There was a really interesting 1998 documentary about Helen from the National Film Board (NFB) of Canada entitled "Desperately Seeking Helen." Has anyone seen this? It is unfortunately not available from the NFB website. Which documentary is this from?
Muqabala hamse na karo, muqabala humse na karo, hum tumhe apni rang me rang daalenge , ek hi pal mein. I think it is from the movie - pronce with shammi kapoor and vyjantimala.
This is some skewed info. Vyjayanthimala was in more demand because she could both act and dance. Helen was only a dancer and appeared sporatically in dance sequences. He was making Helen out to be the #1 star when she wasn't.
Helen is half Burmese.Salman Khan's step mother.SHe made millions but her 1st boyfriend cheated her.Salman's father Salim Khan who was in Teesri Manzil supported her.Without Helen Indian cinema would be colorless....
What I love most about Helen-her cute, adorable smile, her crazy dancing, and the way she can wear things that would look horribly sleazy on other people, but they just look darling on her.
haha lovely, to hear that sullen and bored Englishman talking over some great Helen-scenes! That was some good yoga she was dong there too. I'd love to see more of this!
I first saw 'Helen, Queen of the Nautch Girls' on TV in the UK back in the early 1970s - I was 14 years old and I remember being completely blown away by it. I have been in love with Bollywood ever since ! Helen is a goddess ! I always wanted to see this programme again so if you know where I can get a copy of it, please let me know (especially as I only got to see it on a tiny black and white television first time round !)
such beautiful costumes and set!

You're thinking of another actress, Nadira, who was a "Baghdadi" Jew as they are known in Mumbai.

Does anyone know what film the dancing scene is from? Or was it shot just for this documentary? Perfectly shows east meeting west.

i love this song as well! Vyaja(thingy) is so beautiful in a classic style, and Helen has such a fun, contemporary style.

Western bias can be seen here. The commentator has no idea what he is talking about. I have yet to see a bollywood movie that ran for 4 hours!
