@Wellwellwellwell1 Yea used to get off watching F-18s at night hitting full military after catching the wire but after so many landings even that becomes ordinary.
@Wellwellwellwell1 This incident was far from the pilot's fault, he pushed the throttle the way he was supposed to, but the arrestor cable slowed the plane down dramatically before it snapped. There was little he could do to save the plane.
I understand this rope breaks, the pilots when landing on an aircraft carrier include afterburner in case the hook is not hooked up the cable, but this was the cause of the accident afterburner.
я так понял это трос порвался, пилоты при посадке на авианосец включают форсаж на случай если гак не зацепит трос, но тут форсаж был причиной аварии. А самолету жопа да?
Hahaha, i am not laughing that the plane went in the water. If this had been a US carrier you would have heard some kinda siren and people running across the deck.
But these guys are like, "it happens. Resume as soon as the pilot is retrieved."
Fast-thinking pilot there! The U. S. Navy and Marine Corps lose a few tactical jets each year to failures of the jets' arresting hooks and/or the cross-deck pendants on the carriers, and this Russian naval aviator acted just as our Zoomies would have in the same fix. ;-)
@hellcatjoe It is not due to the trust! It is a catapult bridle attached to the aircraft and the catapult shuttle. The Su-33 doesn't have a launchbar on the front gear if you look closer :)
@juju57380 Not so. The second aircraft is a bolter - note that its tailhook is down! Also, the Admiral Kuznetsov doesn't have catapults. It uses the STOBAR system - Short Take-Off But Arrested Recovery - using a ski-jump.
@hellcatjoe It's the jetstream punching on water surface. A supersonic jet flying close to the water woult "produce" 2 nice waterwalls. Some bigger planes like the Su-24 or F-111 would cause inner organs to explode if they flew directly over a person at very low altitude with afterburners by their jet blast.
@Xunstar OK, so I take that back, I'm not impressed! If the ship knew ther was n o wire on deck why in the heck would they attempt a landing? Three options there...rig the barricade, bingo to the beach or rig another wire!
expensive mistake.

And that's why you engage afterburners after landing...

@Wyvern0110 Yeah, I suppose you're correct.

wouldn't want to be the first one to land after that guy.

Just wondering what hits the water at 0:16 ?
PrivateCustard 10 months ago
@PrivateCustard it could be the exhaust hitting the water as it pulls up
Dki101 9 months ago
@Dki101 It is probably some type of hold-down bar or bridle attachment for the catapult shuttle.

@PrivateCustard: It was the turd that came out of the last guy's ass finally hitting the water.

whats the splash in the water, underneath the air craft that gets airborne at 0:15?
hellcatjoe 1 year ago
@hellcatjoe its water displacement by the thrust out of the back of the jet

@00andJoe STOBAR = automatic weight restrictions on takeoff
Ski-jump was a better idea for the British with their Harriers

The wire almost holds....then breaks so even with full power its time to do a skydive and a swim.

@gtc1961 only 1 wire broke, there are 4 wires on all carriers, also, they can replace a cable in less than twenty minutes.
