To join the debate I personally like Freddy more, due in part to the fact that I like that he has more of a personality. Plus in general I just like his films more (for the most part). While the FRIDAY films are fun to watch I just feel that the NIGHTMARE films have more creativity and substance to them. Still, Kane Hodder and Jason himself are still great horror legends in their own rights.

@chicarelli1983 - It was cheaper to hire a local stuntman, and Kane Hodder would often have creative differences with the director and producers of past Friday the 13th films, and New Line didn't need to deal with that.

In my humble opinion - Who played Jason never mattered much. An unknown actor gives Jason more mystic, and Kane Hodder became too famous for a while. I personally am glad we had a new Jason. I didn't enjoy Kane's heavy breathing or growling. I prefer a shark-like Jason.
