A seal sheds its white coat after the first 2 weeks. It's a gradual process, though as the seal's fur is in that "molting" stage and they are then referred to as ragged jackets. There are actually 6 developmental stages that a seal must reach before they are full-fledged adults (dark harps.) The spotted grey coat they have when their white fur has completely molted categorizes them as beaters which, according to the HSUS, is still an infant stage. I once thought that beaters were adults as well.

Depends on your interpretation of "babies". It's technically illegal to kill newborns, but after about 2 weeks they're fair game. They aren't killing the adults, only the pups which are a few weeks to a few months old. I consider a 2-week old animal a baby, sealers don't.

It's illegal in Canada to kill white coats. Yes the way they kill them is terrible, but there are literally THOUSANDS of seals in Canada, and if their population gets too high, there isn't enough fish to go around. They end up starving and that is a slow and painful death.
What about veal? Baby cows being tied down so they can't walk so their meat gets nice and tender. How many baby cows have died this year hmmm?

This is like a sledgehammer and when the seal is hit with this heavy tool it is killed instantly. I hunt seals myself from time to time in Northern Norway. I personally use a rifle but I dont condemn the use of hakapik. The hook is only used to drag the seal AFTER its dead. Its amazing how so many by into the propagande from SS.

I can't see a more humane way of doing it... should we wrestle with them in the snow instead? Give them a slow death with poison and waste the meat? There are in fact too many seals, they are eating all the fish because not enough of them are harvested .I love seal meat, it is delicious and very very healthy. Sealskin is excellent material for essential clothing.

A role of importance??? they are too many and they impact the fish stock within the entire St-Lawrence Gulf. So many now that we see them coming upstream in our best salmon river in New-Brunswick to eat salmon. I'm looking to get my permit to shoot them, so I will do my part to control this nuisance species. Continue to encourage those animal society so Paul McCartney and Brigitte Bardot will continue to have free trip to Canada! Send your money to Haiti, save life instead of saving seals!!!

Seal fur is one of the best quality, most sustainable and ecological material on earth and it is an oil free processed material. It is also abundant and the hunt help to control an overpopulated population. If you prefer to wear a petrolium based coat it is your choice. the hunting of white coats are illegal in canada, the footage is old or from another country same with the coats they banned the hunting of the white coats in low 70's or high 1995 some ware in their russia and green land alos hunt the seals

A seal sheds its white coat after the first 2 weeks. It's a gradual process, though as the seal's fur is in that "molting" stage and they are then referred to as ragged jackets. There are actually 6 developmental stages that a seal must reach before they are full-fledged adults (dark harps.) The spotted grey coat they have when their white fur has completely molted categorizes them as beaters which, according to the HSUS, is still an infant stage. I once thought that beaters were adults as well.

Depends on your interpretation of "babies". It's technically illegal to kill newborns, but after about 2 weeks they're fair game. They aren't killing the adults, only the pups which are a few weeks to a few months old. I consider a 2-week old animal a baby, sealers don't.
