  • signature of the times...love it!!!

  • @hsp100. You have no idea how much I appreciate this upload. THANK YOU!!!

  • when i hear this song im reminded of my childhood..riding in the backseat of a car and hearing this on the radio..good music..good feelings..

  • True talent and quality, unlike a lot of these people today. Nicki MInaj isn't fit to tie Stephanie Mills' or Anita Baker's shoes.

  • @4tun1 that nicki chick or whoever is so far out of their league..her name doesnt even belong in the same sentence as stephanie or anita..

  • la mejor que voz tan espectacular siempre stephanie ritmo y sentimiento me encanta charlyguero....

  • This is the best song Stephanie Mills ever recorded; bar none.

  • @saratogaken I agree her vocals are like dark chocolate!

  • Radio Brought Me Here :D

  • Great Great SONG. This Woman Can SING!! LOVE LOVE This ONE Ya'll.

  • Let me in, yes this is the SHIT, she kills this motherfucker, and yes the bassist destroys! and yes Cherly Lynn and Stephanie Mills are compatible, almost the two most comparable artist in ablity that you can argue, but this aint bout no Cherly Lynn, this is all Stephanie Mills at her sultriest, funkiest, sassiest, even Chaka Khan couldn't have fanessed this track the way this girl eats this this up! Proberly her best vocal exercise, at least her most playful.

  • @sweetnessnbk, I've lost 2 myself....lol. I used to play this record on my Fisher Price record player....

  • I miss soulful music like this!

  • Ive already lost 2 pounds chair dancing at work to this tune!!! I love it!!! lol

  • beautiful song

  • Wow she was my sexy baby

  • The bassist killed it on this jam! 1979 was my last year/summer in New York, joined the Navy. Sold all my vinyl (HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!) and equipment for $200!

  • @BruklynG the bass line is nice check out the bass line on Teena Maries It Must Be Magic he killed it

  • My junior year of HS...listening to this song in the blazing heated California Summer going to my first part time job...made some money for tuition, books...and of course vinyl for my crates...LOL!

  • Stephanie Mills..........One of the great songstress' next to Cheryl Lynn & Chaka Kahn. Much Respect.

  • @interestingtheory414 are you seriously comparing a voice like Stephanie Mills to a Cheryl Lynn?

  • All I can say is "THANK YOU STEPHANIE"

  • A cut from back in the day. Simply awesome!!!!!

  • JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!

  • she also song this track with dmx whatcha goin to do when im nothin

  • The extended version is so rare. Thank you for this!

  • @citizen0430 several versions were made. i wish they were all released on one CD. this song is so heaven.****

  • @citizen0430

Back in the day, we called them "long play's" (Get it LP's?). LOL!!!!

I love 12" mixes like this because they showcase the instrumentation

and you're right about this version being rare. I've only seen this version

on imports that cost no less than $30.00 brand new.

  • Love this song, takes me bsck in the days!

  • I was born in 1979 and this is what my house sounded like. Stephanie Mills is in my top 10 female vocalists Pattie Labelle Aretha Franklin Shirley Murdock Deniece Williams Chaka Khan Whitney Houston Miki Howard Phylis Hyman Alicia Meyers Angela Bofill
  • I was born in 1979 and was named after her!! LOL

  • Love the long version. Sing it Stephanie.

  • i love stephanie great year 1979 just getting ready for high school. Hate to stop hearing great music stop playing.

  • Banging beat, gorgeous vocals! Stephanie is awesome!

  • love this song!!!!!

  • how could have had him and let him go lord i wish i was you stephanie.

  • she had to be talking about michael when she was singing this song because everybody is crazy about his smile.

  • @laureathea So true!! :)

  • @laureathea ... My thoughts exactly. I kinda felt like she was talking about Michael too. This song is a jam! I still listen to this. Our house was filled with hits like this growing up in the 70s & 80s.

  • went to the same church as she did in brooklyn, new york and really became good friends with stephanie but as we got older our interests changed, she went into the music biz and i went into te air force i brought her albums and played them faithfully i am truly proud to have known such a talented person....: )

  • i was 7 or 8 back then

  • This song makes the lil man in my soul break dance!!! Thanks Steph!!

  • Is MILLS pronounced like MILES? It's just a curiosity, I'm not a native speaker of English. GILBERTO SAUGEN - BRASIL

  • @gsaugen no. it

  • @gsaugen no. its said like mills.

  • @sweetnessnbk In Portuguese we have some difficulty in pronouncing some proper names, for there are no rules. For instance, as a teenager (I was just starting to learn English then) I thought DYLAN (in the name of the the rock star BOB DYLAN) was pronounced DIE-LAN !

  • @gsaugen No, it's not pronounced MILES.....it's MILLS.

  • Comment removed

  • @gsaugen Pues Gilberto... hermano....it is pronounced ... mills.... like hills, pills..etc.

  • As long as she still can sing (which she can) she needs to release new material. Classics are amazing, but we need her voice now.

  • @kristineurie44 I always confuse this song with "Watcha gonna do for me" by Chaka Khan. Thought I was the only one. Both are amazing.

  • I love how the drums goes "mm-ch-mm-ch-mm-ch..." when she sings the chorus. lol

  • ALL OF STEPHANIE MILLS SONGS (WHICH BY THE WAY I LOVE) REMINDS ME OF MY LAST LOVE....RIP STEPHANIE....

  • i was a big fan of her songs when i was little... never knew she was such a looker, especially with the short hair.

  • Talented lady has been overlooked pure legend from brooklyn.

  • UUUUUUUUUUUUUU-NO

  • I luv how she starts th track with Ooooo.... =P

  • grew up on this song................damn what happened to good music like this

  • This never gets old...just the best mix of vocals by our Stephanie and arrangments...thank you Reggie Lucas and James Mtume!!

  • ... The string arrangement really highlights this song!

  • Stephanie was the it girl for me back in the day. Wow! She can sing.

  • A really lovely and soulful dance classic from Stephanie Mills. One of her best.

  • Great song...shut up and dance.....dont remember hearing this back in the day...what a shame I found her stuff so late in life.....

  • does anybody else think this and what are you going to do for me by chaka khan sound similar?

  • @kristineurie44 Absolutely! I had the same impression. Both are great tracks. You got a keen ear. Are you a DJ? I'm not but I'm a music fiend nonetheless. LOL!

  • @pluggedin2u haha no im no DJ I just listen to both songs enough to find similarity. The beats are very similar... I feel the same way with Boogie Nights by Heatwave and Michael Jackson's Off The Wall (song).

  • @kristineurie44 That is no mistake. It is Rod Temperton ( I'm sure you heard of him) who worked with both artists among many others.Again you have a keen ear.

  • This song takes me back to when I fell in love for the first time and I asked her, "What'cha gonna do with my lovin'?" GREAT music, GREAT memories....I wish they made music like this again!

  • @Dancer810 what did she say? :)

  • @gayle2020 She said, "Well, kiss me and you'll find out." From that point on we were together for six years. You never forget your first love, and mine truly impacted my life. :-)

  • @Dancer810 awww that is so sweet. Well this song definitely has great memories and heart felt emotions for you..............

  • .fantistic singer. nightmare of a woman.

  • @TheCounslor Why do you say that..........what she do ?

  • @clavical1 terrible person to work with.

  • love this...i was 8 yrs old in 1979. Its the soundtrack of my childhood. :-)

  • @PaulaDDS me too

  • @PaulaDDS ....Yes indeed Paula....I couldn't agree more.....No doubt..

  • @PaulaDDS This song hit when I was between my junior and senior years of high school. The summer of 79. I will always relate this song to that time in my life. I have so many good memories because of this tune. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I understand what you mean by "the soundtrack" of your life. This song is one of many for me. Thank you for this posting.

  • @PaulaDDS So was I......same age. My dad used to jam to all of these as i grew up

  • @PaulaDDS So was I......same age. My dad used to jam to all of these as i grew up

  • @PaulaDDS I was 7 yrs old, Great memories growing up in Brooklyn.

  • @PaulaDDS me too i was born in 1971 wonderful memories

  • Summer 1979.

  • Stephanie, although I love this cut time to drop some new music dear!

  • @eyesley Respect a classic. Its the foundation. if she never "drops" another enjoy the love that was given.

  • @greggiemoore For your info, I do respect it. Love the jam. Takes me back to my high school days. Just would love to hear some new music from Ms. Mills 'cause these young chicks can't hold a stick to her....and from I am hearing on the grapevine, she is working on something.

  • @eyesley

    It's coming! :)

  • Mighty, mighty Mtume & Lucas!

  • They can house-it-up all they want to...and I do love some of those versions 'cause I'm a true House Head. But this classic arrangement (Mtume's best) is still the real deal for me!!! You go little Stephanie!

  • I LOVE THIS VERSION STEPHANIE ISA PHENOM TO BE SUCH A SMALL LADY. THIS TRACK IS BOTH SOULFUL AND FUNKY. THIS WHAT REAL MUSIC IS SUPPOSED TO SOUND LIKE. TY FOR POSTING THIS VERSION.

  • @mzj88 this hit puts me to heaven. such a beautiful hit from 1979. there are many other longer versions. i hope all of them be released on a single CD.
