it does. Electronically assisted steering basically kills the "fun" factor.

  • @Litestorm17 It doesn't have to though. Try out the outlander and outlander sport. It has electronic assists, but it is done so well that you would swear it hydraulics. So E-assist can be done well...just not by honda.

  • Eh, it's still numb(er) than cars without it. I think it helps that the Outlander(s) have an option for AWD, which always stiffens it up a bit. However, I have yet to drive a modern Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Honda, or Nissan that has E-Assist that I like.

  • @Litestorm17 Well mitsu is the only one that is good that I have run across so yeah, it is pretty dang rare...but it does prove that e-assist doesn't have to automatically mean numb dull steering. I do agree that pretty much every other car maker's e-assist is something I don't really like.

  • Double Wishbone Suspension baby! The new civics suck ass.

  • 2006-11 SI's are the best

  • holy crap, an unbastardized 2000 civic si.

  • "too refined" joke

  • How the did they find a 2000 Si that clean and unmolested?

  • @kimc53 it was reverted to stock, or pulled off a museum showroom floor haha

  • I think this sort of thinking applies to many modern cars, Theybe become fatter, heavier but only slightly more powerful.

A 96 corolla is nearly as fast as a new one :S

  • What a beautiful Electron Blue EM1 ! Shows how perfect the 6th Gen Si was!

  • how is he driving an 11 yea old civic that hard lol, yhats the first bone stock 2000 si i've seen since like 1999 lol.

  • I have to say that I totally agree with the critics that the newer si just doesn't live up to what the older si used to be.. The video narrator couldn't have said it any better.

  • @da1stegr true.. its true about what they said about the old dc2 type r and the new dc5 type r. it has the same meaning. in a way

  • bone stock 2000 so thats a first

  • these cars fucking suck slow, fwd, numb steering, torqueless, hard plastic interiors, rice boy following, shitty gearing, motor sounds like crap, vtec(shitty available powerband),and etc honda should stick to making non Si's and minivans

  • @dcin1 And you are a childish Fuckstain that should stick to playing Super Mario in your parents trailer. If you don't like Si's, don't watch the videos about Si's. Nobody here is interested in your Ignorant Trolling Contributions.

  • @johnniesi Oh, so only people who like a car and think it's great should watch a review of it? Even a negative review? Everybody has different opinions of different cars, and just because someone thinks the new Si is a let-down, that doesn't mean they're a childish fuckstain. Besides, with the kind of community the Civic Si has, it's hard to call someone childish. I mean, it really is the official car of 18-year-olds, underglow, and bodykits, even if they're great cars from the factory.

  • @dcin1 Why are you watching this??

  • i think they should find better drivers...

  • I'm gree with u

  • Where did you manage to find such a clean stock unmolested 2000 si????

  • Don't like the 2012 Si, its ugly. Just my opinion but I will keep my Eg SiR. With the introduction of the 4 door Type-r and spin offs like the Mugen RR I really liked the body style and the way the car sounds as it went through the gears. Wish Honda would bring some bad ass cars like that to America.

  • I owned an 8th Gen and now I own a 2012 Si Coupe and you can say what you want but the 2012 is faster 0-60, 1/4 mile, handles better and is better. Until you drive both you just don't understand the difference the Torque increase makes in this car. I love both but would never be happy going back to the 8th Gen Si. Just my opinion....Honda Rules!!!

  • @johnniesi I hear the SI is a torque monster.

  • i agree with the old man..

  • Worst drivers ever!!

  • please let get a better 10 gen si, please

  • Theyre making ugly ass cars these days.

  • 2000 looks better too

  • ill go with acura gsr lol

  • @razor281 DC2's are porkers, hell ALL Teggy's are porkers... and 20 crank HP isn't enough to compensate LOL

  • It took 12 years to make the car 1 second faster....

  • @nhbp8thgen lol

  • @nhbp8thgen lmaoo

  • @nhbp8thgen

    Welcome to North America !

  • @nhbp8thgen its also a lot bigger and heavier now

  • @nhbp8thgen 1 second is a lot of time in a 0 - 60

  • regardless:

    double wishbone suspension > McStruts

  • @nhbp8thgen lol what do you mean

  • civics suck balls but i'd take the em1 over ANY gen of civics out there

  • @redjones hahhahahaha...was gonna do that but then she fell in love and bought me coilovers! ;)

  • EM1 homieeee!!! Thought you knew! ;)

  • EM1 ALL DAY!!!!!

  • My girlfriend saod she does not like Si's.

    She is single now.

  • I have the EX trim level of the 6th generation. My sister has an 8th generation and WOW what a difference. I prefer the feel of my car because I actually FEEL more.

  • I don't care if its slower or less "luxurious". 6th gen EM1 ftw!

  • A better comparison would have been an 8th gen si and this em1

  • I think I am gonna buy a 2000 si

  • I own a 2000 civic si, driven plenty of the newer gen si models. Ill stick with my Em1. Its a drivers car. Fuck the new electronic bullshit. I like to drive, not pilot a computer aided vehicle.

  • @oiSUNSHINEo PLZ give it to me lol, ived always wanted an Si.. :/

  • I own a 2000 honda civic si and i feel like giving it up. i love it but i just hearing bad crap given to the si over the years (after the 2000 si). Also, someone told me that honda won't, for some reason, put enough torque power, making them slow.

  • the 2000 em1 was the best si ever made imo also the best looking this new si isnt true vtec only has vtec on the inyake side and the exhaust header is cast into the cylinder head

  • 1999-2000 Honda Civic's are the best! 6th Generation FTW!

  • 8th gen SI is THE BEST

  • 2000 are better handsdown fuck wat you say

  • 8th gens are hating because the 9th gens have way better engines

  • These EM chasis were great...

  • @cars2cars Blame it on the weight gain due to forever stricter safety standards. And this has been going on for the last 30 years.

  • the 00's claimed 15.8 in the 1/4.. i got mine do do 15.3 with a cold air intake and a $70 short throw shifter... not exactaly bragging numbers.. but pretty good for a 4 banger that got 27mpg around town.. i think that was the last year the civcs had double wishbone suspension on all 4 corners also...?... thats probally why they did so good at the tracks...

  • the 2000 si has over 120k miles and who knows how the previous owners have maintained it, i have a 1999 with under 26k miles and it still gets a 0-60 in barely over 7 seconds

  • THEY CHEATED. They launch the 00 Civic on lower RPM. You barely hear tire squeak. They launch the new Si with a burnout...I know its more tq but still. They probably launch the old one at 3k rpm or something...but I like what he end up saying, "its a better car, I'm not sure if its a better Honda Civic Si".

  • @KmAlbum well I'll be dammed I didn't know hondas could do burnouts, who knew 15 lb/ft of torque could do so much...haha

  • Old civic=better looking but pathetically slow, new civic=butt ugly n heavier, but better performance. Yet somehow a base mustang still bests them in handling by .08Gs, and destroys them in everything else....oh well

  • I have a 2000 Civic EX and compared to my sister's 2006 Civic it's way more fun.

  • Its SiR!

  • @markallayban not in America

  • @markallayban SIR was only made for canada.

  • the older the better, the b series had SOOO much potential, and without abs, stability control etc etc, its not a drivers car, more of a soccer mom car. i drive a crx si with manual steering and its arguably one of the best drivers cars out there, and most likely THE best fwd for the money. new cars are garbage, thats why at auto-x and race tracks they are still getting their butts kicked by 10-20 year old cars.

  • What a piece of shit ahaha 16 sec quarter mile? LOOOOL. I ran an 11.54 in my Stage 1 E55 on drag radials at Sacremento, what a piece of shit the civic is.

  • Sell the new Si with an automatic option (same engine/transmission as TSX) so we can get the next Type-R in USA.

  • Love how he said that last part!

  • interesting video, but correct me if im wrong but dosent the 2000 si have 160hp so its down atleast 40hp and lots of torque compared to that 2.4 in the 2012. All in all I think it compared well considering the age diffrence.

  • 2006-2011> all.

    -MARIO™

  • Honda Civic SI died in 00'. beyond that it's junk!!!!

  • 0:43 v-tech just kicked in yo!

  • old hondas look beter

  • Back in 2000, when Honda was actually still Honda and had that swag about them...now they are a total joke, getting their asses kicked by Hyundai...lol

  • @Marshmallowrex might belong to someone who works there

  • Thats man, civic 2000 Smile :) civic 2012 no smile :(

  • I love my civic SiR. I was thinking of selling it but I have never had an issue over the past 5 years of owning this car. It's great on gas but you can sure rip it pretty hard and then drive easy. I may just put some cash into to it and keep it for another five years. Why get something new when you can drive something that's the best. You cannot compare the body of the 2012 to the
